A Teacher’s Reward

Mrs. Oynes
I guess by the grace of God I decided to try to find you on the internet today. I don’t know why or how I stumbled upon your e-mail address but in any case I did. My name is Katherine (Katie) Montalbano, I was in your 2nd and 3rd grade class at Woodlake Elementary. To this day, I feel like your class has given me the best foundation to work with throughout my life. Hannah Kaufmann -Swang and I consistently talk about being in your class and how much of an impression you have made on us. Hannah is still one of my best friends and has been my roommate in college for most of the time.

I am in my 3rd year of college and have recently been accepted to LSU Nursing School. I start in January and I am very excited. I have to admit that I shed a tear or two upon reaching your new school website. Its like it was yesterday being in elementary school, I sometimes wish I could go back. Anyway, I hope all is well with you and your family. God Bless, Katie Montalbano

Isn’t this beautiful. I remember when her Mom had to come get her on the last day of school. She refused to leave the classroom and her Mom came and pulled her and the desk out of the room. She is a precious young woman. I hope they stop by the daily lily. I gave them the address. I think she would enjoy Tammy and Wendy sharing careers. Rena

I am a novice writer and painter who loves to be creative. I love singing but can't sing without a hymnal, except for children's songs. I love to make up my own songs and love the old hymns. I love to garden and got that love from my Mom and Dad who taught be everything I know from planting to harvesting to canning. I'm happy gardening, walking with my pug, JD Sir Winston Churchill, painting, and crafting. I love to spend Saturday's sitting in my rocker going through a bible study. I love working with elementary school aged children and seeing them use their creative gifts. I have taught Sunday school for a number of years and taught in the public schools for 18 years. I might say I'm retired but I spend most of my time subbing and enjoy it immensely. The kids spark my own creativeness.

  1. Ah! Rena. What a lovely reward indeed. I understand how wonderful it is to have students who have left our classrroms come back to give such glowing testimony as to the goodly and godly influence on has had on their lives…..
Katie, you write like a sensitive, caring person….just right for the vocation you have chosen. How priviledged your patients will be to have an appreciative, loving nurse to care for them. And yes, I can understand why Mrs O really impressed you for she is truly an award-winning and involved teacher who cares deeply for her students, mind, body and spirit. You’ll find a lot of that here on our blog.
    Welcome to thedailylily, Katie !

  2. Rena, my friend, read this and remind yourself of the call of God on your life when you feel like quitting. Yes, remember His Faithfulness to you and your students and you will be strengthen daily and ready for more.

Katie sure knows the way to gain favor with God…always remember to give thanks. It is so refreshing to see how a young lady searched and found and took action to give thanks and praise to a teacher for a job well done.

Katie, may God’s grace, mercy and favor shine on you and your studies and vocation each and everyday. Blessings to Hannah as well. Hope you both will be a daily staple here with us @The Daily Lily.

  3. After reading Sara’s comments and exhortation to Rena I had two thoughts. The first one was that Rena’s blog illustrates one of Sara’s quotes from her workbook we studied this summer “The Four Bees” that was all about finding and developing your gifts. Sara’s quotes “Find your gift and use it. Leave it hidden and lose it”. Rena finding and using her gifts helps others like Katie and Hannah find theirs. Wondeful!
And also, Sara pointing out God’s faithfulness is the exact chapter some of us are studying this week in the Beth Moore Bible study. God is timely.

  4. Yes God has always been faithful to me. I love the children he sends my way. I thank God for a wonderful teacher who meant so much to me. I was classified as a slow reader with not much potential to really achieve academically. She loving searched for answers. I often look at the classroom picture and there were well over 32 students in that class. She seemed to love each and everyone of us and was very involved in our daily lives. She encouraged language arts, arts, and dancing. She was fabulous. What a wonderful role model of a teacher God set before me in those early years.
She just this year turned ninety. The year she taught me her daughter died of leukemia. Through all her sadness she reached out and helped me and many others. I thank her and I pray even when I go through hard times I will continue to be the best teacher, just like Mrs. Seibert, I can be for the students that God has trusted into my hand.
Katie and Hannah the best to you both. May God bless you with many blessings along your walk with Him. It is so close to Christmas. Remember all the centers we did and all the ornaments. As you hang them on the tree may you have fond memories of making them. Your lives – stories that have many pages which have been written and many to write yet. Merry Christmas.

  5. Rena,
May God continue to bless you, for using your gift of teaching children. I am so thankful there are still teachers who want to help children succeed. As a mother of two young boys, I’d like to personally thank you, for what you do, for each and every child.

Good luck in nursing school. You have chosen a very rewarding career!
