The Rock;

The LORD is my rock Ps 18:2 (photo by Chris Mar)

Have you ever stood watching water just roll over a Rock and thought about the meaning of your Rock? The characteristics of the nature of your Rock?

“Oh, I must find rest in God only, because my hope comes from him! Only God is my rock and my salvation— my stronghold!—I will not be shaken. My deliverance and glory depend on God. God is my strong rock. My refuge is in God. All you people: Trust in him at all times! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our refuge! Selah” (Psalms‬ ‭62‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭CEB‬‬)

The whole earth seems to be reeling from its axis with wars and rumors of wars. Seemly people are busier than ever and stress and anxiety are the password for the days greetings. Why one might ask? Are we trying to make “happiness” from a false sense of peace like trying to make snow flakes from rain?

Read Psalm 62:5-8 again. Rest in God. Trust in Him at ALL times! Pour out your heart before Him. Selah!

  1. WOW! Just WOW! As I pondered the essence of our blog thinking on, “The characteristics of the nature of your [my] Rock?

I then read a Sunday Morning Devotional finding words that seem to be reading my thoughts even before I verbalized them!

“I am asking that you believe the essence of me. I’m inviting you—I am encouraging you—to make a joyful choice to believe the whole truth of me: I am love, pure, holy, infinite, unchanging, merciful, gracious, slow to anger, powerful beyond measure, made perfect in weakness. All of who I am is aimed squarely at all of who you are, all of the time.”

  2. What you wrote, Sara, and then the am devotional you shared that confirmed what you wrote, said to me to sit up and pay attention….God is speaking! … and He is revealing something He wants us to know right now.

The photo by Chris really shows the security and stability of the Rock as the man in the picture won’t sink while standing on the Rock, but would sink if he tried to stand on the water rolling around the Rock.

Psalms 62:5-8 that you asked us to read and re-read, Sara, makes it clear…”Only God”. And as the author of your devotional said, this Rock wants us  “to make a joyful choice to believe the whole truth of me”.

Thank you for the encouragement of this security and Hope and truth about real Peace.

    1. My pleasure Debi to share stories about Jesus and His many attributes.

Selah! Debi what is the meaning of Selah to you? You quoted from a writer, “…this Rock wants us to make a joyful choice to believe the whole truth of me”.

Our scripture focus…Psalm 62:5-8…Rest in God. Trust in Him at ALL times! Pour out your heart before Him. Selah!

I know you like to wrap gifts and make lovely bows. I see “Selah” as your bow in your comments. So explain your bow choice by giving us your definition of Selah!

      1. Sara, you asked,

“Debi what is the meaning of Selah to you?”… So explain your bow choice by giving us your definition of Selah!”

When I see ‘Selah!” in the bible, I have thought it meant to pause, stop, consider, reflect; show praise about what was just written before you move on because it is something especially important and significant.

“this Rock wants us to make a joyful choice to believe the whole truth of me”… I can’t make a responsible choice unless I know things about what I am choosing. The whole truth about Jesus, the Rock, is a lot of truth; so it takes some stopping, pausing, searching, consideration to learn about the truth in order to make a joyful choice to Believe.

  3. Psalm 62:5-8 and the devotional shared above is comforting to me. Knowing that we have a Heavenly Father that we can trust at all times, He is “love, pure, holy, infinite, unchanging, merciful, gracious, slow to anger, powerful beyond measure, made perfect in weakness. All of who I am is aimed squarely at all of who you are, all of the time.”
After reading this blog, I just had to reiterate some of the above……As I sat in my recliner, quietly thinking and looking at my Christmas tree lights, I thought about what Sara said above..about busier than we should be, anxiety, stress… and I was reminded of the recent sermon I heard at church. Mary, Jesus’ mother must have experienced some of the anxiety and stress, when the angel visited her??🤔 A young virgin woman, pledged to be married to Joseph, and is visited by the angel that tells her she is favored and is chosen to be with the Christ child. But, what does she say to Gabriel? She said,(KJV Luke 1:38) “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” I believe Mary trusted God, I believe Mary found rest in God only 🙏

    1. Tammy, beautiful photo image you have given us as you reclined and kept your eyes on the *1) Light of the world and allowed your mind and heart with your relaxed body posture to receive and share in the *2)birthing of Love.

Tammy says, she believes Mary trusted God and that Mary found rest in God. *3) So does Tammy trust God and find rest in him. As Tammy shared her story we see she is one of the lights on her tree. Continue to shine bright, Tammy, by sharing and “letting Love Grow” Jesus is the light birthed in you, me and all that believe! We are loved!

*1) “Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ ‭CEB‬‬)

*2)“The person who doesn’t love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭CEB‬‬)

*3)“Only in God do I find rest; my salvation comes from him.” (Psalms‬ ‭62‬:‭1‬ ‭CEB‬‬)

      1. I was studying an Advent devotional lesson this am and this was my question to think on and answer today.

        Q. ”What are some distractions for you? How might you let go of these distractions and relax into God’s loving, peaceful presence this Advent season?”

        A. Part I …distraction, – stress, anxiety…

Part B…let’s just join Tammy…”I sat in my recliner, quietly thinking and looking at my Christmas tree lights, I thought about what Sara said above..about busier than we should be, anxiety, stress… and I was reminded of the recent sermon I heard at church.”

As we have entered the 2024 Advent Season and; being a part of the Body of Christ, we weave a tapestry of magnificent design and Color sharing the Birth of Jesus of Nazareth, Messish, Savior of the world, Lord, King, Priest, judge, light, love, mercy and grace.

You and I are the light that lights the Beauty of this Magnificent tapestry so others can see! 💡

      1. “Does this weave with your thoughts on Selah!”

Oh, yes! what a beautiful story about the minister who practiced, “Selah” and gave the world this carol. I agree with the pastor on the video…”I think these are the best words we can pray at Christmas”.
