I discovered that the Message Bible states in Matthew 12:34, that Jesus says, “It’s your heart and not the dictionary that gives meaning to your words.”
This makes a VERY enlightening point that sheds new perspective on our discussions of “heart and mouth” on thedailylily. I am thinking that from this Scripture….that whatever you MAY THINK that you are thinking in your MIND and trying to say or (THINK that you are saying)..actually..what REALLY ,TRULY is coming out of your mouth is what your HEART, REALLY, TRULY thinks.
So when we examine the fruit of our lips….what we’re saying that is exaggeration, or flattery, or put downs or mockings or bragging or complaining or deception or self- deceiving …and we see the bitter fruit it produces..we must quickly turn to look at our own hearts to find the root of what is causing this rotten harvest and “lay the axe to it.”

At times we sing and speak about lifting up “Holy Hands” unto the Lord. We understand this to mean our hearts and its attitude and our deeds and actions.
I think I get the point here my heart may be speaking louder and in more ways than I might like to think.
Inspiring thought that came this morning: “OUR HEARTS, OUR HANDS AND OUR MOUTHS ARE INEXORABLY AND INTRINSICALLY INTERTWINED AND CONNECTED.” What do you think about that?
MG, thanks for reminding us to “guard our hearts, minds, and words! Jesus also speaks about this in Matthew 15: 16-20…”Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked. “Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer. But the words you speak come from the heart-that’s what defiles you. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.”
That’s good, Tammy. We ought to all have grasped these things by now as GOD’s children…especially after Jesus admonishes His followers time after time in the Gospels. The Proverbs and Psalms and St.Paul also tell us, admonish us and exhort us to watch our words because we will be held accountable for every single idle word that we haven’t truly repented of. Jesus has been washing several of our mouths out with soap, these last few weeks. The taste is awful but the freshness of a clean mouth, pure heart that SPEAKS truth is so refreshing. So keep the bar soap handy, Lord. I want to have good things coming up from my heart into my mouth and out through my lips, so that I can lift up holy hands in praise to GOD and my Hands (and mouth and Heart) will be clean.
MG I was reading in Matthew 12;34-37 and saw that Jesus said out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks….Im really thinking even more now because it makes one wonder…when we say something there sure must be a lot of it in ones heart for it to come out….so we had better be doing like the Dance of Healing taught us….plant some good seed in our hearts so the abundance will be good and the over flow from it out of our mouths will be that praise that Sara spoke of when we lift our hands(hearts/words/deeds)…dj
That’s right, Dorothy. We had better pluck out the tares and weeds that we have allowd to spring up in our hearts and allow the WORD OF GOD to take root in the soil of our hearts and then pray for a quick harvest before we “RUN OUR MOUTHS” and “TALK” ourselves out of GOD’S KINGDOM!!!!
At retreat ’06 ‘Dance of Healing’ we saw that the Harvest (ex: fruit of the lips you speak of MG) is in our soul and that our words either poison or give life. And we saw that Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest and of the Heart. I see it that if we are willing and obedient to allow Him to lead in this dance of thinking and speaking and be that Lord of both Harvest and Heart then we will see a good harvest.
Yes, Debi, this was one of the biggie revelations at DANCE OF HEALING RETREAT ’06 that opened MY eyes and shed new light on what the WORD of GOD was truly saying. We learned that these “sins” are addictions that we hold on to because we think they are PART of us and we would feel unclothed without them…shed of our persons, etc. And they find their life in us by spurting out of our mouths defilements, grieving Holy Spirit and keeping us in a place of no movement in the SPIRIT. And “DANCE’ is correct when it teaches….OBEDIENCE to the WORD….WILLING OBEDIENCE! The will of my flesh has to line up with the will of the SPIRIT….or there’s no invitations, no dance-card filled, no DANCE at all unless it’s dancing with the enemy of our souls.
