During a recent retreat, “Dance of Healing” I was reminded how important it is to keep in step with the Holy Spirit.
Connecting with my occupation as a teacher, I realize that there are joyous consequences to keeping in step with assignments and dire consequences to not keeping in step. For instance, sometimes I have students who come to me explaining the reasons why they didn’t turn in an assignment on time. They had been given every detail of the assignment and the due date. Yet when the due date came, they had nothing to turn in. As a result they received a failing mark. Those who turned in their assignment with attention to every detail and on time received a grade of excellent.
As far as being a Christian, I find we are back in school facing similar situations. The teacher, The Holy Spirit, speaks to us giving us the details and the due date. Sometimes we fail to turn in the assignment on time or not at all. If we do turn it in on time we receive a blessing and joy or an excellent grade. If not, we all know what was received – an F or failure.
Our assignments from The Holy Spirit impacts the world for Jesus. For instance, the teacher – The Holy Spirit may tell you to change your outfit., In your obedience to the given assignment perhaps you will be blessed with a gift to match your outfit and the giver is blessed beyond words knowing that God had you change your outfit just for them. As a result a blessing and joy (excellent grade) was received.
Or perhaps the Lord told you to take a group fishing. You followed through on the assignment. As a result everyone was blessed with catching a fish. Also someone who had never caught a fish caught the biggest of all. As a result blessings and joy (excellent grade) was received.
Perhaps you were told by The Holy Spirit what to bake or cook for a group of people. You listened and carried out every detail given to you in an organized and highly skillful way. You served it up in a beautiful way. As a result everyone was energized, filled with joy unspeakable (excellent grade plus) was received.
What if these people would’ve ignored the teacher’s, The Holy Spirit, instructions. We could speculate on the could’ve, would’ve, should’ves but as we all know such in action would not have accomplished a thing for Jesus. As a result sadness and a disappointing grade of failure. But in the case of the above examples, joy was in the house due to those who were in step with the assignments of the teacher, The Holy Spirit. May we all join those who are in step with The Holy Spirit. In doing so we bring joy to Jesus.

Well said, Rena. We went to a Dance, this week. The ones who knew how to “dance”, who knew how to step when the moves were called out, received a treasure prize for knowing the “routine”. Those who did NOT know the steps, or recognize the calls ended up as “wall-flowers”…NO partners, NO romance! Ya’ gotta dance, gotta dance, gotta dance!!!!
These are good illustrations of keeping in step Rena and I witnessed some beautiful dancers at the retreat. Conversely, I learned that if partners don’t keep in step they can trip over each other’s feet and possibly even fall down.
I love the part that we all have the ‘same teacher’, The Holy Spirit. He is fair, honest, loving, kind, giving and has a deeper than deeper longing to give us all A’s. He has not one little bit of partiality in Him. He has a place and a part for all.
He is always asking “May I have this dance?” Even, if I stumble and fall, He picks me back up and invites me to dance again. So precious!!!!!!!!
Even If I stumble and fall, He picks me back up …..those are comforting words….but most important and as you said so precious is He invites me to dance again….dj
thank you Rena for sharing this especially about home work being turned in on time and grades….I remember trying so hard to just even get a D in math. I always turned in my home work on time did all the assigned pages…never could get a passing grade that is until I was given a special teacher who taught in a different way , then I not only got a passing grade in math I made the honor roll in that particular level….It is so wonderful that the Holy Spirit knows all our needs and meets each one where they are ….all He does is asks will you dance with me……dj
