A Psalm of David. (101 ESV)
”A I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
to you, O LORD, I will make music.
I will ponder the way that is blameless.
Oh when will you come to me?
I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.
A perverse heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil.
Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly
I will destroy.
Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart
I will not endure.
I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in the way that is blameless
shall minister to me.
No one who practices deceit
shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes.
Morning by morning I will destroy
all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all the evildoers
from the city of the LORD.”
As my Nation, USA, traverse through a stinging political presidential cycle my reading, “no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes” gives me a lot of thought. I hear some calling one of our candidates “a liar”. May be true, I don’t know. But, I do know that at times some at my social table setting that so pridefully proclaimed this theory lies themselves many times before the meal is over. Therefore, my question is if this Psalm applies to us today and we have a candidate lying and their opponents being the average voter while accusing the candidate join in by lying about their basic activities of the day, have we built our house on the sand?
“Have we built our house on the sand?” I believe my answer would be yes. Proverbs 6 says: “16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.” Any thoughts on the above scriptures?
Oh, yes, lot of thought on this list of six The Lord hates: 1) haughty eyes -seems to lock in a stare place just prior to number 2) A lying tongue, the tongue goes on with mundane lies while setting a trap for the innocent which is part of the devising wicked schemes. They use their hands to participate in shedding of innocent blood thru many avenues, abortions, money bribes, long list…awe the feet, just stands firm on their lies hoping to distract the hearer so they can lie more against another. And, the 6th is their joy. Gossip, lies to keep the community in turmoil. All six are interconnected through the lush of the flesh…found in 1John 2:16 ” Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16) For all that is in the world — the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not from the Father but from the world. 17The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God remains forever.…” sounds like those (a nation) who live the list of 6 has a house built on the sand.
My thought to your question, Sara, “have we built our house on the sand?” would be it sure seems so. I can build a beautiful sand castle at low tide, but inevitably when high tide comes in, away it washes. The building has no structural integrity.
The psalm you shared above reads very straightforward to me …” no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes. Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land,…” Morning comes each day just like high tide.
I guess the average voter above you write about above can’t make much of a case against allegations that may not even be true of candidate when voters are guilty of the thing they are accusing another about.
I would say, the candidate may be a liar but the voter that is against the lies but lies themselves has no spiritual value in their table talk. Yeap, like a kid with a sand bucket and scoop showing off its mud. You can even build an underground tunnel with your feet while sun bathing and along comes a wave and washes the tunnel out to sea. Reminds me of the strength and power of God found in Rev 19:6 “Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.”
When the Lord judges His people then all will be revealed of lies, half-truths which are lies, embellishments….lies……. with the exception of novels and fairy tales and the proverbial little white lies…. will all be dealt with. This will be a very sad time for many Christians, I pray that the conviction of the Holy Spirit will come upon the church before the end. and we do not know when the end is. For some, it may be tomorrow. So let us repent of fabrications and prevarications for the sake of Heaven. Amen.
