As I thought about and tried to understand this quote I was reminded of Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 11: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” And “He has made everything beautiful in its time”. Then I read Ps 144:15 : “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord”. “Happy is the man who finds wisdom” (Prov 3:13). “Happy are all who retain her (wisdom)”(Prov 3:18.) It seems to possess or carry Wisdom, which is really God Himself, is to possess or carry happiness. When we do, then all seasons of our life and our walk become beautiful.
Debi,
I’d like to add to the “happy is the man who finds wisdom.” If you read further in this scripture, you find that “wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold.” “Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.” “She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying.” “Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.” Now, God promises us that He will give wisdom, (Proverbs 2:6, James 1:5), if we ask.”But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.”(James 1:5)I believe that we will be happy when we find wisdom, but we do need to have faith in God when we ask for it, because we may face some “hard knocks” to get to that wisdom.
Thanks Needles for these additions and scriptures and your wisdom. You are right about facing hard knocks. Ecclesiastes 1:18 says: “For in much wisdom is much grief and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. I think of apple trees. We love their fruit but they go thru severe pruning in the cold of winter in order to produce it.
I have always understood the writer of Ecclesiastes, calling himself, the Preacher in these verses to mean that even wisdom and knowledge can be vanity when not exercised properly and that means OBEDIENCE to God. So having wisdom and knowledge is folly and vanity unless you give it away and put it to work.
If we pause and think how much grief and sorrow we have for looking for and asking for and having wisdom since God said we ask and we get it. Now the question always comes “What did you need it for or why did you want it and what did you do with it?
Wow, Sara I went searching …look what I found in Jeremiah 29:9…Jeremiah was speaking to God/complaining really…about not giving out His word( Gods)in His name anymore..(Gods wisdom)…look what happened..vs 9..Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But His word was in mine heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not refrain……Wow If he hadnt given out that wisdom…I think he’d of burned up (my thoughts)…then there would be no Jereimiah….and all would have been vain..vanity…dj
I see what you are saying about asking for wisdom, Sara…as you put it, why do you want it and what do you plan to do with it when GOD grants it to you since with that glorious gift of wisdom comes MUCH grief and sorrow. Is one planning on using it for the Kingdom work, or for bringing vainglory to oneself? Sara said, to not use it improperly but in “OBEDIENCE” to God. I read in the Newsletter, LIFE IN JESUS this quote, paraphrased….”after we have surrendered OUR AGENDAS…(as in “what are you going to do with WISDOM?”) then God calls us to OBEDIENCE, surrendering our will to His will. OBEDIENCE is NOT compliance. Compliance is simply conformed, outward behavior that not only misses the inward spiritual benefits of obedience but produces resentment and bitterness of heart.” I guess it is a sort of lipservice; a lukewarm response to the call of God or the promptings of Holy Spirit. As the Lord said in Matthew 15:8, “these people honor Me with their lips but their hearts are far from Me.” And the quote in the newsletter goes on to say, “On the other hand godly obedience produces the fruit of the Spirit, joy, peace, love, etc.
So the questions Sara posed above were, “Why do you want it (Wisdom) and “What will you do with it?” One Answer is that if Wisdom is used in the godly capacity in which it is given, for the work of the Kingdom as in “a word fitly spoken in due season (wisdom) is like apples of gold in settings of silver”,(Proverbs 25:11) the Fruit of the Spirit will be evidenced in our lives as love, joy, peace and SOULS FOR CHIRST and that Fruit will remain.
This quote caused me to go through some of the blogs that have already been written and it started this way…first I thought seasons of the year or seasons of ones life…both…so I looked up Happiness in web dic..happiness=2a. a state of well-being and contentment..then to scripture..Hebrews 13;5.Let you manner of life be witout covetousnes, and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee…this took me to the blog written by Needles titled..God Has a Purpose for your life..and the one titled Unfold in the Arms of Love ,,,,,by Sara……..dj
I would write this “All seasons are beautiful for the person who carries beauty within.”
I think this would be either happiness or beauty and that would be graciousness, kindness, love, joy, peace, goodness, self-control, mercy, and faithfulness. When beauty/happiness/wisdom shines into the world from within we will see unity.
Eph. 4:13 …until we all come to the unity of Faith.” Eph 4:3 “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” And, we all love Ps. 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethern to dwell together in unity.”
Chris and Tammy took me pumpkin shopping at pet -a- farm and I got bad allergies and a rash and they got this funny looking picutre. HUm! did I say funny?
Oh! almost forgot! Gary yelled about this time “they spit.”
Your heart is filled with Laughter too!….Along with Beauty and Exactness..:)…dj
That Llama was just blessed to have Sara pay attention to it. And he/she didn’t spit at her, Right? See? The Book of Genesis says that God gave mankind dominion over all the animals. That includes Llamas. This Camel’s cousin knows a good thing when he/she sees it. Sara, you are very brave and authoritative!!!
Sara, I’m not going to tell my chickens about your new friend. They’ll be jealous. I hope you are wearing your old shoes while out playing with the live stock.
like the ones I wore to your chickenfarm are now old. But, I need a face mask with this animal spitting. But guess what I heard? They would only spit if they feel threatened but Llama felt love and didn’t spit on me.
I surmised that the Llama was flattered by your attention. However, I am not so worried about Wendy’s chickens being jealous (which is NOT a fruit of the Spirit, by the way, Wendy…please preach to the chickens about that) but how about Shadow & Lily! Whatever will they think when they see “Llama Llove”?
