A Squirrel and their stash

Finding a sweet pepper treasure

My son sent me this little video of the little sweet garden they had helped their daughter design on their balcony. They  had the idea their sweet pepper plant would be safe on their second floor deck.

But, our nature friend came knocking and found comfort in their dinner sweet peppers. They even stored a few for those long cold winter months.

Joy watching the little thief? But, I got corrected on that thought. I was told they need food, too!

(Matthew 6:19-21 TLV) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal.”

“Treasures in heaven” are things of worth in God’s coming kingdom, such as justice, opportunity for everyone to be productive, provision for everyone’s needs, and respect for the dignity of every person.”

God’s Goodness for all! 🙌

  1. Thanks for sharing the video, Sara. The video, your words and the scriptures sure give a lot to think on and consider!

On “I was told they need food, too!”One thought is that it is a lesson in determination by a squirrel working and willing to go to great lengths (and obviously heights) to seek food for the present and preserve it for the future. I think the Bible talks about ants that are wise in that way also in Proverbs 6:6-8… “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.”

“Treasures in heaven” are things of worth in God’s coming kingdom, such as justice, opportunity for everyone to be productive, provision for everyone’s needs, and respect for the dignity of every person.” Back to the ants…Proverbs 30:25 it tells us that “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat (food) in the summer;” Though individually they are weak, yet together, all working, they make an impact. It seems that this scripture on storing “Treasures in heaven” tells us what the best things are, the really important things, and that we should labor towards, seek, store those. And it’s not about one individual but says 3 times ‘every’ (everyone and every person).

And thinking on “God’s Goodness for all!” I am reminded of Proverbs 36:6, “Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD.”

    1. Debi, you have given us some “thoughtful thoughts” to plant in our garden of thought!

Thinking on this blog I thought I really need to sow a garden of thought for me to harvest and preserve for some of my stray thought days.

Why you might ask? Because we were given from God’s Word seeds to plant in our garden of thought. At times I need a reminder to take a leisure walk in the garden. Even if I encounter a squirrel on my stroll!

“Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”

  2. The footnotes for Matthew 6:21 from the NLT says. : “ Jesus made it clear that having the wrong treasures leads to our hearts being in the wrong place. What we treasure, the most controls us, whether we admit it or not. If possessions or money become too important to us, we must re-establish control or get rid of items. Jesus calls for a decision that allows us to live contentedly with whatever we have because we have chosen, eternal values over temporary, earthly treasures.” Definitely something for all of us to remember.🙏

That little squirrel in the video sure was busy about getting his stash 🐿️
