Thanks, Sara, for a timely word about humility. I have been listening to you and Gary other of God’s teachers and what keeps coming up in the lessons and teaching and preaching is…HUMILITY. It seems THAT PARTICULAR virtue OPPOSES, drastically and dramatically, the sin of pride….. that ugly and spiritually inappropriate display that is so opposite of Jesus Christ, “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with GOD but made HIMSELF of no reputation and took upon Himself the form of a servant….”
That servant attitude of humility is so pleasing and lovely in the sight of the LORD. Moses was humble. Francis of Assisi was humble. Mother Theresa was humble and JESUS CHRIST THE LORD was humble. People who are not trying to advance their own agenda are remarkably lovely and gracious people. Humility before the Lord is something to be sought after and set before us as a prize in the KINGDOM of Heaven.
I will strive diligently, for it will take ALL of that, to attain the virtue of humility with the help and grace of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
As I have been contemplating this all morning , more things have come to mind concerning humility. The Bible says to HUMBLE OURSELVES. And He will reward us in due time. That is so much better than the HUMILIATION that comes when we act prideful, which results in our disgracing ourselves. Jesus exhorts us to humble ourselves rather than disgrace ourselves. So it must be more than just giving lip service, a false show. WE must guard against the Pharisiacal kind of humility…outward show that masks a puffed-up spirit.
This is a DEEEP-WELL topic. I suppose it is such because although as simple as the BIBLICAL command is to do it, how difficult it is to rein in the soul and flesh to bring it into the submission of the WORD OF GOD or a leader ~~~~~~~ or our brother!
I was just thinking….Maybe the Lord put the “U” in Humility for our edification and exhortation as He was speaking to Us, His Church.
in working through this.
I thnk putting a guard over one’s lips is a big issue here, as well as physical countenance don’t you?
Right on, MG, we don’t need the “puffed up” attitude. Is it possible that God asks us to humble ourselves, so that there would be no question of true humility? We live in a world where society teaches…”I,ME,ME,ME”. It CAN be easy to forget that humility needs to be at the top of our list. Thank you, Sara, for reminding us, that “a step lower” may help us to “look up” a little easier! May we all take a look at our life and take RESPONSIBILITY for humbling ourselves. God, help us to rid ourselves of societies’ belief that “ME” is #1! God must INCREASE and “ME” must decrease!

Right on Needles! It is something we have to work on all the time.
