Set My Spirit Free

Gary and I have been in North Carolina on a short but sweet retreat. We had the great pleasure to meet and dine with Needles and Chicken- farmer and their families. And, we did have more than eggs but no fried chicken!

We had great fun with the children and the game boys. I think I could learn to play with those inspiring teachers.

Now about Needles, she sure is the straight one in our comedy trio. Chicken-farmer clucks and Needle pricks and off we all go a clucking –clucking and chuckling-chuckling.

I did take time to pen a blog of my thoughts on how important it is to have our spirits free. Joy is a vital part within our being giving us strength to live free.

SET MY SPIRIT FREE

(Jeremiah 40:1-6 MSG) “…The captain of the bodyguard singled out Jeremiah and said to him, Your God pronounced doom on this place. God came and did what he had warned he’d do because you all sinned against God and wouldn’t do what he told you. So now you’re all suffering the consequences. BUT, today, Jeremiah, I’m setting you free, taking the chains off your hands. If you’d like to come to Babylon with me, come along. I’ll take good care of you. BUT, if you don’t want to come to Babylon with me, that’s just fine, too. Look the whole land stretches out before you. Do what you like. Go and live wherever you wish. If you want to stay home, go back to…Judah. Stay with your people. Or go wherever you’d like. It’s up to you.”

Are you any different than Jeremiah?
Does God allow others to keep you in chains?
Are you indecisive?
Are you fearful to make a decision? Where to live, where to go or whom to go with?

As we read this account, the city of Jerusalem had been captured because of its disobedience against God. And Jeremiah, a prophet of God, had been captured with the city. But, not for long because God showed up and released Jeremiah from the bondages and set him free.

Jeremiah 36:3,7 gives us the account of how Jeremiah had appealed to God on their behalf for the Nation’s freedom, but as we learn they did not want to be free.

Free moral agency of man—the ability to choose

Isaiah, another great prophet of God, gave us another riveted account of our ability to choose, make a decision, and decide how, when, where?

Isaiah 1:18-20 vs. l “Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord…” In these scriptures we are given a great choice, and we have been given the ability to make decisions each and every moment of our lives. We reason as to all we do. And, we know by our decision what the outcome will be. We choose that outcome. It is what we want.

I fully understand that within reason this subject is way to big for a moment on a blog. But, I also understand that it is the beginning of freedom, being free, born free, and living free.

Reason, the main reason we make a decision is because we have faith to believe that if we do such and such, such and such will be the result. For instance, Isaiah vs. 19 of chapter one goes on to say “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. But if you refuse and rebel, the sword shall devour you. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

That is your choice, which is my choice, which is the choice. Now which choices do you, do I, does my nation, choose to make?

Is there an area of your life today that you wear a shroud, on a journey to hide, secrecy, fear, rebellion, addiction, self-pity, pride, arrogance or other? There are just so many areas of life that we shroud in a protective covering to protect others or ourselves.

I have seen times that we like our shroud, in our favorite color, with a sweet or sour flavor and giving a fragrance of our choice just to hide the bondage of our spirit. Maybe we should ask ourselves the following questions?

What color is my shroud?
What season is my shroud?
What flavor is my shroud?
What fragrance does my shroud give?

(Philippians 3:14-16 MSG) The Apostle Paul records for us, “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.”

The apostle Paul has such wonderful wisdom from his own disquieted journey of life that we might glean a roadmap to unveil and reveal and renew our spirit that we will be truly free. For when we were born anew in the Spirit of a Holy God we were born free.

Today, let us choose to live free as well.

  1. Not only is this inspirational, it is motivational. I see in what you have written that the “shroud” some of us live behind is the bondage we CHOOSE (as Sara says) that allows us to be insulated from the TRUTH and from our “authentic self”. (See previous blogs on TRUTH by Sara.
In THROWING YOUR LIGHT FORWARD, Sara writes…”In our relationships, friendships and fellowships we will throw LIGHT forward if we focus outward to one another and on our goals.” Our shrouds obfuscate & cause us to function in darkness. BUT… We want to be the children of LIGHT. If we continue to dwell beneath the shroud it well may become our burial cloth that hides us away from all relationships & the resposibility of making choices, no matter how difficult some may be. In that very thing we exercise FREEDOM. The Word of GOD says….”Whom the SON has set free is free INDEED!” John 8:38 (paraphrased)

    1. That “fresh farm air” sure seems good for the complexion!!!
What a trendy trio. Or is it the “heavenly” shining forth? The beauty on the inside, shining through on the outside…throwing the glowing….THROWING YOUR LIGHTS FORWARD.

