Touched my heart

Recently my heart was touched by a lady named Kathy Silverton. Read her story on this link.

When Kathy’s heart was touched by another she founded Stitches From the Heart, a nonprofit organization devoted to creating and sending handmade clothes for premature babies and babies from impoverished families. Every item is created with tender loving care and volunteers sometimes attach their names to the items. We at “The Daily Lily” would like to add our names to worthy cause.

Kathy and her volunteers happily teach people how to knit little clothes for “preemies”. The head of a full-term baby is approximately the size of a grapefruit. But a premature baby’s head is smaller – the size of an orange, or even a lemon. Stitches volunteers knit these tiny hats and also tiny booties, sweaters and blankets.

I have started crocheting and making some of these tiny little hats and booties. (see picture) I would like to invite others of The Daily Lily to join me in making some items for these babies. If you would like to crochet, knit or sew, hats, booties, sweaters, or blankets to add to “The Daily Lily’s” contribution for the babies let us know.

  1. Dorothy it is evident from the beautiful needlework in the above photo that your heart was in every stitch. What you and others are doing for these babies and their families made me think you are doing what Sara’s article ‘Light Another Candle’ talked about… letting your “light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
I pray that many others that have this needlework gift will join in.

  2. We have added a lady from NC w/o computer but has agreed to embroider some little shirts for the babies to send from “The Daily Lily.”

I will do the pick up and deliver as she is able to complete these.

What a very special and rewarding ministry. It is so precious to have you Dorothy with your expertise in handiwork on our team and willing to do. As the book of James points out we need Faith with works. Prov 31:20 “She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.”

You are fulfilling so many scriptures that our hearts yearn to fulfill for our Lord. Thanks for letting me be a small part of this ministry. We can all pray for the special little’ bundle of joy’ that will wear these special items made by you and others participating in The Daily Lily stitchery ministry with Stitches from the Heart.

My family knows just how special these darling beautiful works of art really are as we have shared in many. My family has been very blessed with your hands, May many more throughout the world receive this blessing. Our prayers are that you and your family will be greatly blessed as you reach out to others through The Daily Lily.

    1. Thank you Sara and the Daily Lily ..If it were not for you finding the news article and putting it up and the Daily Lily being in existance none of this would be possible….The Daily Lily is a very vital communication center …it reminds me of all the letters the apostles wrote making up the bible..you can find help and direction and correction.. just by clicking on Daily…dj

  3. Estela from Elsalvador, A lady that works in the Loudoun County Public School System gave yarn towards the making of sweaters hats and booties for the premees.. and today she told me that she has more yarn that she wants to give to make soft booties for the little tiny babies as she wants soft things for them…..God bless and thank you Estela…..dj

    1. Dorothy; you, Estela and others are SOWING your SEWING skills into good soil for the kingdom of God. As Dorcas (Tabitha) has been noted and forever memorialized in the Word of God in Acts 9 36,39, so the good works wrought by your skillful hands will bring forth a glorious Kingdom crop. For the Lord Jesus has said in Matthew 19:14 to allow the little children to come unto Him. And again in Mark 9:36, Jesus said, “Whoeverer shall receive one of such children in My Name, receiveth Me; and who receiveth Me, receives Him Who sent Me.” And He said also that to enter the Kingdom of God one must receive the Kingdom “as a little child.” (Mark 10:15) And through these tiny garments, you are providing protection and comfort for the “little Children” who are being prepared even now, to enter the Kingdom Of God.
May the Lord richly bless you and Sara for her preparatory work and may your harvest be truly GREAT!!!

  4. Oh Dorothy I am thrilled for you. You will be able to cloth those precious jewels for Jesus. You have such a wonderful talent. I also know that each stitch will be wrapped in a prayer. The prayers will embrace each child whom the clothing are given and will affect their lives as they grow into the unique boys and girls that the Lord has designed them to be.
