I think they must. Why do I think this? I am found by God wherever I go, are you? The Psalmist recorded in Psalm 139:8 (NIV), “If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”
Matthew Henry commenting on 139:7-16 says, “We cannot see God, but he can see us. The psalmist did not desire to go from the Lord. Whither can I go? In the most distant corners of the world, in heaven, or in hell, I cannot go out of thy reach.”
If I were born in the cell phone generation I might believe; ‘angels carry cell phones.’ My being more like the generation of picturephones in the mid ‘60’s may believe we had to go to centers in DC, NY and Chicago to make contact with others, angels and God. Some of us might say, ‘hey, I can remember no phone at all but I was still found by God.’
Generation ‘talkers‘ may help us define God. The Bibles we read and the Bibles we now read. The phones we had or had not and the phones we have today speak to our thoughts. Don’t they?
Psalm 91 sings; “…“The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
God commands His angels to help us out when He finds we are in need. I am thinking angels must be using cell phones to transfer this type of message and protection for us. I am thinking Angels must carry Apple I-phones!
Angels and their assignments, missions and goals twined with prayers are a great way to open phone communications to Faith.
Sara
I have no doubt that Smart Phones and I.M. were invented [created! ] by JEHOVAH JESUS, the CREATOR of all things….. and the angels [and later] men caught onto it! I mean Father God was the First to use I.M. with His creation, THE BIRDS! They went immediately forward to ‘divulge’ the secrets of the
inner chambers to the prophets, the men and women used of God Almighty.[ Eccl. 10:20]
It would be interesting
to note what NEW THING the Lord will bring forth through His creation, the genius minds of men, that portend the near future and signs of our times.
Thank God the Scripture says, “My times are in Your hands.”[Ps. 31:15]
‘Do Angels carry cell phones?’ I would agree with the ‘yes’, particularly as I think on this Bible verse from Hebrews 13:2 “Don’t forget to show hospitality to believers you don’t know. By doing this some believers have shown hospitality to angels without being aware of it.” Most everyone carries a cell phone, including those who may be a ‘stranger’ to us. God sent angels in person to give messages from Him to many people throughout the Bible before they had cell phones as that was the means of communicating. Today our means of communication is different. God made it that way.
Now, Sara, you’ve got me wondering if angels have GPS units, too!
I really belief that angels or godly communications are far beyond the tools we have in our hands today. In the heavenly beings sight we are probably holding an antiqued version of what God uses. The Great Communicator/Holy Spirit, Helper that Jesus promised us before we went to the Father, are quick and ahead of our communication or thoughts.
No waiting for a cell phone call here:
Romans 8:16. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” 1 John 5:6-8. “And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
Acts 10:19-21. “While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, ‘Behold, three men are seeking you. Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.'”
No need of a cell phone message through a word of wisdom or knowledge:
.” I Corinthians 12:8. “For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit.” I Corinthians 2:9-10. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.”
If you have receive a card, gift, or word from someone who did not know what you were going through and it touched your life so deeply because you knew they didn’t know but God did, is not that communication faster that a cell phone or earthly devise. Thank God for HIS Holy Spirit whose communication is always for GOOD.
My thoughts here is how can I better communicate with diverse age groups. Scientists Robert Putnam and David Campbell, in their book, ‘American Grace’, argue that the religious Right’s politicization of faith in the 1990s turned younger, socially liberal Christians away from churches,
even as conservatives became more zealous. The dropouts were turned off by churches’ Old
Testament condemnation of…”
Decade to Decade…how have I changed? How do I communicate with God, family, friends and strangers. Has my communication shown value or any fruit to compensate the task?
“How do I communicate with God, family, friends, and strangers. Has my communication shown value or any fruit to compensate the task?” Good question, Sara.
I agree with you .. When I think about the reality that all my communication is measured, words are powerful, each word brings life or death to someone or something…it is sobering. If what I have communicated does not glorify God or bring His wisdom to someone or a situation then the value is ‘idle words’…and each one will have to be accounted for.
When we practice the presence of the God; when we listen to His Spirit constantly broadcasting communication to us….of what to say, how to speak, whom to approach, how to reach them, then we don’t have to be anxious of how to
communicate. UNFORTUNATELY, most of us do not give the Holy Spirit voice in our communications. So our egos gets in the way. Our OPINIONS get in the way. Our prejudices and our impatience hinder us from hearing what the Spirit is saying.
