“It’s clean sheet day,” echoes my Mom from my memory banks. My Mom would
carefully hang the sheets one by one on the clothesline located close by
our rural white, shingled farmhouse. The post, which held the lines
looked, liked a row of white crosses holding up their prized possessions.
Mom especially loved the wind to blow at the same time as the sheets were
being hung as the wind would soften and unwrinkled the sheets. The sun
would kiss the sheets baking in its rays until a sweet fragrance emanated,
which was deliciously savored by the person resting from their day’s
journey.
I am reminded that in my own spiritual life that it is a joy to have a
clean sheet day. With all the talk about aromatherapy, this kind is the
most desirous. Once we have taken all our sins to God, holding nothing
back, God washes them all away. Just like sheets, the dirt and grim of our
souls are washed away. God then wraps us with His warm rays of forgiveness
and newness. With God’s washing away of our sins after confessing or
pointing them out to Him, we begin to see God in everything. It’s as if we
have been birthed again and see the world through different eyes. As a
child we can all remember the freshness of a new day and the excitement
about life. Well God does that for us with the winds of the Holy Spirit
whipping in and through us. This is God’s way of touching the heart. His
word is opened to us again in a fresh way making it literally jump off the
page. The word becomes so personal, just then we have received a personal
hug from God as we can almost hear him say, “This passage is just for you,
and it means thus and thus.” Aromatically, He then has filled our souls.
Our sheet has been cleaned by the soul Washer of Souls. The result is that
we get up and begin to move and take on life with a fresh touch from God.
He takes our creativeness and uniqueness and mixes until it is a smooth
blend, stirs and bakes until the most delicious aroma arises from our lives,
touching others who need to rest their lives in Jesus.
Is it clean sheet day for you? Have you made the walk to Washer of Souls
named God? Oh for the joy of clean sheet day?

As I read your nostalgic offering on CLEAN SHEETS, I gazed up at a picture of Sister Grandma sitting above my computer and a flood of memories of washday came streaming through. I remember wash day on VINE STREET before the dryer came….and even after….we hung the wash out….in the winter it was the basement but in the summer we hung the sheets in our back yard and then Mother would say,’go pick the clothes” which meant collect the clothes and the CLOTHES PINS!! But….I realize, Rena, that your article was not just about CLEAN SHEETS and JUST ANY WASH DAY. But, like the song….”O HAPPY DAY, O HAPPY DAY….WHEN JESUS WASHED….WHEN JESUS WASHED….WHEN JESUS WASHED…HE WASHED MY SINS AWAY…O HAPPY DAY…..” Oh Happy Day, INDEED!! Jesus’ WASH DAY is THE BEST!!!
Thank YOU, Jesus, for creating WASH SINS AWAY DAY!
I need this clean sheet day everyday and many times a day. It is always encouraging to remind ourselves just how many blessings we have each day. Count your blessings name them one by one. And, this is ONE!
Thanks, I agree with you totally. I need clean sheet day to help me out. Connie

Praise GOD for your testimony!!!!

Rena, this story brought back memories of sheets out on the clothesline also. My grandmother made clean sheet day a little longer than my mother did. After my grandmother and I gathered the sheets in together, she would painstakingly press every wrinkle out with this steam press machine positioned on her kitchen table warning me not to put my finger in there or it would get pressed too! The scenes of that day amplify the meaning of Ephesians 5:27 for me…”that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing…”