      1. MG thanks for your kind words.Just to let you know not all the air on the farm is fresh. Especially around the chicken coop.

      2. Yeah, CF!!! And I bet the Fragrance coming from those famous MOO COWS ain’t exactly CHANEL #5, either. Well, it must be that the LORD made you all beautiful on HIS own and we can’t chalk it up to THE BARNYARD AIR!! The WORD does says He makes all things beautiful in His time.
        GOOD JOB, LORD!!

  2. The depth of this article is sending me back to take a good look at myself and re-study your book, “The Dance of Healing – The Ultra-Healing Spirit Comes from Within” to help me try to answer your questions.
You tell us in this book that we can “choose your partner and prepare to dance…life or death – fruit or poisons”. You say in II Cor 2:14-17 that ‘through us Christ diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”
Apparently my choices determine whether I wear a shroud with a peculiar smell or give off Light accompanied by His wonderful fragrance. Seems GN’s produce the former and GP’s the latter and if I want to be truly free I better keep in step and dance with the right partner…the ‘Ultra-Healing Spirit’.
Thanks for this soul-searching article and the hope to be really free.

  3. “Joy is a vital part within our being giving us strength to live free”….Sara this is what Chicken Farmer and Needles bring as well as do you into my being…I cant wait to read what each one writes because it gives and brings such joy to me within my being and oh a good gut laugh and Godly given wisdom makes my day so much more free…because it is filled with joy…thankyou..and by the way..Chickenfarmer sure doesnt look like a chickenfarmer….No straw hat or bucket of feed….and beautiful blonde hair…not what my mind pictured…..ha ha…All three are lovely blessings of joy…dj

    1. I took my straw hat off for the picture. The bucket and feed were in the van with the chickens and the cows. They like to ride around in back of the truck. Some people take their dogs for a ride, but I take my chickens and cows for a ride. They enjoy site seeing. Needle’s stays home and watches the eggs, waiting for them to hatch. She’s a better hen than my hens. Man, but when they get big, she won’t touch them. I tried to tell her that she’s bigger than they are. I’m still working on her. She’ll get there!!

  4. Thank you for such a beautiful article. All three of you look so joyful and free and weave a beautiful tapestry. I just came from a beautiful wedding where the pastor had the couple turn and look at all the people who had come. He told them that they had touched each of the lives there and that in turn their lives had been touched by each. He continued to say that marriage was an extension of this, an involvement with the people. He said that Jesus had called us together because we together could work more effectively for HIM together. He told the couple that he had seen their struggle, seen them fall, and seen them stand for Jesus time and time again. May we always seek to be free and to stand to help others, not in a shroud, but in “living color” instruments for Jesus. All we have to do is ask as I John 5:14-15 says: This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.” Therefor we ask to be free, “living color” instruments for Jesus.

    1. Rena, this is a wonderful blog. I loved the story about the wedding and the joy and the struggles. We all go through stuggles in this life, but the way we handle it and carry ourselves through the hard times speak louder than words.I try to have joy on my face no matter what I’m going through. It’s not easy at times.I don’t want others to look at me and say, look at this girl. She states she is a Christian and she’s falling apart, just like me.I want people to look at me and say, I know she’s going through some tough times, but look at the joy on her face. Man, I want what she’s got, so I can get through my tough times. I want to believe in her God. That’s why no matter how down and out I am, I’m going to try to smile and be pleasant to everyone, that I come in contact with. I want people to see Jesus in me at all times. I haven’t mastered this completely, but I’m trying.

      1. I had the opportunity to meet Wendy this week and she does show Jesus in her face. I wrote a song some years ago “Waiting Room” and it goes like this “as I look I see His face shining as a glory of grace.” I saw Wendy’s face as a glory of grace just like I see Jesus.

Thanks for sharing Jesus through your countenance.

    2. Oh yes thanks, I like to think “I am in living color.” I never did like black and white TV, I like color TV better. Just to think we are in living color when we live free. Thank You God for our beauty.

