Study with Sara-Moments of Introspection

Dear God, When I read ‘Your Word’ fear ensues. It seems so hard, in the light of living.

Yet, it’s in the Light of Living, one must live ‘The Word.’ It takes real guts to want to obtain the faith of ‘Your Word.”

Titus 1:15 “To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.”

vs. 16 “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him…”

2:1 “But, as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.” 2:7 …in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; (pattern-archetype) in doctrine showing integrity and reverence. vs. 8…sound speech that cannot be condemned…” vs. 10…and ADORN the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.”

I have heard it said many times that introspection can be extremely valuable. When I pause and do a little soul-searching, I find my own introspection(S) can be opposite views (polar) of what I thought I understood about God’s Word. Like vs. 16…they profess to know God, but in works they deny Him…” Is that me?

vs. 15…to the unbelieving nothing is pure, even the mind and conscience are defiled. But, if I am pure, all things are pure. Would I go so far as to call myself pure in all things and really believe it? Do I, at all times, adorn the doctrine of God in all things? Gee, am I living so that my living adorns the doctrine of God, or does it dress pretty tacky at times?

I do believe God has equipped us with everything we need to live a life that will adorn Him, don’t you?

I would like to hear your introspections on ‘living in the LIGHT.’ All things pure and bright!

“And God said, ‘Let there be light’, and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). Let’s be proactive and speak purity into our homes and families. Speak purity and favor over our jobs and the facilities (schools, hospitals, government building, etc.) we work in and those we visit.

  1. “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him”.

“I do believe God has equipped us with everything we need to live a life that will adorn Him, don’t you?”

Hebrews 10:38 “But my righteous one will live by faith.”
James 2: 14 “What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have FAITH but has no DEEDS?”
James 2: 26 “As the body without the spirit is dead, so FAITH without DEEDS is dead.”
1Tim. 6:11 “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and PURSUE righteousness, godliness, FAITH, love, endurance and gentleness.”
2Tim. 2:22 “Flee the evil desires of youth, and PURSUE righteousness, FAITH, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
Gal. 3:11 “The righteous will live by FAITH.”
Please read Hebrews 11:17-38 Verse 39-40…”These were all commended for their FAITH, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”

I’m seeing a word reappear in the above scriptures….it’s FAITH…..also DEEDS. God tells us in first and second Timothy that we must PURSUE FAITH. Now I believe we can substitute “proactive,” for pursue, don’t you? If we read Hebrews 11: 17-38, we can sure see that these people were certainly “proactive” and possessed faith! Lord, help us to remember that “without faith it is impossible to please you,” and “faith without deeds is dead.” Help us to “adorn the doctrine of your Word, in the light of living.”
Thank you, Sara, for helping us to get our “introspection”, in line, with the Word of God.

  2. Needles, I see you have come face to face with ‘introspection.’

I have always understood introspection to be: observation of one’s own mental and emotional processes. So in the light of getting on the mountain and viewing our mental and emotional processes it takes the action of the Word of God to stay intact in mind, body and spirit.

I have surely enjoyed your response. I like pursue for proactive, anyway one see or observe themselves and take action is great.

    Really good thoughts, thanks,

  3. PURE : 1. Unmixed with any other matter. Free from taint. 2. Free from what vitiates, weakens, or pollutes. 3. Free from moral fault: INNOCENT (MERRIAM-WEBSTER)
Psalms 119:9 ” How can a young person stay PURE? By obeying your word.”
Titus 1:15 ” To the PURE all things are PURE, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience defiles.”
Matthew 23:24-26 “Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel! 25 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. HYPOCRITES! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy-full of greed and self-indulgence! 26 You blind Pharisees! First wash the inside of cup and the dish and then the outside will become clean too!”
INTROSPECTION- An examination of one’s own thoughts or feelings. (MERRIAM-WEBSTER)
Our “introspection” may make us believe we are PURE, just like the Pharisees believed they were PURE. Satan distorted their introspection of purity. They didn’t realize at the time they nailed the true “purity” on a wooden cross. Their dishes were clean on the outside but filthy on the inside.
It is hard to live “in the light of the living”. The only way to do this is through our Lord Jesus Christ. He will clean the inside of our dishes making them pure. He will mold our “introspection” so we can examine our thoughts and feelings in true purity. By reading God’s Word, he gives us the instruction we need to build ourselves into the creation he wants us to be. We all get distracted from time to time, but God will help us get back on track and load our dishwashers. If we lose focus and stray away from his direction, we might as well go lay in the mud with the pigs. He will guide us, lead us, cleanse us, give us the strenght we need and he’ll love us forever and ever. He is committed to us and we owe it to ourselves and to our Lord to be committed to him. He will not let us down. So yes, sometimes it is hard on us to “live in the light of the living”. God never promised it would be easy. He did promise he would help us and love us. We just have to take the first step. It’s up to us. We must stay focused!!! Thank You Sara for helping me get out of the mud!!!!

