During the preparation for Hurricane Earl, it’s easy to get caught up in the weather channels. Watching the predictions of a Category 4 hurricane on TV may bring worry and fear to our hearts. We do need to prepare for the storm but we must be very careful not to focus on the storm. Not only do we need extra water, flash lights, batteries, gasoline and food; we also need extra prayer. Prayer is a wonderful line of defense against dangers of any type. We also need to throw some faith in there too. Faith that God is in control, that He hears our prayers and that our prayers will be answered. Many are very nervous about these huge Hurricanes coming our way. Lets change our fears, nervousness and worry to praise and prayers. This will change our whole outlook on these storms and others that may approach us in life. God loves us and He will take care of us….. Psalms 27:1 says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
Psalms 46:1-5 “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the water surges! A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home the Most High. God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it.”
So, if we are afraid of a storm trust in the Lord our God. Let Him dwell in our city and He will protect it. Our city will not be destroyed. God is our protector and our fortress. Proverbs 1:33 “But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”….
So BELIEVE the Lord is our Fortress and our protector. Have FAITH that God is in control. PRAISE the Lord for our safety and our blessings. PRAY to the Lord for what is on our minds and hearts. Lord Jesus I rebuke worry and fear that this storms has wedge in hearts and I praise your name for the protection and your victory over this storm. Let us take our focus off of the weather channel and turn our focus to your Channel oh Lord. I praise You Lord. Thank you, Jesus…….
Looks like a storm had caused great fear in Jesus disciples in Matt 8:23-27 and caused them to lose focus and trust in Him. But the Master of the sea showed them Who is really in charge of the weather in an account that can help build our faith and trust in our God.
“Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”
OK, CF… if we are standing on faith and prayer while using our resources wisely we can take this opportunity to lead others to Christ. We could call this ‘Evangelistic Storm for heart change.’ CF, you and others in the area as well as people everywhere can take the wheel and guide the ship safely to shore.
Many don’t know how to pray and some need others to pray with them. There are many needs and as we go about helping we can take the power of prayer on our lips and that dosen’t change our purse size or make our backpacks to heavy.
Storm Earl is a monster moving around and it is to be feared and we need to make wise decisions. I hope we will hear CF’s call and pray. I hope we will make ourselves available to gather with others that will pray and serve. May all find peace in the midst of the storm.
That’s right, CF. Our God is in control!
God’s got his prayer warriors on the tasks. Now that we have prayed, we now wait and see what God will do! Sara has often told me if we sing it is as a double prayer, so this is my song and I’m sticking to it.
We will wait upon the Lord
He SHALL hold us in his Hand
He shall SPEAK, He shall SPEAK
as we Fold Our Hands in Prayer
He awoke to the pleas of His disciples
That storm was ready to take them out
He silenced that Storm
and He can do it again.
We fold our hands in prayer
and we wait to see what the Lord will do!
Our Lord is mighty God
God is good all the time.
So we wait upon him
We’ve done all we can do and
now wait upon him!
Our Lord our God ismighty God! Hallelujah!
Rena, singing and praying with you…..
We thank God for answering prayer. Thank you Jesus!
We surely have grateful hearts this am! And, pray for those in NY and Ma. and MD and any and all others in the face of Earl. Also, for our nation and land and other storms are trying to show their power.
Amen! I, along with you, pray for safety and remember that chorus song from the Scriptures:
Ps. 29:10
The Lord sits as King of the deluge
The Lord sits as King forever
The Lord will give strength to His people
The Lord will bless His people with peace.
Thank You Lord for Your immeasurable mercy on us and our fellow citizens of the coastline.
More prayer is needed as Christ’s Church New Zealand just had a major earthquake 7. something with injuries, damages and deaths.
Oh GOD, Who is in control of all things, we pray for Your Namesake city, Christ Church and request Your mercy extended to those in harm’s way and those who are hurting and injured that You would grant comfort, consolation, healing and deliverance to this afflicted city and that this catastrophe would bring hearts and souls closer to the Lord Jesus Christ, in Jesus’ Name, I pray.
The devil wants nothing more than to cause us to worry. Proverbs 12:25 says: “Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.”I’d like to encourage us, this morning with more of God’s Word. Read with me, from the book of Psalms. (91:9-12) “The Lord is your protection; you made God Most High your place of safety. Nothing bad will happen to you; no disaster will come to your home. HE HAS PUT HIS ANGELS IN CHARGE OF YOU TO WATCH OVER YOU WHEREVER YOU GO. They will catch you in their hands so that you will not hit your foot on a rock.”
Let’s be encouraged today. God is still in control and He has put His angels in charge over us!!
Thank you, Lord, for your protection. I agree in prayer, for mercy, for those who have or are suffering in New Zealand. I, too, pray that all “hearts and souls draw closer to You.” In Your precious name. Amen.
“…not hit your foot on a rock.” ANgels reaching out and holding us in their arms so we will not fall. The key is if we have trusted in God and not our great philosophy of worry!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Prov. 3:5, 6 NLT Paths are for getting somewhere so it would seem that if the Lord is willing to show us and wants us on a path, that we are going to get somewhere…to a destination. And is there are rocks on the path, as there have been on many trails I have walked on, then He knows that and where they are and how to avoid them if we follow the directives in the proverb.
Also He tells us He lights it up so we can see so as not to trip on them. “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105
“Therefore, angels are only servants–spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.” ( Hebrews 1:14.) So our angels not only guard us but HELP us to stay on the right path out of harm’s way both physically and spiritually (if we will only listen to them and the Holy Spirit).
Amen. I, along with you, prayed for safety and remember that chorus song from the Scriptures:
The Lord sits as King of the deluge
The Lord sits as King forever
The Lord will grant peace to His people
The Lord will bless His people with peace.
