“There is this difference between happiness and wisdom, that he that thinks himself the happiest man, really is so; but he who thinks himself the wisest, is generally the greatest fool.”

I had to consider a while the “proverb” that Sara quoted above.I THOUGHT…The Bible says ask for wisdom and God will give liberally. (James 1:5) But then I saw that it says “”THINKS HIMSELF is the wisest”,and that cast a different light on it. Then this morning I read a Scripture in Isaiah 5:21 quoted by Anne Graham Lotz that says, “Woe to them who are WISE IN THEIR OWN EYES and clever IN THEIR OWN SIGHT” And the Scripture of admonishment….”Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord and will not go unpunished” (Prov. 16:5) WOW!!!!! Then I considered the Scripture…”As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Prov. 23:7) HELP!! So I go back to the drawing board and consider and search some more.
This is a excellent mystery to contemplate. Thanks, Sara, for the “mental & spiritual WORKOUT”!!
what kind of person can you be from thinking in your heart?
Thinking on this proverb I found where Proverbs 3:7 tells us to ‘be not wise in your own eyes. And in the same Proverb vs:13 it says ‘Happy is the man who finds wisdom.’ Sara, your ‘Dance of Healing’ gave us advice on finding this wisdom (from The Message) : ‘I’m writing out clear directions to Wisdom Way, I’m drawing a map to righteous road”….keep vigilant watch over your heart that’s where life starts..”. You told us to watch what our mouths said. So all this tells me that I would be a fool to be wise in my own eyes but I need to pursue this wisdom and in order to be truly happy which is one measurement of having found wisdom.
There is GREAT, MASSIVE power in THINKING IN YOUR HEART for it defines what you are (OR COULD BE)!! So changing our hearts may be the order of the day if we want to be like Jesus. Like the song says, “Change my heart, oh God; make it ever true. Change my heart oh God, Let me be like You.” Or the Psalm that says, ” Create in me a clean Heart and renew a right spirit within me” (Ps. 51 :10) OR…..”Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a fool” (Ps.22:15)
So…which shall it be? The heart of wisdom or the heart of a fool… for as you think in your heart THERE YOU ARE!!! (Ps. 23:7)
Let us sing Sara’s favorite song….”LET THE PATTERN OF THE SON BE THE ONE, THE ONLY ONE, THAT MEN MAY SEE IN ME”…………………..(C)GWEN SHAW
I HAVE LEARNED A GREAT DEAL LIVING IN NORTH CAROLINA. THIS SMALL TOWN IS A TOWN OF HEART. THE PEOPLE HERE ESPECIALLY COWMILKER AND NEEDLES HAVE SHOWN ME THINKING WITH YOUR HEAD IS NOT ALWAYS THE RIGHT WAY. GOD IS IN MY HEART, AND THAT IS WHERE I TRY TO DO ALL MY THINKING FROM. I FEEL MUCH BETTER WHEN I DO THIS. EVEN THO IN MY HEAD IT MAY NOT SEEM RIGHT MY HEART TALKS TO ME AND WHEN I FOLLOW THROUGH I FEEL GOOD.
Jersey, this is so very interesting to me
How does one switch from ‘thinking in head’ to thinking in heart? Or, how does one know when it is heart and not head?
The part ‘you feel good’…it also very interesting as Cowmilker said “she has to feel” to know and do. Well, I think that is what she said!
I have been trying to study personality and understand how one feels and one thinks.
Sara, you have posed a very IMPORTANT question. How does one know if you’re thinking “in your heart” or “with your head” Here’s another question, related to this. Is “IN” your heart and “IN” your head the same as “WITH” your heart and “WITH” your head? In other words are the “INs and WITHs the same mode of operation or do they differ.
If I think with my heart I may be moved by my feelings and do the THING which I have not been assigned by OUR FATHER to do, but my emotions move me to it. And in the same vein, if I THINK I should do something because my mind tells me it’s a good or nice thing to do (or NOT do) but not have been specifially assigned by OUR FATHER to do that particular “NICE” thing.
This is a dilemma in the BODY OF CHRIST, I believe.
