Q&A with Jim

I want to ask what the rose of sharon and the lilly of the valley stand for in the bible, as I had a dream a number of years ago where I was told that I would have 2 offspring: the rose of sharon, and the lilly of the valley.

  1. These two phrases are found in THE SONG OF SOLOMON Chapter 2:1. My KJV notes say that the maiden (bride) compares herself to a field flower from the plains of Sharon, an area in Israel in contrast to her Beloved Solomon ( symbol of Christ the Bridegroom) THE KING OF KINGS.

  2. To add to what MG said….in Sara’s book “The Four Bees, Finding Your Spiritual Gifts” she tells us that the rose of sharon and the lily of the valleys represent the daughter speaking and that Solomon answers the daughter by saying “like the lily among thorns so are you my love among the daughters. So are you my love”. Sara tells us that the Song of Solomon is a speaking book.

  3. Song of Songs 2:1-2 (young woman) “1 I am the spring crocus blooming on the Sharon Plain, the lily of the valley.” (young man) “2Like a lily among thistles is my darling among young women.”
footnotes: The rose of Sharon and lily of the valley were flowers commonly found in Israel. Perhaps the girl was saying, “I’m not so special; I’m just an ordinary flower, “to which Solomon replied, “Oh no, you are extraordinary-a lily among throns.” Solomon used the language of love. Nothing is more vital than encouraging and appreciating the person you love. Be sure to tell your spouse, “I love you” every day, and show that love by your actions.”
The verse and footnotes above came from the New Living Translation Bible.

  4. Song of Solomon Chapt. 2 Verse 1.I AM the rose of Sharon, and the Lily of the Valleys.
Exodus 3.verse 14. And God said unto Moses, I AM that I AM
John 8;58..Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, before Abraham was, I AM.
Rev. 1;18….IAm he that liveth, and was dead;…
(could be both male offspring sold out to God just as Christ was and is…therefore allowing them to be both the rose of Sharon and the Lily of the valley….just like Jesus…..

  5. Dorothy, this is a very interesting concept you have spoken of but not sure I understand exactly what you are saying. Would you explain in a little more detail for my understanding. It probably is very clear to you and maybe others but not sure I get it. ie the part about ‘both male offspring….’I always enjoy your input.

  6. MaybeI understand the last part of what Dorothy is saying that Jim’s 2 offspring in dream were titled, lily of valley and rose of Sharon ( which have commonly known to become titles of Jesus in these latter days) and so Jim’s offspring would be like Jesus (Who holds those titles in Christian thought and writings) The first part of her comment is obscure to me only because that famous ‘I AM’ that Dorothy quoted from Exodus in this case, was said by the BRIDE in Song of Solomon 2:1, so we will, as Sara says, need a little more enlightenment on that part of Dorothy’s comment.

  7. Dorothy what you said reminds me of the study we did under Pastor Sara entitled Dressing for his Glory. In that lesson it talks of the rose and the lily as character traits for dressing for his glory. Therefor Jim as you walk with the Lord and talk with the Lord you will have these character traits as offspring (the product, result, or effect of something). The rose we learned was a study of God’s character – majestic. Psalms 103: 1-18 was given in the text. O my soul, bless God. From head to toe. I’ll bless his holy name! O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing! He forgives yours sins-every one. He redeems you from hell-saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy – a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness-beauty eternal. He renews your youth – you’re always young in his presence. God makes everything come out right; he puts victims back on their feet. He showed Moses how he went about his work, opened up his plans to all Israel. God is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, he’s rich in love. He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever. He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs. As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him. And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins. As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him. He knows us inside and out, keeps in mind that we’re made of mud. Men and women don’t live very long; like wildflowers they spring up and blossom. But a storm snuffs them out just as quickly, leaving nothing to show they were here. God’s love, though is ever and always eternal present to all who fear him. Making everything right for them and their children as they follow his Covenant ways and remember to do whatever he said. In the study is referenced Psalms 145: 8-21, Psalms 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? Also Psalm 91: 4, 14-16. Romans 8:31-32 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Pastor Sara’s comments said on the lesson of the Rose: Webster describes majesty as the dignity or power of a sovereign; a sovereign power, grandeur or stateliness; and majestic as having or characterized by majesty, very grand or dignified, lofty, stately. Let’s begin by letting Him, His majesty, heal our broken hearts and bind up our wounds (Psalm 147:3) that we may be made more majestic for “Our King”. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 Looking at the Lily – The Trumpet Call which references 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. Some of the scriptures referenced for the characteristics of His Beauty were Luke 1:35, 1 Peter 2:22, Matthew 11:29, Luke 23:34, Isaiah 53:11, 2 Cor. 5:21, and Phil 2:8. Pastor Sara talks about developing the divine life as taking time. Her note is Hear the Trumpet: Be Encouraged! Yet will I rejoice in the Lord. I will joy in the God of my Salvation, The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills Habakkuk 3:18-19. Wow Jim what beautiful character traits you have or are promised to have as a result of focusing your life on God, the “I Am” – majesty, love, being transformed from glory to glory. May we all desire “Dressing for His Glory – A Fresh Look at Our Goals and Lifestyles” as presented and brought forward by Sara Mullennex in her workshop teachings.

  8. Symbol for “Rose of Sharon” SS 2:1 The church of Christ, beauty

Offspring (David’s) Humanity of Jesus, David’s son, Mt. 1:1 Rev. 22:16

flower, falling beauty of man, James 1:10, I Peter 1:24

  9. Shapes of flowers may symbolize and tell us things also. The lily of the valley has a white bell-shaped flower and the Rose of Sharon may have more of a trumpet shape. Both bells and trumpets make sounds and very distinctive and unique sounds as well.

  10. His offspring could be two males having the same qualities of Christ Jesus. And as Jesus said in the word when he prayed not just for his disciples that were with Him that they would be one as He was and is one with the Father but for all that would come to know Him through them…that they would be one with Him as He was and is one with The Father……So even though Solomons song the first verse was spoken by the bride…to me it was still Christ……(I in you and You in Me..without Me you can do nothing)……I just believe the offspring maybe two male children totallly sold out to serving God…Wallace I like how you put it…Humanity of Jesus…beauty of man……(yet one with God)….dj

  11. something else just to think about……
offspring n. (pl. same )children; descendants (see OFF, SPRING)
OFF=from;#7 away, down; or up from
SPRING=#13place where water, oil,etc wells up from…(American Dictionary)
Could be the two off-springs were not (children) but two spiritual supports….two springs that were off of another major source……The Rose of Sharon(rossol) and the lily of the valley …The Daily Lily………just a possibility….

  12. Yes, interesting and helpful. I figured you all would be experts on the subject of the rose of sharon and lilly of the vallye. This gave me some new perspectives I had never considered. I discovered God may not have been saying exactly what I had previously thought. Thanks so much to everyone for helping enlighten my understanding, and many blessings to all!
