Be Still

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Be Still

  1. Thank you, Sara, for sharing this commanding word from God for this day/this time and the picture and the calming photo telling us to “Be Still”.

As I stopped to gaze at the photo and read Psalm 36, I noticed a couple of things. After affirming who God is, the Psalm then said ‘though’ several times…though this happens and that happens, this moves and that shakes…God has His river, His place that, like Him, will not move. If it does not move, then it must be still. And maybe that is one reason He tells us to be still…so we can be a part of that.

I noticed there were 3 “Selah’s” in the Psalm…telling us to pause and reflect on what He just said to us.

God must talking to us. Thank you providing an opportunity for us to listen.

    1. Debi. Could you explain a little more about the river as you see it? Is the river in the City of God? “There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.”

You wrote; “God has His river, His place that, like Him, will not move.” Im tying to understand the analogy of your teaching.

      1. “Debi. Could you explain a little more about the river as you see it? Is the river in the City of God? “

Yes, Sara, and yes it is the river in Psalms 46:4-5 NKJV. I wrote above that I was reading Psalm 36 and referenced that, but meant to write Psalm 46.

From my limited understanding, I see God’s river as His very Life, His fullness, His presence. This river won’t be removed or be carried away like the earth and mountains spoken of in Psalm 46: 2,3.

Revelation 22: 1,2 also talks about this river with the water of life.

      2. Thank you Debi! Very interesting! I read this from a commentary. Do you think this covers your River comment? “God as a refuge and strength: The opening verse establishes God as a secure place to flee to during times of trouble, providing both strength and refuge. Imagery of chaos and calm: The psalm uses imagery of natural disasters like earthquakes and floods to represent chaos, but contrasts it with the image of a “still river” symbolizing God’s peace and stability.”

  2. Be Still; I was asked by a four year old for a photo of myself. She had earlier given me a “preschool” photo of herself. And, I of course delighted in this gift. I smiled from within wondering when a teenager would she look back and smile about the four year old smiling little girl in this photo. Most of us know that feeling!

I kinda of laughed about her wanting me to give her a photo of myself. It just happened to be Christmas and the new year approaching. We often think of how we might just do things differently or new.

I added a photo as a gift on my list. How would I do this today in my iPhone click and run. No dark rooms! Just click any old thing and run.

I talked with Debi about this as she had a printer and photo paper to print a photo. I started looking for a little frame with suggestions from Debi. We thought we found a photo and a frame! Nope after various tries the cut paste photo DIY just didn’t compliment the frame in any way.

Maybe just not a good photo for this type of frame. We might need to reevaluate frames and find another photo. Be Still…

    I just wanted to give my granddaughter a keepsake.  Well, she asked me for a photo. My own thinking in blog and song became a reality, “Be Still and know that I Am God…🎶 A prayer became my reality;

”Holy Spirit guide this project and all projects that each of us endeavor to do.

We need pure hearts, steady hands and sense of purpose that you have freely given to your children for such a time as this. Skill without love is without purpose. The sacrificial blood shed by Jesus is love without skill. Heavenly Father, Your Word working in us through the Holy Spirit enables us through faith to *love others just as you have loved us. We need to follow your guidelines in action to be a part of healing in our lives, families and communities. It’s each of us being a part and making adjustments until we hear the words, by this* everyone will know…thank you Holy Spirit for guiding us to be still, yet know just what, how and when to do! You truly are a “New Year” Hope for each of us when we are still enough to hear.” Sara ‘s prayer and 2025 hope list.

*Leviticus 14:14-17 records that blood from the trespass offering and then oil were to be placed on the tips of the right ear, right thumb, and right big toe
*Matthew 19:24 “I’ll say it again-it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of A needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!” Note that He says “a” needle, not “the” needle.

John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 *By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

  3. I have thought, read and prayed about the words. “Be still and know that I am God.” Various scriptures have developed in my triangle. A very pivotal one. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV – “For I (God) know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Nice thought! Nice read! Prayed about? A bit harder because it closes my triangle without the answers I wanted in my timing. I want a square where I get to rule.

God knows the answers! I just need to do the “little things.” I just reread the 3 scriptures in comment above: Oil on an ear, thumb and big toe! Ouch! And, just the tips of? 2) Camel sliding through the Eye of a Needle! Makes me think I need an ego shrink! 3) love others like Jesus loves me! Hum! Now that lights a fire! A commandment! That’s the key you have a commandment. Hold up bucky mule, a name I give myself at times like this! “You’re no expert in this because why aren’t others in the public square shouting about how we in the church all love one another?” I do know enough to know God’s church in not me and my few!

  4. Sara, you stated and then asked above: “I read this from a commentary. Do you think this covers your River comment?”

Yes! Thank you for sharing that commentary and the author’s contrast of chaos to “God’s peace and stability.”
