“Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”

In heaven there are no opposing forces of darkness or anything that can come against God’s will. On earth, we have to stand against the forces of darkness. “We have to fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12
What do you think “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” mean to us earthlings?

I have two thoughts. One is that Jesus said the kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:21) And God has given us a living manual, the Bible, to learn to live submitted to that Kingdom of God and to His will while we live on earth. And He has given us the Living Christ and the Living Holy Spirit to enable us to do that. And Jesus instructed us to pray for this.
The second thought is that my understanding is that the Bible says that Jesus will come again to earth, riding a white horse with the armies of heaven following Him to rule and reign on the earth. (Rev 19:11-16). His will will be done as in the heavenly kingdom.
As Debi commented, Jesus said the Kingdom of God is within you. And still we long for Christ to “come” and set up His Kingdom which He will do in the millennium. But why wait?
Thy will be done ….and the old KJV says, “in earth” and I have heard it taught….IN THESE EARTHEN VESSELS. So that the teaching is that God’s will will and is done in these earthen vessels, where the Kingdom of God is. If we would see with open eyes, like Elisha’s servant, we would see that we have it all…it’s right here, now. The Kingdom is here and the will to do the Father’s will is within us. When we really, truly believe it, we will Do it and Be it.

What about my comment on this statement?
On earth we have opposing forces everyday greeting us. With the Holy Spirits help we can stand for Jesus. We must discipline ourselves knowing through the word what the forces are and be obedient to what God has called us to do about these forces. Do we just say, “No thanks!” or do we confront the enemy in the situation? or do we rebuke this situation in Jesus’s name? or “Recognize the enemies work and place the situation or spiritual attack in the hands of Jesus to resolve? There are many things that come against God’s people that seem to hinder the work of the Lord or so the Devil thinks. It may be an illness or the enemies messengers bothering you through body attacks or family/friend attacks. It may be having others come against you just because you have the Spirit of the Living God within you. In the end God wins. God builds the character and resolve of the person standing with Him. The people of God praise God and in time the situation will praise and testify to our Great God as well. A character in the bible who did this very well was Daniel. All the deliciacies of the Babylonian world did not sway Daniel. He stood with God and God honored him. If we stand like Daniel in our world God will honor us. There may be a ‘mini-pause’ in our lives but God has control and that ‘mini-pause’ when directed on God’s highway leads to eternal joy.
Your statement, “on earth we have to stand against the forces of darkness” : Driving to work Thursday for the first time, praying in the car, I got a revelation about this. It was like the Holy Spirit said, “why don’t you put on your armor, every day?” I was suddenly illuminated and admonished that , whether I liked it or not, I wasn’t putting on the armor because I didn’t REALLY BELIEVE it would help me stand against the forces of darkness. I had to reckon with that. The helmet of salvation…which helps protect my thought life…a real biggie that I need constantly; the shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of the enemy that spray against me every moment of every hour; the breastplate of righteousness that is the moral strength in the face of amorality and immorality we see each day all around us; putting on the shoes, the sandals of being prepared to take the Gospel with us..”how beautiful are the feet of those who bring the Good News”..and sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
I felt the Holy Spirit saying to me…’if you really believed that this armor will protect you every day..if you truly believed it you would never fail to “put it on” in the Spirit, every day, every day. Every day you would pray in the Spirit and intercede for the Body of Christ, God’s people.”
If we renew our minds every day…back off bad thinking…just identify it immediately, just rebuke it, reject it, call it…using the armor of God we will be able to stand against the forces of darkness.
If we give in one iota, the foothold of the enemy increases exponentially.
I had to repent and took on the armor. I have remembered to do it for two days and this is my recall, as I write this that as I stated in the comments before…if I truly believe it, rather than just write about it or give it lip service, then I will DO it.
Good thoughts. The enemy of our soul sure wants to take away from God’s Kingdom. And, the last thing the enemy wants is for others to join the Kingdom of God. Leaving the Kingdom of darkness for the Kingdom of Light would be “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
Many Kingdom members seem to have compromised and hang out in the wrong Kingdom all to often. If we were to pray daily “The Lord’s Prayer” maybe we would have more success in seeing others participate in God will on earth. I have heard soft Christians say we can win them with honey ie our own selfish desires to be accepted or liked. Sad for God’s K and His will being done in earth as in heaven. Because heaven is full of Kingdom dwellers.