The Holy Spirit is Always speaking, but I am not always listening or hearing what He is saying. Jesus said, “In that day you will not have to worry about what to say because the Holy Spirit will tell you what to speak.” Luke 12:12
This morning Gary, pointed out that when we pray we sometimes say the words of the prayers…[ I paraphrase]”oh God save, Oh God heal; oh God change hearts of so and so and such and such. “But”, he says, “we really don’t think that God
has the power to change or heal or turn around or deliver , etc. We are just mouthing the words and Sara says, “our hearts are far from HIM.”
Our communication to God is garbled at best and how can we think we will get any response from our communique’ to God when we speak or text or write with forked tongue?
“we really don’t think that God has the power to change or heal or turn around or deliver, etc.” MG, look what Sarah Young has for today’s devotion, in her “Jesus Calling” book. “I am calling you to a life of thankfulness. I want all your moments to be punctuated with thanksgiving. The basis for your gratitude is My sovereignty. I am the Creator and Controller of the universe. Heaven and earth are filled with My glorious Presence. When you criticize or complain, you are acting as if you think you could run the world better than I do. From your limited human perspective, it may look as if I’m mismanaging things. But you don’t know what I know or see what I see. If I pulled back the curtain to allow you to view heavenly realms, you would understand much more. However, I have designed you to live by faith, not by sight. I lovingly shield you from knowing the future or seeing into the spirit world. Acknowledge My sovereignty by giving thanks in all circumstances.”
“…it may look as if I’m mismanaging things…” One definition of manage is: ‘To exert control over’. If we think God is mismanaging, than seems to me we must have a real problem with being a controlling person.
Not sure I understand the comments…but using the word mismanaging, controlling, etc. my thoughts are ‘be transformed by the renewing of your mind,…” seems to me we manage, control and live by our minds and its full of power and needs lots of training.
According to Sarah Young, JESUS CALLING – April 21 reading says:
Let me control your mind. The mind is the most restless, unrully part of mankind. Long after you have learned the discipline of holding your tongue, your thoughts defy your will and set themselves up against Me. Man is the pinnacle of My creation and the human mind is wondrously complex. I risked all by granting you freedom to think for yourself. This is god like privilege forever setting you apart from animals and robots. I made you in My image, precariously close to deity.
Though My blood has fully redeemed you, your mind is the last bastion of rebellion. Open yourself to My radiant Presence, letting my Light permeate your thinking. When My spirit is controlling your mind, you are filled with Life and Peace.”
Jumping ahead in the reading – April 22
Thinking on restless mind –
From Sarah Young – “When your mind spins with a multitude of thoughts, you cannot hear My voice. A mind preoccupied with planning pays homage to the idol of control. Turn from this idolatry back to Me and live abundantly!”
I am wondering which way the mind is today – Under God’s control or our control?
True test would be Life and Peace or restless whirlwind mind.
“I risked all by granting you freedom to think for yourself”… just as choosing what we say, sounds like we must choose what we think. What comes through my eye window (what I read) and eargate (what I listen to) seems to influence my thought choices and patterns.
You know, I have been thinking about angels carrying cell phones. maybe BCZ they are trying to copy-cat earthlings. That is not so farfetched, actually….to say that maybe they envy us humans. Even Scripture bears witness to this. For, it says in 1 Peter 1:9-12…
“The reward for trusting Christ will be the salvation of your souls. Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things WHICH THE ANGELS LONG TO LOOK INTO.” See?
The mystery and glory of salvation is for man. There is nothing like it in the universe, nor will there ever be anything like the redemption of mankind by the Lord God Himself. “God so loved the WORLD, (see that, angels? “world” ) that HE gave His only begotten Son to die in our place.” [John 3:16] We cannot really explain it, nor can the angels receive this particular gift of divine compassion and mercy. Only God can KNOW and only man can receive.
But we do respect the angels and all that they do for us under the command of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But, sorry angels….Salvation is for us!
Thinking on the quote above…”A mind preoccupied with planning pays homage to the idol of control”. Maybe a big problem is we plan without seeking or considering that God has a plan for us to fit into.
“I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope.” Jer 29:11
