woman Does ‘Mouth-To-Beak’ to Save Chicken

“Well being the nurse I am I decided to give the chicken mouth-to-beck (just kidding). Anyway the chick died. My sons and I named it APRIL FRESH and buried it in the field.” Chickenfarmer (see article on Chicken Farming)

Dear Chickenfarmer: Just wanted to update you on the latest poultry emergency care. I know you are in your finals of nursing school and need to find out all the newest lifesaving techniques available.

“Morris, a retired nurse, said she hadn’t had any practice with CPR in years, but that she was interested to see if she “still had it.”

“I breathed into its beak…..” Would you like to know if it works…see news article “Woman Does “Mouth-to-beak’ to Save Chicken.

  1. You know this story reminds me of when Needles and I were hatching our chickens for the science project. We had one chicken come out of it’s egg alive, but it stopped breathing in my hands. I didn’t feel a pulse so I began chest compressions and I sorta gave mouth to beak. O.K. I blew air in the little chick’s direction. I just couldn’t bring myself to actually put my mouth on the little chick’s beak. The only chicken I want to put in my mouth is baked, fried or grilled. Well, Needles looked at me and asked me what I was doing. It’s funny to me that she has been a nurse for fourteen years and she hadn’t ever seen anyone give CPR to a chicken. That’s amazing to me. I really enjoyed this story and I am thankful that the woman that gave mouth to beak was more successful than I was. I wish I had her number. I think after we do our cow milking class, maybe we could have a class on the proper way to give CPR to a chicken. Of course, for a baby chick we’d have to give five compressions and one breath. For an adult hen or rooster we have to give 15 compressions and 2 breathes. I’ll try to get more information about chicken CPR and I will let you know what I find out. Maybe Jersey has some information on chicken CPR.

    1. WELL, AS A MATTER OF FACT I DO HAVE SOME INFORMATION ON THIS SUBJECT. THIS SHOULD NOT BE DONE AT HOME, HAVEN’T YOU WATCH TV. IT SHOULD ONLY BE PREFORMED BY A CERTIFIED CHICKEN RESCUER. IN ORDER FOR THIS TO BE SUCCESSFULL YOU MUST FIRST BE DRESSED LIKE A CHICKEN. YOU MUST ATTEND A 6 WEEK CORSE ON CLUCKING LIKE A CHICKEN, (YOU MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE CHICK). IN ORDER FOR YOU TO MAKE THE PERFECT SEEL AROUND THE BEAK YOU NEED TO PURCHASE A BEAK OF YOUR OWN. THIS INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND AT YOUR LOCAL CHICKEN FEED AND SEED. THEY WILL HAVE THE REST OF THE INFORMATIONAL PACKET YOU WILL NEED TO BECOME A SUCCESSFULL CHICKEN RESCUER. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
