  1. Just as there is a big difference between a great mind and a little mind, there is a big difference between a purpose and a wish and we shouldn’t confuse the two in our minds. The dictionary says the first is attainable and the latter is unattainable. Seems like that is the difference between a fairytale and reality.
purpose:something set up as an object or end to be attained

wish: to have a desire for (as something unattainable)

We are instructed in the Bible to put on the mind of Christ. God has a specific purpose in everything He does and He never speaks idly or says I wish it were so. If He says it, He does it.
“…so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. “Isaiah 55:11

  2. Debi, gave the def. for wish above…Hope: a person or thing that may help or save someone : their only hope is surgery.
    • grounds for believing that something good may happen : he does see some hope for the future.
… archaic a feeling of trust.
Hope always has a foundation to hope from, on and about! Like Jesus Christ and His teachings and the promises of God and the work of The Holy Spirit. We Hope with Faith in His promises. I think this brings us back to Deut. 28 that was mentioned on another blog. Paul said it best, have Faith, Hope and Love. When prepackaged and set in motion you have a WISH! If wish is what you want!!!

  3. Thanks. Wish is something desired that is unattainable but in the Book of Acts, When Paul and the prisoners were in a broiling sea storm it said they threw the tackling overboard and wished for the day…..and the day CAME. So as Sara indicated above, a wish CAN be attained or come true.
Just a thought that came to mind.

  4. This nursery rhyme came to mind:

If wishes were horses then beggars would ride,
If turnips were swords I’d have one by my side.
If ‘ifs’ and ‘ands’ were pots and pans
There would be no need for tinkers’ hands!

  5. Debi, you got it…”if wishes were horses, beggars would ride proverb if you could achieve your aims simply by wishing for them, life would be very easy.”

  6. purpose, “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists ;”

’09 is a hop, skip and a jump away from today. Many of us will review our lives for ’09 and our purpose for being and our purpose for doing.

I believe all of us can have great minds when we understand our purpose from our maker and keep our mind in tandem with His. The Holy Spirit loves His purpose in helping and guiding each of us to keep our purpose alive and well in ’09.

    Happy New Year to all!

  7. Tandem:a group of two or more arranged one behind the other or used or acting in conjunction.

This makes me picture a team of horses pulling a carriage, wagon or load. The driver holds several reins in his hand all at once, woven between different fingers controlling each horse to keep pace with the other. When this happens and we allow the Holy Spirit to have control of the reins of our minds, our actions will follow, we will be in unity and can pull heavy loads.

  8. May we pull the heavy loads this year. As dailylilies may we pray and praise with purpose, activate that purpose, and fulfill our purpose for this year ( A Journey of Prayer and Praise – a generation without iimits and full of hope.)
