FROGS

In an attempt to encourage civility, respectfulness and courtesy, among our students and make it more palatable to them, I wrote, with the input from students from time to time, this little musical comedy “FROGS”.
In the following scene Sir Frogmere, a valiant and courageous amphibian and his sidekicks, Lord Lizzard and Sir Ignatius Iguana, a.k.a. “IGGY” have just come to the rescue of Princess Pale Moon who, has forgotten her crown in her excitement to meet Sir Lancelot Dancealot at the Palace of BURGER KING in town; the forgetting of which is an absolute NO-NO for any proper princess.
She sings as she comes upon the scene of valorous men, er, amphibians

“I FORGOT MY CROWN
I FORGOT MY CROWN I CAN’T GOT TO TOWN
WITHOUT MY CROWN
NOW I’M GONNA BE LATE AND MISS MY DATE
A PROPER PRINCESS NEVER MAKES A PROPER PRINCE WAIT
SO I MUST HURRY HOME I CAN’T GO TO TOWN WITHOUT MY CROWN
“Sir Frogmere & his buddies show the Princess a shortcut back to the castle and as she trips back through the meadow she nearly steps on
REV. SQUEAK, an honorable church ordained Mouse and minister who has been out jogging…”’You know…just to keep fit for the pulpit”

He enters and sings:

The mouse sings…..
I GOTTA KEEP FIT FOR THE PULPIT
IT’S A WELL KNOW FACT YOU SEE
MY SPIRITUAL NEEDS AND MY EXERCISING DEEDS
ARE ALL IMPORTANT SO PLEASE TAKE HEED
I GOTTA KEEP FIT FOR THE PULPIT
IT’S IMPORTANT AS CAN BE
SO YOU REALLY OUGHT TO TRY IT
KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR DIET
AND MIRACLES CAN HAPPEN ,YOU SEE
LET YOUR SPIRIT RUN FREE
AND YOUR HEART AND SOUL AGREE
AND YOU WILL FEEL JUST HEAVENLY
GOTTA KEEP FIT FOR THE PULPIT.

  1. What a cute play. At first I thought of the 40 some frogs that I just purchase for our school to dissect. My students are really looking forward to this activity and I never will know how many a surgeons or nurses will be birthed through this activity.

What I really enjoyed MOST about this play is the deeper meaning. It reminded me of Jesus as the bridegroom and we the church as the bride. We have to get ready. We better have our crown on. We better become more and more like Jesus to stand beside him. Also it reminded me of the maidens who had oil in their lamps and those who failed to get oil in theirs. Those that had the oil could enter in and those who did not could not enter in to heaven. May we all have oil in our lamps and shine forth for the world to see. May we be the frogs who stand fit before the pulpit because our lights shone forth for all the world to see.

    1. Tell me tell me who who wrote the book of love. What do you mean “Teacher of the Year”? Dissect 40 frogs! Fifth graders dissect 40 frogs? Why not 60?

You look forward to this activity? I have frogs in my pond, I think, I haven’t seen them but I heard them and they are music to my ears. And, you, are taking their babies and taking them apart. Please call me for a little counsel!!!!!!!!!

Well, I like the part about Jesus and the church.

    2. Say! Thanks, Rena for recognizing the spiritual message in the play that is being conveyed to the children. I will try to publish other parts of it and see if you can read spiritual meaning into it.
The part you would LOVE is “Grandma Queenie” King Mergatroyd’s irascible “Queen Mother” She is fashioned after Sister Grandma and is a hoot. More to come.

  2. Poor frog Princess! She looks like she needs to read Sara’s blog on Procrastination. She got so absorbed in her own selfish emotions that she forgot her crown. Forgetting her crown then tied up Frogmere and his buddies so they couldn’t get there work done and then tied up the Prince and put him on hold. Sounds like procrastination has a dominoe effect on others’ lives. Good lesson from the Frogs!
