Gary and I have been in North Carolina on a short but sweet retreat. We had the great pleasure to meet and dine with Needles and Chicken- farmer and their families. And, we did have more than eggs but no fried chicken!
We had great fun with the children and the game boys. I think I could learn to play with those inspiring teachers.
Now about Needles, she sure is the straight one in our comedy trio. Chicken-farmer clucks and Needle pricks and off we all go a clucking –clucking and chuckling-chuckling.
I did take time to pen a blog of my thoughts on how important it is to have our spirits free. Joy is a vital part within our being giving us strength to live free.
SET MY SPIRIT FREE
(Jeremiah 40:1-6 MSG) “…The captain of the bodyguard singled out Jeremiah and said to him, Your God pronounced doom on this place. God came and did what he had warned he’d do because you all sinned against God and wouldn’t do what he told you. So now you’re all suffering the consequences. BUT, today, Jeremiah, I’m setting you free, taking the chains off your hands. If you’d like to come to Babylon with me, come along. I’ll take good care of you. BUT, if you don’t want to come to Babylon with me, that’s just fine, too. Look the whole land stretches out before you. Do what you like. Go and live wherever you wish. If you want to stay home, go back to…Judah. Stay with your people. Or go wherever you’d like. It’s up to you.”
Are you any different than Jeremiah?
Does God allow others to keep you in chains?
Are you indecisive?
Are you fearful to make a decision? Where to live, where to go or whom to go with?
As we read this account, the city of Jerusalem had been captured because of its disobedience against God. And Jeremiah, a prophet of God, had been captured with the city. But, not for long because God showed up and released Jeremiah from the bondages and set him free.
Jeremiah 36:3,7 gives us the account of how Jeremiah had appealed to God on their behalf for the Nation’s freedom, but as we learn they did not want to be free.
Free moral agency of man—the ability to choose
Isaiah, another great prophet of God, gave us another riveted account of our ability to choose, make a decision, and decide how, when, where?
Isaiah 1:18-20 vs. l “Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord…” In these scriptures we are given a great choice, and we have been given the ability to make decisions each and every moment of our lives. We reason as to all we do. And, we know by our decision what the outcome will be. We choose that outcome. It is what we want.
I fully understand that within reason this subject is way to big for a moment on a blog. But, I also understand that it is the beginning of freedom, being free, born free, and living free.
Reason, the main reason we make a decision is because we have faith to believe that if we do such and such, such and such will be the result. For instance, Isaiah vs. 19 of chapter one goes on to say “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. But if you refuse and rebel, the sword shall devour you. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
That is your choice, which is my choice, which is the choice. Now which choices do you, do I, does my nation, choose to make?
Is there an area of your life today that you wear a shroud, on a journey to hide, secrecy, fear, rebellion, addiction, self-pity, pride, arrogance or other? There are just so many areas of life that we shroud in a protective covering to protect others or ourselves.
I have seen times that we like our shroud, in our favorite color, with a sweet or sour flavor and giving a fragrance of our choice just to hide the bondage of our spirit. Maybe we should ask ourselves the following questions?
What color is my shroud?
What season is my shroud?
What flavor is my shroud?
What fragrance does my shroud give?
(Philippians 3:14-16 MSG) The Apostle Paul records for us, “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.”
The apostle Paul has such wonderful wisdom from his own disquieted journey of life that we might glean a roadmap to unveil and reveal and renew our spirit that we will be truly free. For when we were born anew in the Spirit of a Holy God we were born free.
Today, let us choose to live free as well.
