Q. Does a Nation have a Soul?
A. love to hear answers…and follow up to reason you believe yes? No?
I hope we all ask people we know and let’s hear and share their thoughts and beliefs as well as ours! After all, if yes, how are we connected soul to soul as a nation? If no, how do we fit into a nation?

“Q. Does a Nation have a Soul?”
In order to attempt to answer this, I had to look up some definitions, scriptures and info on what a nation is and a soul.
I found various definitions from the online dictionaries regarding nation:
“a community of people composed of one or more nationalities and possessing a more or less defined territory and government”
“a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.”
“an aggregation of persons of the same ethnic family, often speaking the same language or cognate languages.”
“a large group of people of the same race who share the same language, traditions, and history, but who might not all live in one area”
“politically organized nationality . . .”
My Bible defined a nation as: “A group of people defined by geography or ethnicity”.
And I recently heard of an interesting definition by someone (Stephen Briggs) on a podcast Sara shared with me where he said, “Is a nation defined by the language it speaks, by its geographical boundary or by its, let’s put it in one context, by its technology? Are you a Facebookite, an Amazonite or a Googlite? How would we define what a nation is?”
Rev 5:9 (also Rev 14:6) makes a distinction between nation and some other seeming ‘parts’ of a nation when it says, “For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”
And Rev 21:26 implies that a nation has a specific glory and honor: “And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.” And they will have to give an account, “All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” Matt 25:32 (would this be the soul of the nation?)
My Bible defines soul as: “The inner life of a human being, the seat of emotions, and the center of human personality.”
Some verses regarding soul:
“But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.” Heb 10:39
“Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.” I Thess 5:23
““Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matt 10:28
Then I read this about nation from “Throwing Your Light Forward, Relationship, Friendship, Fellowship”, Chapter 2, pg. 27 (retreat workbook by Sara): “The old covenant of the ark was a national and individual covenant that God made with a people to make a nation. They were symbolic of God’s desire to father all the peoples of the earth. The new covenant is not a covenant made with a nation. It is a covenant made with individuals, the presence of God in the new covenant is to be in each individual life. Out of this one on one relationship, God desires to build a nation. This new nation of different tribes, languages and tongues is to be God’s people of the new millennium that are to rule and reign with Christ”.
So, I am thinking, based on Sara’s excerpt above, that this nation would have a soul (perhaps a corporate soul and individual souls?) because it shares a similar language of the spirit, common goals, same Savior/Redeemer/Head.
I don’t know an answer for other nations as far as the Nation having one Soul…individual souls that maybe have so much in common that it becomes one Soul?
Interesting
Debi has certainly done some homework. Thanks Debi. Based on some of Debi’s information above, if I’m understanding correctly, a nation consist of people and people have souls. 🤔 hum….???
Debi, you may have to break your study book down to a simplier conclusion for ones like me! That’s a lot!
Maybe you can start by answering Tammy’s questionable conclusion?
“And Rev 21:26 implies that a nation has a specific glory and honor: “And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.” And they will have to give an account, “All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” Matt 25:32 (would this be the soul of the nation?)”
Debi, do you think Sherma answered this?
I feel at times like this the searching is hard and wonder why but must be something we need to understand as it seems the Bible is bursting at the seams with Nation info.
Surely we live in a nation and we do have responsibility and duty to our nation. And, some of us have a vote as to our leaders. And, any and all that are believers in Christ Jesus had an entrance to the Kings throne to talk about issues like this. Think about vs 4
Psalm 2 “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
Question for Sherman:
Brother Sherman, Sara here…I have a Q for you…Does a nation have a soul? If so would you explain how it works?
A) Man that’s deep. Then asked himself the question again. Every person has a soul. Do those people make up the soul? Yes a nation has a soul.
Q) How does it work?
A) Under system, people live in a nation, people unite. The majority say this person lead we will follow. What that person does and people agree with leader, that is the soul that Jesus will judge. Nations judged on basis of what the leader did.
Follow up Q if Nation does have a soul how does our personal soul fit in?
A) Scripture, Father and I are one, elected a person to be leader. Fits in by us agreeing with what our leader says and does? The soul of nation is divided. We need to go to a scholar.
I wants to know myself.