  5. In this blog you discuss reason. I think in todays world everyone wants you to think and reason everything out. This can be good and this can be bad. I think we not only need to reason things out but to accept the word of God. If the Bible says something, we need to accept it regardless of the reasoning behind it. I think sometimes we reason ourselves out of the truth. We as Christians aren’t suppose to understand everything in God’s word. We must pray for understanding and pray for the will to accept his word. When and if God wants you to understand something you’ve been studying, he will reveal it to your heart. In my heart, I think we need to pray for acceptance of God’s word and obidence to his will and reasoning for this if that is God’s will. If I feel God’s put something on my heart, I will do my best to do this, even if I don’t understand why. God sees the whole picture and I’m just looking through a small keyhole.

    1. That’s a good word, Chickenfarmer!! Obedience is better than sacrifice, says the Word of GOD.The BIBLE tells us not to lean to our own understanding but in everything acknowledge the LORD. I guess it’s easier said than done; like…”I am just going to try this my way, ONE MORE TIME……”. But HE will bring it to pass HIS WAY!! WAITING IN HIS ROOM until we get the answer is what trips us up. Most of us don’t want to WAIT for the answer. We just take off, do it our way, say we’ve heard from God and then have the AUDACITY to ask GOD to bless it,anyway. BEEN THERE! DONE THAT!!

    2. As I pondered the above thoughts (Wendy’s Comments) in my heart during the night season, I could only think of King Saul. God spoke to the prophet Samuel and instructed him to speak to the King in I Samuel 15:23 “Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,He also has rejected you from being king.

Message reads like this: “Not doing what God tells you is far worse than fooling around in the occult. Getting self-important around God is far worse than making deals with your dead ancestors. Because you said No to God’s command, he say No to your kingship.” and vs. 22 says”..God wants you to listen to Him! Plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production.”

Wendy, you sure “hit the nail on the head” “pray for understanding and the will to accept His Word… acceptance of God’s word and Obedience.”

If God says it then we have no choice but to obey ie if we choose life and not death. I pray for all of us today that we will be obedient to God and His Holy Word. Just think because of disobedience the King lost his kingship over Israel. If he had obeyed God things might even be different in Israel today. Our disobedience to God affects more than ourselves it affects those around us and maybe generatons to come.

  6. THE DEFINITION OF FREEDOM:
THE CONDITION OF BEING FREE FROM RESTRAINTS
LIBERTY OF THE PERSON FROM SLAVERY, DETENTION, OR OPPRESSION
EXEMPTION FROM AND UNPLEASENT OR ONEROUS CONDITION(FREEDOM FROM WANT)
FREE WILL(CHOOSE GOD HE IS IN CONTROL)
THE RIGHT TO UNRESTRICTED USE; FULL ACCESS:(THIS IS GODS CHOICE WE ARE HIS CHILDREN)
THE RIGHT OF ENJOYING ALL OF THE PRIVILEGES OF “MEMBERSHIP” (FOLLOW HIS WORD WE WILL ALL ENJOY THE BLESSING’S OF HEAVEN)
THE RIGHT OR THE POWER TO ENGAGE IN CERTAIN ACTION WITHOUT CONTROL OR INTERFERENCE (KEEP GOD IN YOUR LIFE PRAY, AND SPREAD THE WORD)
I HAVE LEARNED FREEDOM AFTER MOVING TO NORTH CAROLINA. I WAS BLESSED WITH THE 3 GREATEST WOMEN I HAVE EVER MET!!!!!!!!!!(NEEDLES, COWMILKER AND SARA)
GOD HAD SET ME FREE FROM THE BONDAGE I WAS LIVING IN. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I MOVED FOR MANY MONTHS, THINGS WERE NOT GOING THE WAY I PLANNED. HOWEVER COWMILKER CAME TO PRAY WITH ME ONE NIGHT AND TOLD ME GOD WANTS YOUR FULL ATTENTION, AT FIRST I DID NOT UNDERSTAND HER BUT SHE CONTINUED TO PREACH TO ME. SHE WENT ON TO SAY THAT SOMETIMES GOD WILL TAKE EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE AWAY FROM YOU TO GET YOUR FULL ATTENTION. GOD HAS LEAD ME DOWN THE PATH OF FREEDOM, I LEFT IT IN HIS HANDS. JEREMIAH TALKS ABOUT GOD TAKING THE CHAINS OFF HIM AND ASKING HIM ONCE AGAIN TO FOLLOW HIM. GOD GAVE ME THE SAME CHANCE. I WAS SUFFERING THE CONSEQUENCES AND HE PUT HIS HAND OUT AND SAID TURST IN ME AND I WILL SHOW YOU THE WAY. I DID AND NOW I’M HERE. I’VE WORN MANY OF SHROUDS ANY THING TO COVER THE PAIN I WOULD NOT LET GOD HEAL. I KNOW WITH GOD ALL THING ARE POSSIBLE ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS LET HIM. IT MAY NOT BE TOMARROW BUT HE ALWAYS LISTENS AND I ALWAY HAVE SAID THINGS WILL BE DONE IN GOD’S TIME. I HAVE WAITED MANY OF YEARS AND GOD DID AS HE HAD ALWAYS PROMISED HE ANSWERED MY PRAYER’S. I’M FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS EVERY ONE.

