Light out of darkness, in many ways to others joy, to Him praise.
I take out my trusty water worn brush, a flash of color or a
tinted hush. Browns and tans, blues with hues, a twinkling eye,
one pup or two.
My gift of painting is an outpouring of the love that was poured
into me through hard work and true friendship by many.
“Life is to be fortified by many friendships, to love and be loved is the greatest happiness of existence.” Sydney Smith…..(On an earlier blog by Sara she asked is this true?) My answer was yes and what I am writing is why I said yes. By painting dog portraits I find I get stronger and the one who receives the portrait of their special pet gets encouragement and comfort…and the gift of love and freindship grows.
I literally watch the вЂ?dog painting’ take form, it’s like having a beautifully big wrapped present and you can’t wait to see what’s inside. This is just how I feel when I paint. I never know the way it will turn out, and when it’s finished I’m even surprised, and that lets me know it’s Jesus, it’s all Jesus. Because I know what my painting looked like before His love was poured into me through acts of kindness and true friendship…so when I paint a picture, you’re getting more than a portrait of a special dog, it’s the Love of God shining through…dj

I RESPONDED TO ONE OF GARY’S BLOG’S ABOUT DOG SPELT BACKWARDS IS GOD. SO GOD’S LOVE SHINING THRU IS TRUE. I STILL KEEP A PICTURE OF MY BEST FRIEND RADARR. HE DIED A THE YOUNG AGE OF 15. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. A FRIEND OF MINE TOOK A PICTURE OF HIM A YEAR BEFOR HE DIED AND GAVE IT TO ME THE DAY I BURRIED HIM. I THANK GOD I HAD HIM. I WISH I HAD THE GIFT TO PAINT. BECAUSE I WOULD PAINT THE BIGGEST PICTURE OF HIM. HE WAS TRUELY SENT FROM GOD. I GUESS THAT’S WHY THEY SAY THE DOG IS MAN’S BEST FRIEND. SO IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of your dog portraits hangs in our family den. When I commissioned you to paint it and gave you a photo of our two dogs to work from, I got excited. I was the one who felt like I was getting a ‘big wrapped present’ that I couldn’t wait to open and view. I was not disappointed. You truly captured the dogs’ features and their personalities! And your fee for such a work of art was so very reasonable. This painting brings joy and encouragement and comfort just looking at it. Jesus’ love and gift through you gave us this lasting memory that I know was born out of a heart of love, care and friendship.

They are the companions of love that I thought of as I wrote this piece…they are framed in my heart…each dog I paint is framed in love in my heart….but your right I should have said these are THE FAMILY PETS of wow ONE BIG FAMILY…..it includes me……and a whole lot more….luv dj….am I still getting my bones picked?
Do you see the love portrayed in these doggies’ eyes, especially the little, chuncky black Pug, Roxy? She looks at you JUST LIKE THAT and your heart melts. Not that the others don’t break your heart, also. Dorothy, you have so captured that special quality of the love you so often speak of in the eyes and expression of our beloved dogs. I have painted other things, like wall murals of grapes, and movie reels, fun things like lady bugs and butterflies, but also on wooden cabinets that Gary made, Ive painted roses, noahs ark, oriental scenes, just about anything paintable,…but my main focus for now in painting is dog portraits, and its so much fun to mix the colors and with each painting someting is always learned…some new technique or color mixture…..(painting on walls is real fun, more space)….dj:)
Dorothy God has blessed you with such a talent. I remember when you started that you wanted to copy someone else. However, God blessed you with a uniqueness that was fresh and alive, which He alone could formulate in your hands. You have blessed so many with your talent that he continues to flow in you and out of your well worn paint brush.
The picture you show reminds me of Rusty. Many a time he would keep me company, and even as he aged I remember how he would get so happy when his master Jon would return home. Thanks Dorothy for the memories.

yes.. I am doing doggie portraits for Christmas, and as the time is drawing near…it is now on a first come basis as I would need one week to finish the painting…and that would have to be within this time frame 7-15of Dec….in order to recieve it back to requester in time for Christmas…but there are other Holidays…birthdays which a beloved pet portrait would bless someone greatly…:).dj