Sara, you said, “Maybe you can start by answering Tammy’s questionable conclusion?”
Tammy said, “if I’m understanding correctly, a nation consist of people and people have souls.” Tammy, that is my understanding…as my bible defined “a nation as: “A group of people…” And I Thess. 5:23 tells us one of the things people possess is a soul…“and may your whole spirit and soul and body…”
Sara, you asked, “Debi, do you think Sherma answered this?” (would this be the soul of the nation?)”
Yes, I think he did. He said, “What that person does and people agree with leader, that is the soul that Jesus will judge. Nations judged on basis of what the leader did.”
And like you said, Sara, “And, some of us have a vote as to our leaders. And, any and all that are believers in Christ Jesus had an entrance to the Kings throne to talk about issues like this. Think about vs 4.”
Thanks Debi, for sharing the verse in 1 Thess 5. Here are the footnotes for verse 23 from (NLT) “ The spirit, soul, and body refer not so much to the distinct parts of a person as to the entire being of a person. This expression is Paul’s way of saying that God must be involved in every aspect of life. It is wrong to think that we can separate the spiritual life from everything else, obeying God only in some ethereal sense or living for him only one day each week. Christ must control all of us, not just a “religious” part.”
This reminded me of two parable that I’m studying in MATHEW at BSF. He was the sowing of seed in varies soils. MATTHEW 13: 3b-9. Jwesus talks about the for soils which the sower planted good soil.
1. Harden path -Represents those that rejected the truth of JESUS AS LORD.. MATTHEW 13: 24-30. Jesus taught that the kingdom of heaven is like a man (Jesus) who sowed good seed in His field. The enemy (Satan) came why all were asleep. The seed sown were weeds which looked a lot like the good seed, but they were weeds. The servants wanted to know if they should pull up the weeds. JESUS SAID NO because it could harm the wheat’s roots. Also added that at the end of time, the harvest, the good( the saved in Jesus) wheat and the weed those who follow Satan will be separated. Jesus followers will go with JESUS to heaven the counterfeit, the weed will go to hell . Pul This parable shows that Satan, whom we know is already defeated, will continue to work against those receptive to Jesus’s word will be caught away with Jesus at the end of time..
THE next PARABLE – THE FOUR SOILS. ROCKY SOIL seed sown on the hard soil on the path seed does take due to total rejection OF Jesus. The seed that falls on rocky soilI is shallow Has no root system..This Jesus said represents a person who receives the Word with Joy, but when troubled times come gives up on following Jesus. The seed sown on thorny soil represents a divided heart They love the world more than JESUS
The fourth soil represents the responsive heart that embraces JESUS. They totally believe that Jesus died for our sins, rose again saving us from our sin. And we will be with CHRIST at the end of time forever. This soil represents true faith and this seed will will produce fruit of bringing 100, 60, 30 fold to Him. They will go to be with Jesus at the end of time. This parable is about the soil, the condition of ones heart. How’s is your heart?
You may say how in the world does apply to out topic?
Well the field is the earth which contains the nations. As citizens of the earth God created the earth without sin. But man who saw something that looked good and something God said TO ADAM AND EVE no to not eat. MAN listening to the wrong voice agreed with the voice said yes I’ll do it. Satan lied about GOD’S word so they sinned doing the thing that God said not do.. therefor sin came into a sinless garden and to the earth.
Debi did wonderful research about the soul so I won’t define it again. But knowing soul and spirit which Jesus’s parables reveal. I’d like to clarify the distinction between the soul and the spirit.
My research found.
Spirit: human spirit relates to GOD – we see that in Jesus’s parables.
Soul- the inner life without any regard to GOD, what all humanity may share, born again or not. Or whom do you callLORD – JESUS OR Satan. Are you the weed or the good plant.
WHAT IS THE CONDITION OF YOU HEART? Are you planted in good soil or are you hardened of heart and refuse to even hear about JESUS or is the world is far more exciting than serving JESUS. We are a broken earth AND ALL OF US HAS SINNED. DO YOU WANT TO BE CLEANED UP OR CONTINUE TO BE DRESSED IN THE FILTHY CLOTHING OF SIN. You choose. YOUR LIFE DEPENDS UPON IT. Do you research with an open ♥️