  4. Chickenfarmer said above,” by reading God’s Word He gives us the instruction to build ourselves into the creation that He wants us to be.” I think that’s part of what the scripture is saying in Philippians 2:12 (amp), “Therefore, work out, cultivate, carry out to the goal and fully complete, make perfect (pure) your own salvation with reverential fear, trembling, awe and self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness of temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” I think Paul is discussing a similar idea that Sara has projected concerning introspection and analysis of one’s own attitudes, motives and intents and purposes of the hidden heart. We know salvation comes only by Christ’s shed blood and our accepting of that Faultless Work on the cross, His death and resurrection, which we accept into our own lives. But Paul is saying that we must WORK IT OUT. THE LIGHT of the LIVING exposes things; corruption, greed, envy, lousy attitudes and offenses, defense mechanisms, laziness, rebellious hearts. We know this true because Paul goes on to say in Philippians 2:13-15, (paraphrased)
“Do this “working out” thing, not in your own strength for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you energizing and creating in you the power and desire to will and work for HIS GOOD pleasure and Delight. So, do ALL THINGS without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining against God and questioning and doubting among yourselves. Show yourselves to be BLAMELESS and guileless, innocent, uncontaminated, (PURE) children of GOD, without blemish, faultless, unrebukable, PURE in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation among whom you SHINE AS BRIGHT LIGHTS in the darkness of this world.
We do examine our own hidden man of the heart and vow to the Lord Jesus Christ to attain purity of thought, purpose, devotion, will and attitude. Only Holy Spirit and the the LORD and FATHER can help us WORK THIS OUT!

  5. I can see from reading the passage in Hebrews 11 that Needles asked us to read that it would take great courage to live the kind of faith that those believers did…being sawn in two, tortured, etc for their faith. And yet Rev 21: 2 speaks of a bride that is adorned for her husband (that bride being the bride of Christ) that won’t qualify for the marriage if ‘she’ is cowardly and unbelieving. (Rev 21:8) . And I see being pure as chickenfarmer exhorted us to be, as a necessity to even get to see God (Matt 5:8). “In Your light we see light” (ps 36:9). I see a measuring tape written in God’s word and shared and expounded on as I read The Daily Lily that shows me the pattern to live by. And MG is right…work it is work to live according to the pattern. It takes planning and effort to make the kind of choices that will say as Sara said, “let there be light”.

  6. ….guts is right….just to want to obtain the faith …the faith to even believe one can be pure….and then to face what one sees or knows is on the inside which is not lining up with The Word and is not adorning or showing on the outside the Doctrine of God…… introspection..”ouch”…if it were not for the HOLY GHOST and Gods mercy and grace…I could really get lost in the “introspect checking”…but as you Sara believe…so do I …that God has equipped us with everything we neeed to live a life that will adorn Him….and since the faith that we have is ours only because He gave it to us…I believe we can look inside and see His purity and know that with His help and quidance we will see the pure in things as He sees it…and not as we ourselves would see…..and He is able to change the wind and the tide….how much more us in whom He is living as we yeild to Him…… is hard to live in the light of Living….thats why He sent the Holy Ghost…..Sara I love it when you write things like this … makes you face things….and Needles…you make one want to do good hard research…:)dj

  7. Today’s Show interview with Matt Lauer today. You can read the interview by going to “Today Show.”

Matt was interviewing a young attractive tall looking blond, I think she was college age. She was dressed in the same skirt and top that she had recently worn on an airline trip. She was with her Mom and a lawyer. Her story goes from her that she boarded an airline and was advised by an airline employee that she was dressed inappropriately. She stayed on and covered with a blanket. When she got off she sent her Mom a phone pic and her Mom thought she was fine. She returned the same day on the same airline and was told by an employee then how good she looked.

