The Cross Made The Difference for me

Over 50 years ago I received this gift, a hand crocheted cross. I have been blessed in life with many, many precious gifts.

Yet, this cross, made and given by my Mother is the most cherished. She taught me and the Truth remains, the Cross has made the difference for me.

  1. What beautiful needlework in the cross your mother made for you, Sara! Looking at it made me think your mother must have woven in many prayers into her intricate work. And to see the photo of it laying on the Bible verses surely speaks of the legacy she left you.

When I looked at it, read what you wrote and listened to the Gaither song, I thought what a wonderful inheritance she left for you. It reminded me of this scripture from I Peter 1:3-5: “Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.”

    1. “When Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, “he sat down at the right hand of God,” and since then has been waiting “until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet.” For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”
      —Hebrews 10:12-14 (NRSVUE)

    2. The footnotes for 1 Peter 1: 3-5 from the NLT says: “ do you need encouragement? Peter’s words, offer joy, and hope, in times of trouble, and he bases his confidence on what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. We live with the wonderful expectation of eternal life (1:3). Our hope is not only for the future; eternal life begins when we trust Christ and join God’s family. God will help us remain true to our faith through whatever difficult times we must face. The ‘last day’ is the judgement day of Christ described in Romans 14:10 and Revelation 20:11-15. No matter what trials or persecution you may face, your soul cannot be harmed if you have accepted Christ’s gift of salvation. You will receive the promised rewards.”

  2. The footnotes for Hebrews 10:14 from the NLT says: “We have been made perfect, yet we are being made holy. Through his death and resurrection, Christ, once for all, made his believers perfect in God’s sight. At the same time, he is making them holy (progressively cleansed and set apart for his special use) In their daily pilgrimage here. We should not be surprised, ashamed, or shocked that we still need to grow. God is not finished with us. We can encourage this growth process by deliberately applying Scripture to all areas of our life, by accepting the discipline and guidance Christ provides, and giving him control of our desires and goals.” Love the crocheted cross in the above picture, reminds me of my grandmother. She crocheted also.🥰

    1. Tammy, only imagine the thoughts, prayers and often tears as these precious saints of God crocheted with the fine thread and delicate needles to bring forth a visual of a cross, flower and other meaningful things. So often we knew their heart would overflow with love and hope for their families, friends and others in far away lands knowing the Cross would make the differences in their lives and others.

Beautiful scriptures, footnotes and visual reminding us as Believers in God, the Father, Jesus, the crucified Son and the Holy Spirit to make sure we have oil in our lamps!

      A Light!

      1. Sara, I can only imagine “ the thoughts, prayers and often tears” these ladies must have entertained. 🙏🩷🩷
