Did the wise owl sing

How majestic is your NAME in all the earth? Did I? Did you? Did we collectively sing with David?🎶

🎶”Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!“
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬-‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Sara, I think your blog directs our gaze upward; to look higher; and to consider God’s majesty, not only with the scripture but with the photo and your words. And with the incredible news story that may make us look at the moon with a different perspective tonight!

You ask some questions: “Did I? Did you? Did we collectively sing with David? And…”did the wise owl sing”.
My bible titled Psalm 8 with, “For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by a stringed instrument.” Sounds like a lot of singing and accompaniment requested!
I don’t know if other adults sang with David, but, according to vs. 2, children and infants did with their praise.

And Job 38:7 says that the stars sang when God laid the foundations of the earth.

Psalm 150: 6 says “ Let every living creature praise the LORD” and Proverbs 8:22 states, “I, wisdom, was with the Lord when he began his work, long before he made anything else.” So, perhaps the wise owl was singing with David also. The beauty of an owl is that they keep up the praise and singing at night, when most of the rest of us have gone to bed.

Lots to think on here about God’s majesty and the questions.

    1. Debi, and abundant more; David blessed the Lord in the sight of all the assembly and said, “Blessed (praised, adored, and thanked) are You, oh Lord;

”Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.“

  2. The footnotes for Psalm 8:1 says:(NIV) “Portions of this psalm are quoted in the New Testament and applied to Christ (1 Corinthians 15:27; Hebrews 2:6-8). God became human- lower than God-in the person of Jesus(8:5), and he will raise all who belong to him when he comes to reign over the new heaven and new earth. Jesus is the only person who perfectly reflects God’s image (Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:15).”

  3. I find the footnotes for Psalm 8: 3-5 Will encourage anyone that may need to be reminded of what God thinks of us? Read with me: (NIV) “When we look at the vast expanse of creation, we wonder how God could be concerned for people who constantly disappoint him. Yet God created us only a little lower than himself and the angels! The next time you question your worth as a person, remember that God considers you highly valuable. We have great worth because we bear the stamp of the Creator. (See Genesis 1: 26,27 for the extent of worth God places on all people.) because God has already declared how valuable we are to him, we can be set free from feelings of worthlessness.” Be encouraged today, knowing how much our Heavenly Father loves and cares for us!🙏💜✝️

    1. Tammy, thank you for adding these scripture thoughts to our study for contemplation. I was struggling a bit in my understanding with the footnote of yesterday, Psalms 8:1 (NIV)

Dig a little deeper! Search and you will find! Matt 7 vs 8 if one seeks (understanding) you will find.

Thank you. I read with you and I am encouraged.

  4. Reading the scripture Tammy asked us to look at in her comment (“See Genesis 1: 26,27 for the extent of worth God places on all people.”), I see that it spoke several times about image… God’s image and how He made us in His image for purpose.

Thinking on image and how we should reflect God’s image, reminded me to go review the chapter on, “Image: The Beauty of Jesus” in Sara’s retreat book, “Dressing for His Glory”. I thought this comment of hers was helpful: “We are beginning our apprenticeship in “The School of Learning” under the tutoring of the Master Teacher – Jesus. We must allow Him through the Holy Spirit to teach us that Excellence is a lifelong process and we must call to remembrance that “He is our source of strength”. Now, let us glory in “The Beauty of Jesus” as we seek to reproduce His image in us by yielding and allowing His Spirit to fill us and lead us.”
The accompanying scripture to this was: “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor 3:18 NKJV”

I also liked reviewing a quote (from one of my favorite authors) from Sara’s chapter titled “Understanding God’s Character – Majestic” (which is really what this blog is about). It reads: “We must practice the art of long and loving meditation upon the majesty of God. This will take some effort, for the concept of majesty has all but disappeared from the human race.” A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy Spirit”

  5. Debi, thank you for sharing the above, from the retreat book and Tozer’s quote. This was especially encouraging to me…” We must allow Him through the Holy Spirit to teach us that Excellence is a lifelong process and we must call to remembrance that “He is our source of strength”. These words…”lifelong process” made me think of a song I learned a long time ago…”He’s still working on me, to make me what I ought to be. It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars, the sun, and earth, and Jupiter and Mars. How loving and patient He must be. He’s still working on me.”🙏✝️🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶

    1. Tammy, thanks for thinking of and sharing that song…a great one to be encouraged by!
I think It goes right along with the scripture verse Sara posted above, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”.
