Philippians 4:4-5 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”

”Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going.“
John 12:35 NLT

What a beautiful photo, Sara. It really illustrates your scriptures I think, especially, “Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you.” …as the light of day begins to fade into the darkness of night….reminding us how short the time of Light really is.
To me, looking at the heavenly light colors gives a sense of peace…”IF” we walk, and heed the warnings of the scriptures given.
I wanted to find out some more on what the Bible defines as walking in the Light and share a few scriptures I found that helped define how to walk in Light.
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.” Genesis 6:9
“Walk before Me, and be blameless” Gen 17:1
“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!” Psalm 1:1
“Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.” Psalm 86:11
“…so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;” Colossians 1:10
Debi. Seems Merton understood well “all in a manner”…
“The spiritual life is first of all a life. It is not merely something to be known and studied, it is to be lived.” –Thomas Merton, Thoughts in Solitude
“The holy Lord God of Israel had told all of you, “I will keep you safe if you turn back to me and calm down. I will make you strong if you quietly trust me.”
Isaiah 30:15 CEV

During difficult times, maybe holidays, family gatherings when emotions and often words and actions seem to be running like wild horses. Words from the Word of God when properly given and spoken; ”Timely advice is lovely, like golden apples in a silver basket.“ Proverbs 25:11 NLT
”The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

As a child, I recall having an Advent calendar each year. Usually there was a little door to open daily that revealed a message, beautiful picture that told the Christmas story and sometimes a candy. Each day leading up to Christmas day, the birth of Christ, I looked forward to finding what was behind the door.
As I have been reading all your Advent season blogs, comments, pictures, photos and scriptures, Sara, it has been like an Advent calendar…only better! Thank you for providing this for us readers this Advent season (and all year long!).
The footnotes for John 12: 35, 36 says: (NLT) “ Jesus said he would be with them in person for only a short time, and they should take it vantage of his presents while they had it. Like a light shining in a dark place, he would point out the way they should walk. If they walked in his life, they would become ‘ children of light,’ revealing the truth and pointing people to God. As Christians, we are to be Christ’s light bearers, letting his light shine through us. How brightly is your light shining? Can others see Christ in your actions?”
Great footnotes Tammy and even greater when we follow them in our daily sharing of our gifts of ministry.
In trying to answer the questions from your footnotes I have often felt (esp. in my younger years) and seen in others this kind of light! :
When we need to be a “LIGHT” in darkness we become an angry fire burning all around us with our very own self righteous acts! Whoooopeee for me we might think. I’ve done a great thing! And, we might have just accomplish and grown weed food for our ego! We are feeding our anger by allowing angry to become our ego while thinking we are a light!
First, seek the Holy Spirit to teach us and give us wisdom.* We might need to allow God to heal our own angry hearts and spirits before we light a wild fire. God does allow us to come into a place of peace,joy and hope in Him for ourselves and others before we can speak truth to others.
* ”If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.“
