Mother-in-Law/Daughter-in-Law

Most of us (women) can understand what it means to be a daughter-in-law and/or Mother-in-law. It evokes humor in the comedians. All too many times we see pain in the face and heart of the in-law, being daughter or mother. Sometimes joy, sometimes angry but many times jealousy and or resentment in the heart.

God honors the family in many ways and speaks of each and every family relationship. But, we so often look to TV sitcoms, soaps or comedians to give us a map to relationships including our in-law relationships.

So many times I wonder what God is thinking about all this. I am speaking mostly of Americans since I only see America TV.

Most of us have read the story of Naomi and her two daughter-in-laws Orpah and Ruth. We many times inscribe the following scriptures in our wedding rings and Bibles and want so much to live out this story. Or, I should say the life of Ruth noContinue reading “Mother-in-Law/Daughter-in-Law”

Roses: Good Food?

If you would like to add some variety to your diet try this:
Does anyone have any good recipes for these?

Flower Power

Eating flowers may seem strange at first, but really people have been doing it since ancient times. They belong to an old heritage of recipes – used in flower waters for flavoring cakes, or for adding delicate flavors to jams and jellies. Today we use them in teas or as a garnish for desserts. Flowers can provide a stunning visual enhancement in leafy green salads and add decidedly bold or subtle flavors to many dishes.

Before you nibble, please remember that not all flowers are edible! If not purchasing flowers marked as edible in produce departments or farmer’s markets, always check your flower selections with a botanical authority before eating. Don’t eat flowers purchased from florists and, in many cases, even wildflowers. Unless labeled as “organic,” theContinue reading “Roses: Good Food?”

Happy Valentine’s Day

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; loving someone deeply gives you courage. Lao Tzu

February always brings thoughts of Love while we find ways to celebrate a special day that is set-aside on the 14th day of February to let others know how much we care.

When we read and study the works of the Apostle Paul and others we find there is a struggle to love and to be loved. Yet, it is the number one thing God is looking for.

He starts with His church. There is where the problem starts. Yes, the church! Why, because we seemly spend more time on our disagreements than we do on our agreements. Our disagreements when focused on become a wall, a mountain, and a pain.

We have our favorite scriptures that are made in heaven and written in law just for others and of course not for ourselves.

God has given each of us a gift or gifts and we are encouraged to use our Continue reading “Happy Valentine’s Day”

Similies about Friendship from 5th graders point of view:

Friendship is like a:

Cloud soft and sensitive, if you make wrong choices you might lose it, like when a storm comes
Pencil, because sometimes the tip breaks off and a friendship ends
Bee because it takes a lot of work to make honey / sweetness in friendship
School because in friendship you learn a lot about your friend and it takes times to learn.
Charm bracelet because it represents stages and experiences that friends may go through
Scrapbook because the pictures represent experiences, good and bad, friends may go through
Cookie because it is sweet, warm, and if you let it crumble or eat it, the friendship goes away. You can keep on adding to it and make it bigger and bigger, thus more sweetness and more warmth and comfort.
Tree because if you don’t take care of it by fertilizing and nurturinContinue reading “By Mrs. O’s 5th grade class”

Valentine Roses

There’s no flower quite like a rose to say I love you’ on Valentine’s Day. And sometimes there’s no greater disappointment than to see that beautiful rose head droop a day or two later. If you are the fortunate recipient of a rose this Valentines’, here’s a few tips that may keep them looking beautiful longer.

Boxed long-stem roses generally require that you remove them immediately from their box. If they have filled water pics (they look kind of like little test tubes) on the end of their stems and you plan on keeping them in a cool area above 32 F, you may leave them boxed without harm for several hours or another day. When ready to remove them, have a clean vase or container ready to arrange them in to which you have added warm (110 F) water and a floral conditioner. If you do not have a pre-packaged floral conditioner you may substitute thContinue reading “Valentine Roses”

Follow up to my story “Torn and tied in Love – God’s Tapestry” under teaching

When Katrina hit our area, our school among many others in our area have
been touched by the outpouring of schools across the country reaching out to
touch us here in Louisiana. The fifth grade classes at our school have been
touched by Cool Springs Elementary in Leesburg. At first we received boxes
of supplies like paper supplies, colored pencils, pencils, note pads,
staples, paper clips, Expo markers, and stuffed animals for the kids. We
thought Christmas had come. Shortly there after we received gift cards to
go and buy our own supplies. I purchased so many supplies for the teachers
that it took my whole class to unload the supplies. The students then
joyously presented the items to the other teachers in the fifth grade. A
couple of weeks passed and the school and the school’s supplier ofContinue reading “Schools helping Schools”

Hatching Chicks

Just to let you know where I have been for a few weeks.

Needles and I tried a science project for one of Needles two sons (tadpoles for the other one) with some of my chicken eggs. We didn’t admit that we were so inexperienced at hatching chicks. Maybe even more so than the little scientist.

I’ve been extremely busy, birthing chickens. WOW, what an experience. Needles and I have learned so much. One of the things we learned was we ARE NOT VETS. Well, the baby chicks didn’t have a very good survival rate. They needed to hatch while Needles was at work. Bad timing.

They couldn’t break out of their shell. When a baby chicken is ready to hatch, they will start chirping through the eggs. That lets the hen know to help the baby chick by pecking the egg so the baby chick can hatch. My eggs are extremely hard because of the calcium I feed my chickensContinue reading “Hatching Chicks”
