Love one another

Jesus speaking, “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34,35)

Love one another

My bracelet of many years. It was a gift. I don’t think I wore it very often. When I did I thought of a daisy which reminded me of my sister, Barbara. When she dwelled on earth she often thought of herself as a daisy. So it made me think of her. Maybe a friend gave it to me to remind me of her. She was very lovely and full of love for others.

Just this week after years I thought I would wear for the day since it’s early March, rainy and little signs of spring which I keep searching for.

When I put it on my arm and looked I saw heart after heart. I thought that’s not my daisy bracelet! Where did I get this?

Do you see hearts? I do! I thought of Jesus saying, “love one another.” Then, I quickly looked up scripture where he introduced these words with, “A new commandment I give you…” I’m now thinking what was the old commandment that I may have been following?

If, I follow this new commandment, “everyone will know I am a disciple of Jesus”. Maybe if I slow down and become more observant of God’s creation I might have a little more “enlightenment” as to God and His creation!

  1. Looking at your bracelet, Sara, it seems to say also to me that love blooms when our hearts are connected to Him and His Spirit lives in us. The middle silver circle has some marks that look like wind blowing seeds to me. Reminded me of this scripture from John 3:8, “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

I looked up some cross references my NLT bible had for the scripture you posted, “John 13:34,35.”
Here are some things/scriptures I found helpful that related to your post:

I Peter 1:22: “You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.”

I John 2:7-8: “Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.”

I John 3:23-24: “Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining. Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.”

I John 4:10-11: “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.”

I also kept reading and saw from I John 4: 15-17: “All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect.”

  2. I do see the hearts on the bracelet above! The heart was my favorite thing to learn about, while in nursing school. Have you ever heard the expression….”get to the heart of the matter?” Seems the “heart of the matter” in this blog, may be obedience? Am I on the right or wrong track? 🤔???
