Peace Peace Peace

“Because of the tender mercy of our God,
the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to shine upon those who sit in darkness and in
the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:78-79 (NRSV)

John writes, “On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you‘” (Jn. 20:19)

In Isaiah’s prophecy about the coming Messiah, he says:l

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

The Prince of Peace, our Redeemer!

  1. What a beautifully sung song. It is like a prayer for the earth and it’s people at this hour.
The song and the scriptures you wrote, Sara, really remind us what real Peace is and Who is in control of it. Thank you for sharing this.

    1. Debi, Each time I read this I’m reminded of a Blessing we receive when we act in peace, “Blessed Are the Peacemakers, for They Will Be Called Children of God” (Matt 5:9) This beatitude takes Christians into the duty of conflict resolution. Conflicts arise whenever people disagree with one another. Do we build bridges one to another?

I read this question recently and I need help on this research. “When you make peace, you reflect the likeness of God. People see a reflection of His glory. Think about how God makes peace, and what it’s going to take for you to do this hard work?”

  2. “When you make peace, you reflect the likeness of God. People see a reflection of His glory. Think about how God makes peace, and what it’s going to take for you to do this hard work?”

I found some scriptures that may help provide guidance with what it’s “going to take”. There are action words in these verses such as do, search, let, turn, put on, etc.

Psalm 34:14: “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
Isaiah 32:17: “The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.”
Romans 8:6: “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
Ephesians 2:15 -17: “He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death. He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near.”
Ephesians 6:15: “Put on your shoes so that you are ready to spread the Good News that gives peace.”
I Peter 3: 11: “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
James 3:18: “And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.”
Ephesians 4:3: “Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together.”

    1. December seems such a wonderful time of the year to be Pracemakers! I am very much enjoying the “peace” scriptures Debi discovered for us. This one particularly interest me. Ephesians 6:15: “Put on your shoes so that you are ready to spread the Good News that gives peace.”

Put on my shoes! I’m dressed and ready to serve. I’m prepared to share good news with guest I encounter be it family, friend or stranger. When you’re prepared for the stranger you might encounter an angel!

December also highlights angels as part of our celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ. And, a Star! Just so much more!

  3. Have we taken time for quiet moments to reflect on Jesus’s teaching during this Advent season? Would this discipline help us find Peace!

”This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength…”

  4. Sara, you asked, “Have we taken time for quiet moments to reflect on Jesus’s teaching during this Advent season? Would this discipline help us find Peace!”

Yes, I think it would help us because Peace is a Person, as you wrote above, the Prince of Peace. And taking time to be with Him is to be with Peace Himself. This scripture came to mind: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

    1. Debi, I’m pausing to think on your words from Jeremiah, “with all your heart.”

The teachings from Romans gives insight into with all your heart..Have you ever challenged the way you think? Hum? I’ve tried and found not real easy. I think you need a little encouragement from others on the same journey!

”Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.“
      ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  5. This verse came to mind after reading this blog….”Isaiah 26:3
    King James Version
3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

  6. The Christmas season can bring about a “crowded mind” of things that don’t bring peace. Sara has asked here..” Have we taken time for quiet moments to reflect on Jesus’s teaching during this Advent season? Would this discipline help us find Peace!” I believe Isaiah 26:3 gives us some insight on where our minds need to be, don’t you? 🙏

    1. Yes, Tammy, I agree and giving thought and mediation on your words, “where our minds need to be.” I expanded my study a little on the vs from Isaiah 26:3. The AMP helped. ”Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, The one that remains faithful and trustworthy. You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation]. Trust [confidently] in the Lord forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner], For the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].“
