Update on Uganda

This past weekend I met in Dallas, Texas with the team that is going to Uganda this summer. This was our first indepth planning session. And, my first time to meet most of the team. We sketched out the agenda for our stay. We will be working with the staff of an orphanage and the students for five days.

We were thrilled to see God at work in bringing the talents of the team together to schedule the days while we are there. We also scheduled days of meeting with parents in the Bush to help them work with their
children and to pray for inidividual needs. We will also hold meetings to teach the women how to disciple one another and bring the community together. A few of us got in the picture. Hope to have more later.

I am a novice writer and painter who loves to be creative. I love singing but can't sing without a hymnal, except for children's songs. I love to make up my own songs and love the old hymns. I love to garden and got that love from my Mom and Dad who taught be everything I know from planting to harvesting to canning. I'm happy gardening, walking with my pug, JD Sir Winston Churchill, painting, and crafting. I love to spend Saturday's sitting in my rocker going through a bible study. I love working with elementary school aged children and seeing them use their creative gifts. I have taught Sunday school for a number of years and taught in the public schools for 18 years. I might say I'm retired but I spend most of my time subbing and enjoy it immensely. The kids spark my own creativeness.

  1. Did you find out if you will be taking any special clothing for the children? Will you have need of others volunteering clothing or books for the orphanage’s and the children in the Bush? Will you need contributors for this cause, if so, be specific in ways we can help?
Do they have need of  Bibles? If so, will you need others to contribute to this cause?  I hope the Q&A that I am seeking will be for the purpose of others participating on the team in a way that will be as meaningful to the children as your going.  Some of us hope to be a part of this team in some useful ways by using our gifts whether small or large to be a part.

  2. It is exciting to hear of your recent planning meeting and agenda and the work you will do with the women and children. You mentioned you will be in the Bush. Where is the orphanage located and will you be in other areas of Uganda also?

  3. This is an awsome mission and an awsome Team an arrow of the Lord shot with focus and direct aim…..looking forward to each update and to the answers to the questions that Sara asked about supplies….Lord Jesus please keep and protect this mighty river of women that are about to flow(and already are by the Spirit) to the women and children of Uganda….dj

  4. Vital, inspired Christian women! How BIBLICAL! How Scriptural! It makes my heart race a little like when I read the Book of Acts and consider the boldness, assertiveness and courage in the fabric of God’s anointed messengers of the GOOD NEWS of liberation from bondage and poverty and oppression that is THE GOSPEL. May ALMIGHTY GOD protect and shelter you; give you favor and grace, even more; and may He expand your territory of service for His Kingdom.
We excitedly await word of how/what we can help/contribute to this mission of Jesus’ Heart.

  5. Rena, after re-reading your update I see where you are only working with staff of the orphanage and the students for five days. I understood from your first reports that you and team would be there for 5 weeks. Does this mean you will be 4 weeks in the bush? I understand it is still in the planning stage and you are still seeking God for answers for your part as well as that of the other team members.
Our prayers and thoughts to all of you as you make these very vital spirit-lead decisions.

  6. Rena, This trip is going to be such an awesome experience. I’m so excited for you. A chance of a life time, to go and spread God’s word and love to another country. What a blessing. I can’t wait to hear more.

  7. To all you wonderful Daily Lilies,

I want to let you know that I will not be going to Uganda as planned initially. After taking it to the Lord a second time, I feel that Uganda is not what God wants me to do this summer. I thank all of you who have prayed on my behalf and who have thought how they could help finance this trip. I again thank each of you for your prayers and support.

  8. Rena, this shows real spiritual maturity on your part and a great example for all of us to follow. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” God knows our days, times and places and will guide our steps. There is a time for all things just as the wise man said:

Passage Ecclesiastes 3:1-8: “A Time for Everything”

1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

  9. Hey Mrs. O,

That is a great trip that you are taking! Is there any way you could post “My Teacher the Queen”. I would love to read it. You are a wonderful person.

  10. Dear Alec,
It is great to hear from you. I hope you enjoy the story which was initially “My Teacher the Queen” and which has been changed to “In the Wink”. I pray your Mom is doing well.