The opposing forces of Satan are serious about their destructive efforts and are looking constantly to ‘devour us’ (I Pet 5:8). We are told that we will have to be soldiers, and stay alert and vigilent in order to resist and defeat. We are not supposed to be ‘entangled with affairs of this life’ because we are engaged in warfare. II Tim 2: 4 says we must do this to please the Lord of the Kingdom of God who ‘enlisted us.’
Today we went to Leesburg Community Church and the pastor was speaking on forgiveness. In THE LORD’S PRAYER one section says, “And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. ” He was telling us that it is so important that we forgive because if we don’t – what that other person did as far as sin will fall upon us. It is up to us to forgive them and we should do it everytime their face pops up in our minds until we feel sorry for them and lift them to the Lord. He said one man said to him I cannot forgive and the pastor replied, Then I hope you never sin again. Jesus took all our sins on the cross, He didn’t pick and choose which sin He would or would not forgive. The pastor said that it is in studying the word and praying the Word that we can extend the forgiveness to the person. We can’t do it in our own might. It is ony with the help of God. God himself will deal with sin. It is not ours to deal with. If we don’t forgive the person, we may find out we are acting out the same sin the person exhibited that we wouldn’t forgive. We thus commit suicide to ourselves. Anger seems to possess us.
Also this morning I was reading a commentary on the Armor of God and it said that the armor of God was faceted together by prayer. Yes praying the Lord’s prayer and being sincere in our prayer life will shed light wherever we go and keep us focused and diligent on Godly character because the consequences will lead you down a path and not Jesus’s path.
I have been thinking if there were a heaven/earth poll what it would look like? Would it be 50/50 or 100/100 or 90/10? How much of God’s will is done on earth compared to Satan’s will? And, the second part of the poll what percentage does the earthlings play in “God’s will being done on earth as in heaven”?
Oh my, I wonder if we want to see the poll in heaven. I wonder if we slow down God’s providental time line by not following his will when prompted by the HOLY SPIRIT. Or if we did do his will as prompted by the HOLY SPIRIT on earth as it is in heaven would we be now seated with Jesus. Perhaps I better stop wondering and pray the LORDS PRAYER sincerely for this day asking the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me to carrying out HIS will. I also pray Psalm 51:11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. I might fail and do at times at His promptings but Lord make me and each of us more alert to the promptings and more focused to moving with the HOLY SPIRIT so that the poll will be slanted in your favor.
In Sara’s poll I fear that it might turn out 90% our will and 10% God’s will in the actions of man’s deeds on earth.
Now this is absolute conjecture but a thought came to me about your question…what percetage does the eartling play in God’s will being done…
I offer this: If we live by the Spirit it might only take 1% of our play in the matter and IF WE WILL ALLOW…99% Holy Spirit. If we allow the Spirit of God to guide and direct us and lead us. With man these spiritual things are impossible but with God….ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
I have tried today to keep my mind focused, my heart open, my eyes on target and my ears attuned to what the Spirit is saying! Also my feet walking forward, my hands on task and my mouth on off except when He wants me to turn it on. It takes a lot of practice to answer the prayer of ‘thou will be done on earth as it is in heaven when it involves me.
Speaking of coming against the forces of darkness I would like to share a short except from Bill Johnson’s Book, “STRENGTHEN YOURSLEF IN THE LORD. In this particular chapter he is talking about emphasizing Biblical patterns of praise and worship and how dancing and clapping and lifting of hands, etc was a problem for his reserved personality. But then he realized that God commands it in His book and God would not ask us to do something He had not instilled in our new nature of the born again experience. And this is the part that I want to share, really. Bill Johnson says (quote) “To allow my self-image of being reserved and quiet to rob me of experiencing my new nature that i(has been) set free to outwardly express my joy in God, is a spiritual injustice. I AM NOT WILLING to come into agreement with THAT LIE (of the enemy). As i discovered, praising and worshiping is not pleasing to the flesh which may be one reason why it is so powerful in removing the cloud of oppression. THE ENEMY IS EMPOWERED BY HUMAN AGREEMENT. To agree with anything he says gives him place to kill, rob, steal and destroy. We fuel the cloud of oppression by agreeing with our enemy. Praise with rejoicing cancels out that agreement.”(unquote)
So another tool against the enemy and the darkness of this worldly system is the sacrifice of praise. It is a weapon to help us stand against
the forces of darkness. And it thrills God’s heart.
