In our world today we fill our day with a multitude of activities. From the moment our feet hit the floor until we collapse into bed at night we are saturated with activities. Even at night, our sleep may be restless from the ideas that seem not to want to shut off. Carpe Diem we think. That is what we did, we seized the day for all its worth. Is that what Carpe Diem is all about in God’s sight or have we played the fool?
Have we worked so hard that no creativity can enter in? Have we worked so hard that we have shoved God aside? Have we been so busy with the things of the world that we have forgotten that God is with us all the time.
In the ’06 Retreat we studied Genesis 28: 10-22. In that scripture Jacob lays his head down after a full day and dreams of a ladder from earth to heaven. God speaks to him about the awesome promise to him and that he will not leave him until He has done what He promised. Jacob said, “Truly Yahweh is in this place, and I did not know it.” In our occupations do we remember that God is with us or just in our prayer closets or on Sunday mornings?
In John 6:48-58 we were taught this summer that God places His spirit within us. The Holy Spirit is our helper. Many of us are well acquainted with the song “Father Abraham”. According to Romans Father Abraham is our spiritual father or example. How so? Father Abraham entered into God’s plan for him. He never patted himself on the back and said I pulled myself up by my own bootstraps. He gave God all the credit. We therefore are to enter into God’s plan. With the help of the Holy Spirit, which we receive upon accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can enter into what God has planned for us to accomplish. We take our orders from God who we serve. In Romans 3:19-31 – The Message Bible says: “God does not respond to what we do; we respond to what God does…. Our lives get in step with God and all others by letting him set the pace, not by proudly or anxiously trying to run the parade.
In Romans 5: 9-20 – The Message Bible says:
“Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong (Adam and Eve) and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, and another person (Jesus) did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life! One man said no to God and put many people in the wrong; one man said yes to God and put many in the right. Therefore follow Jesus. From the study this summer it was pointed out that if we want to live in Wisdom Way tune our ears to God who has placed His spirit within us. When you enter in faith with God, coming under his authority, we are choosing a dimension of eternity.
How does one move in this move of letting God lead with our time. It was recommended this morning in our church services by our Pastor that we might start out our day asking God the following:
What are the orders for the day? Lord feel free to interrupt me Lord? In doing so we really would have Carpe Diem for the Lord.

Carpe diem is a Latin phrase literally meaning “pluck the day” but usually translated as “seize the day”.
Since the retreat in NC this summer I have been reading “Driven by Eternity” John Bevere. John sure has a way with his careful pen of reminding us that “pluck the day” is more that about today. Each day is about today and forever.
This sure puts a different perspective on my day. I pray that my time and gifts are used more wisely in all I do.
Thanks Rena for reminding me again. Seems like ‘my day’ keeps showing up whereever I turn.
Thanks to your recommendation, Sara, I have been reading that book also. He says our lives compared to eternity are like living one day (24 hours!)out of a million years. And how we spend that ONE day determines how we will spend eternity and that regarding our calling we will not be judged by what we did but by what we were ‘called’ to do.
Sobering.
This really puts your Step #4 ‘Dance of Healing’ in perspective for you said ‘we are living “Coram Deo” in the face of Yaweh; in His Presence’.
I thought about what Sara & Rena expressed about “Seizing the Day” and it came immediately to me….Yes! YOU Seize the day BEFORE IT SEIZES YOU! Our days have a way of doing that to us as Sara lamented. Our “day” can BULLY US, shove us around…dictate our movements for the day, hour by hour, minute by minute…NO LET UP until it is all used up and we have nothing but exhaustion to show for it. SO.. we must seize it like it says in Matthew 11:12 (AMP)”….the Kingdom of God has endured violent assault and the violent man (and woman) seizes it by force AS A PRECIOUS PRIZE…a share in the Heavenly Kingdom…sought with ardent and intense exertion.” And I add…Seize it with wisdom and sacrificial obedience.
CARPE DIEM, INDEED!
Sara I was readin g this morning and saw in 2 Peter 3;8 that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day….boy that made me think….I too pray that my time and gifts are used more wisely too because its being done for a thousand years in the Lords sight (in what I understand)….dj