The lawyers comment was Paris Hilton could of got on with same outfit and they would of rushed her in and offered her a drink. Then they said airline had no dress code.

HUM! What did I think? What would we all say? HUM! Would my personal thoughts and my speaking up in a big audience be two different things. They called it a family airline. Hum, would it be OK if only men were flying and enjoying the beauty. If so, why would it not be OK for children to see what their Dad’s thought to be beauty on a young college girl. “In the light of living” where are we? It takes guts to mediate and find the truth of God’s Word and live it. My fears keep ensuing and acting up!!!!! Fear is starting to remind me of allergies?

  8. its like the Word says…no ones thoughts are as high as Gods and …what seems right to one isnt for another and yes …it does get even my fears to act up….it causes me and I quess others to wonder did we understand what Gods word was even saying about pure? and when checking inside and outside of selves are we really “perceiving and have the right perception”?and then replying in the correct way so as to be a help when even making compliments?….yep I’m back to your other blog along with this one….hard stuff…dj

  9. I suppose we would have to go back to Paul in Philippians 2 to try to figure this one out. We would have to know the intents and motivations of the heart and mind of the young woman, that would manifest her dressing in a particular fashion or style. We would have to be silent observers of souls to see what emotions arise up in those who saw her or had to interact with her both males and females. Would she be offended if one made a blantant remark about her in any sexist fashion? Would she be offended if they DIDN’T??
As said above, only God know the hearts of mankind. “TO THE PURE ALL THINGS ARE PURE~~~~~”
    OH HELP!!!

  10. It seems to me that the one who told the young girl that she was dressed inappropriately was really jealous of the young girls beauty. That is why she was asked to put a blanket around her, so she could cover up her beauty. Who ever gave her a hard time about her dress, really wished that she looked as nice as the young girl. We should be jealous of other people’s beauty. When we have Jesus in our heart and we allow him to work through us, our beauty is overflowing. We are living in a world where outward beauty is so important. This is no reason to be insecure with ourselves. God made each of us unique and beautiful in different ways. So we shouldn’t cover up someone elses beauty with a blanket. Satan would love to cover God’s beauty with a blanket. Live for Jesus, work for Jesus, let Jesus shine through us and be beautiful.

  11. I agree with Needles that it takes FAITH to live a pure life. The DEEDS must be evident of that FAITH in Jesus Christ for we know by our fruits we are known or as MG says we need to work it out. The “pure” as mentioned in Titus 1-15 then, are all who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, who are filled with FAITH, and have had an internal change of heart through the work of God at conversion. All Christians are essentially “pure” because we are all partaking of divine life. (See 1 Peter 1:4.) Although we still have our sinful human natures, the new spiritual life we possess is “pure.” Thus we need a spiritual dishwasher like Sara says to wash the sinful life away. We have to be vigilant and attentive at all times watching for things that would corrupt our lives or old things that haven’t been cleaned off our plates yet. Think goodness as Dorothy says we have the Holy Spirit and the Lord to help us do the cleaning that will lead us down the path of purity, if we listen and act on Their words. With a new perception given to us by the Lord and our acting as Christ would want us to act would result in no more garbage in/ garbage out cycles in our lives. Christ want to clean up and purify us calling us to be vessels of beauty for the purpose He has destined us for. Thus being beautiful as Chickenfarmer says we will “Live for Jesus, work for Jesus, let Jesus shine through us.

  12. Ok, Chickenfarmer was the one that wanted me to wash in the dishwaher. She must have a pot and pan scrubber. 🙂
Yes, Rena, I sure understand the scriptures as written but my point of study is real simple:

Being pure by faith and living pure, (in the light of living). Gee, I just frankly don’t understand pure in the light of God’s Word.

Nations have gone to war over a pure race, a pure people, and prejudices pursue each day and other such things because of purity in our minds as we see (perceive) and in our hearts.

  13. Yes, I don’t understand pure in the light of God’s Word either. God Word is pure and my perception of the Word changes as I seek Him. What I thought once was truth as I perceived it is continually changing. What I perceive today may take on a change tomorrow. God has so much more depth and meaning to His Pure words spoken in the scripture that I am in awe at each revelation and depth revealed by the Holy Spirit. I thank the Lord that He sent His Holy Spirit to teach us. May he contiually help us perceive truth from the Word of God.
