GENERATIONAL NEGATIVES -PASSIVITY-Part I

My coined phrase Generational Negatives??? here in after referred to as (GN).

The Book of St. John chapter 5 Take Up Your Bed and Walk..

St. John, known by many as the Beloved Apostle of Jesus Christ records the account of Jesus visiting Jerusalem and stopping by a pool called Bethesda. There were many sick people lying around, blind, crippled and paralyzed and Jesus took notice of one particular man that had been lying around on a bed for thirty-eight years.

Jesus asked the man, do you want to get well? The man replied ???I don’t have anyone to put me in the pool and when I try to get there someone always gets in before I make it there.

Jesus said, Get up, take your bed and start walking. The man was healed on the spot.

This story could open our minds to cause us to re-think some situations in our own lives where we think things could or would or should be different if someone would do a certain thing for us. We may be laying, or sitting and waiting and discussing our whys and why nots?

Why does he or she and not me get all the breaks?

Why hasn’t someone or when will someone see me and help me?

Then Jesus through the divine guidance of The Holy Spirit says, go Girl??? or get with it Man. Then we lecture the Holy Spirit on His inaccuracies because of our excuses. So The Holy Spirit moves on around our circle and finds a willing being.

Passivity! Yes, passivity picks up steam to keep us going for another round of (GN)..

As I was driving to Starbucks for my coffee break today I heard a radio talk show host from Scarborough going on and on about generations and negative behavior and living a very long life. Seemly he and the guest he was speaking to didn’t necessarily think living a long life of hundreds of years would be a very good idea because of the possibility of negative behavior of family members they might have to see. The host said his father sits around and talks about how many generations before no more (G’s). (I think he referred to abuse in his family being the issue).

I was thinking are they expecting (GN) to wash away in their bath water or what?

In my study of God’s Word (GN’s) = Passivity +Negative Words brings about a possible generational negative (GN). Yet, Jesus gave many behavior modifications for our actions to help break the (GN).

One example is from St. John Take up your bed and walk: 1) take-up or get up- being physical action. (Example: Get off the sofa watching TV) 2) Bed – symbolizing mind, (Example: don’t get up on the wrong side the bed) change your attitude by thought and action. 3) Walk- start (Example: I can make a start of cleaning my garage) Move on with or away from the situation or surroundings.

Can you think of some (GN) in your life that you are not happy about? If someone (being a divine intervention) spoke so bluntly to you as just pick yourself up and go, would you do it? If not, Why not? If yes, when will you start?

After all, God’s Holy Word says, You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (I Peter 2:9)

YOU ARE LOVED AND YOU ARE SPECIAL!

  1. We’ve had ADHD and all types of other disorders and now we have GN! In the race for a cure I see you have an answer here…change my attitude!

  2. Yes!!! While ADD & ADHD are primarily physiological, GN seems to be and/or is soulish ….affecting the spirit. There’s no Ritalin for the soul. And, if soul is associated with our minds, then we must(or might) do what I read in one of Sara’s books…A trinity of steps….She writes,…
    l. Face It
    2. Admit It
    3. Change It

  3. Also don’t forget to entertain strangers; for you may have an angel as your guest that just may be a messenger of God just for you. (Hebrews 13:2)

I have found this to be true!!!

  4. It is so clear that people who feel whole (mind, body , and spirit) are the ones who always have a great attitude! They look at bad experiences as stepping stones to good experiences. My plan is to work harder at “picking up my bed and going”! There isn’t enough time in the day to waste laying around thinking about moving.

  5. YOUR LEFE HAS BEEN PREPLANNED FOR YOU. ONLY YOU AND GOD CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN. NO ONE ELSE CAN HELP YOU. YOU HAVE TO HELP YOURSELF.

  6. I agree with Jersey and Stacie. God has a plan and a purpose for each of our lives…take Rosa Parks, for instance…a modern day Esther. And I strongly doubt He wants us hanging around the pool of Bethesda for 38 years….well, at least if we’re not there WITNESSING for the GOSPEL. So take a hint from Sara, Stacie, Jersey, and the LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD….”I think I can! I think I can! I think I can! For as a man thinks in his heart…so he is.

  7. I suffered w/ severe depression and anxiety for many years and experienced a mental breakdown. Both my parents had suffered mental breakdowns so this was a pretty strong indicator that it was generational’. During this period I lost all confidence in my self and God-given abilities and talents and became very passive. Then I met Sara. She said get up and Go Girl’ and with 2 degrees in my back pocket and much fear and hesitation I went back into the work world of my field horticulture. I learned over the years through the mentoring of Sara and her teachings such as this article many get up and go’ actions that slowly put my fears and depression to flight. I got healed from GN’ as I went and did positive things: my horticulture and landscape work; singing and playing my guitar; doing for others…and a list of other things.
I really did find that I am loved and special’. Thanks Sara for the behavior modifications that broke my GN.

  8. I’d like to say that when I read the part where Jesus told that man to “get up and walk”…. The scripture that came to my mind was taking up our cross. I had to look it up to remind myself just how it reads. Mark 8:34 (KJV) “And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS, and follow me.” (we must do our part and not be passive) Thanks for this teaching. Tammy

  9. With the encouragement that Jesus is with me all the time, I have changed from the small child cowering behind my Mother’s sitting chair to a teacher who does her best to teach and encourage all children to be their authentic self (no encumbrances).

I have found that the more you hide from fear (GN) the more you will have to hide from it. If you stand up to it (taking action) with the authority of Jesus Christ by your side, you can handle most anything. Jesus doesn’t like the bully (Satan) messing with His kids.

  10. G N will try to rule in our lives if we don’t identify it and begin to eliminate its influence over us. At every turn, I see in my life a GN’s persuasive inclination to look at or consider the way WE HAVE ALWAYS LOOKED AT SOMETHING in our family or our community or our religious thinking; like, it’s always been that way! But when we stop to identify it and consider (whatever the problem is ) in a new light
we might find a freedom and liberty that we did not know was available in our way of “thinking and doing”.
Whom the Son has made free is free indeed!

  11. I have found in my own life over and over again that positive physical action is a quick way to put a stop to a negative attitude.

  12. As I was re-reading ‘Procrastination’ over and over from our blog. I began to think HUM maybe it starts here. “Take up your bed and walk.”

Sometimes I focus on fighting the enemy of my soul from the outside and maybe it’s the inside. Change of attitude again! Just as it says on this blog!

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
    – Ghandi

  13. This series reminds me a lot of what Pastor Kern mentioned in Watchman Nee’s little book, “Sit, Walk, Stand.”

Maybe a review of this series would help with some of our disappointments.

    1. I re-read the GenerationalNegetive(GN)Blog and it goes right along just as Sara said with what Pastor Kern spoke on about Watchman Nees book, sit, walk stand…..In the GN blog I read we had to know who we are and where we are seated with Christ…take up our bed and walk…if we want to break the GN in our lives and stop the cycle…as Sara wrote..when the Holy Spirit says go…we have to (go and do)(change our way of thinking speaking and attitudes) and we will be strong and set free …if not we “add steam to the cycle of GN for another round” and others get caught up in its cycle…

  14. Dorothy, since your last comment here I have watched you ‘run through a troop and leap over a wall! Psalm 18:29 This psalm, eighteen, describes King David’s victory over his great trials. We have read and prayed this often, “With my God I can break through barricades.” Jesus broke through a barrier for our souls.

I pray now for you that you walk with wisdom. Live out truth, grace, peace and love. Let no one deceive you. And, above all hold fast to the hand of your maker.