    1. We all thank God for friends that will pray with us and for us. What a Blessings.

Your comments reminds me to remind myself of Galatians 5:1 Message “Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.” NKJ”….do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

I like when we let “God heals we can take the shroud off.” I thank God for His love, compassion, care and mercy to us.

    2. WOW!! What a testimony, Jersey! It is soooo true that “whom the SON sets free is free, indeed.”

I had been raised a Catholic and when I went through a “liberation” by the Spirit of the living God and the chains started to fall off, it was like a huge burden had been lifted from my shoulders; a gigantic weight flown off. When I was Born Again, I had found such a glorious relationship with the LORD and such liberty did I find in a personal Christ!! And as I grew in the Lord I began to see that there was some residue left from my PRE-CHRISTIAN days from which I still needed deliverance. I couldn’t see it clearly for I was still in deception. DECEPTION, especially Self- deception is a great threat to the CHRISTIAN walk. But the WORD of GOD clearly stated the principles and teachings of Jesus on how I was to conduct my life if I were to follow HIM and be obedient to His call on my life. I had made some excuses for continuing in some certain instances in the way I HAD BEEN BEFORE….but by the SPIRIT of GOD and anointed counseling by GOD’S servants my eyes were opened and I saw what had been deceiving me for that time since my conversion. I thank God through prayer and obedience and a few hard changes the LORD delivered me completely from the hindering false spirit of deception to be able to stand before HIM in this situation and be totally free from the sin that so beset me. THANK YOU LORD JESUS for YOUR great sacrifice on the CROSS that through the obedience to FATHER GOD that YOU showed on the cross I am taught obedience to the WORD of GOD and deliverance that YOU provided for me by Your Precious BLOOD!!

      1. What you share MG and relating to Jersey’s freedom makes me think of a seed sprouting. How many times when germinating seeds in the greenhouse I have watched the process but am now just thinking of it in this light. First a seed with a hard outer coat (or shroud) is put in the dark soil. Then the water (of the Word) and warmth (of God’s love) softens that coat and cracks it. The life within the seed pushes out and breaks into the Light above the darkness. But then I often see something funny looking. As the ‘seed leaves’ push upward the new seedling’s ‘head’ is still covered by the old broken seed coat and is wearing it like a hat (or shroud). However it doesn’t take many days before the seedling has gained strength from the Light and nourishment of the sun (Son)and it throws that old dead coat off because its first pair of ‘true leaves’ has developed and now it is a real plant.
Thanks to both for sharing their growth experiences.

      2. God’s nature is so amazing to me. My Mother would tell me that if you understand nature you will understand God better. It has taken the likes of some of you in your experiences with nature to show me this truth:

the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth…

  7. Sara,
What an enlightening blog! We have all had times in our life, where we put
on a “shroud”, but thanks be to God we don’t have to keep them on! I am
reminded of the GN part I, where Jesus told the man to “get up, take your
bed and start walking.” (see GN part I) What a wonderful illustration that
Jesus will be there to comfort, guide, and direct us, even if it seems
impossible to remove our shroud. God so freely gave us “the choice” to
choose life and freedom. (KJV) “For God so LOVED the world, that he gave his
only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life.” We MUST be reminded that God is the provider of life
and freedom! Giving your life to Him is the only way to experience TRUE
    FREEDOM!

    1. U R right!!!! Thanks for reminding us not to participate in GN but to take up our beds and walk. WOW how easy it is to slip back into passivity and forget how to be free and stay free.
