WHAT THEY HAVE DONE I DO

WHAT THEY HAVE DONE I DO
IT’S RECORDED IN THE BOOK
IT HAS DONE ME WELL TO READ AND HEED
THEIR HISTORY AND LOOK

THE SINS OF OTHERS’ BLESSED BY GOD
WHO TRIP AND FALL IN TESTS AND TRIALS
I READ ASTOUNDED BY GOLDEN CALVES
AND SHRINK AT APOSTLES’ DENIALS

AND HOW COULD A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART
ENGAGE HIS SOUL IN MURDER
THROUGH LUST AND FEAR, PRODUCE A PLAN
THE PROPET’S CHARGE
“THOU ART THE MAN!”
OH, SOUL YOU MARVEL AT OTHERS’ FAULTS
THEN HOW WILL GOD’S INTIMATES BE RECKONED
BY A LOVING, BLESSING GOD
WHEN LUST OR GREED OR PRIDE HAVE BECKONED
TO WITHDRAW YOUR HAND FROM THE STAFF
OR PLOW
TO ALLOW THE HARVEST FIELDS LIE FALLOW
AND GLANCING BACK AT SODOM’S GLARE
A PILLAR OF SALT ENSNARED RIGHT THERE
I CRY OUT AS IN DAVID’S PSALMS
MY HISTROY IS WRITTEN IN THE PALMS
OF CHRIST’S TWO HANDS AND IN THE BOOK
ON NAILS AND SPEAR AND BLOODIED WOOD
FOR IN MYSELF THERE IS NO GOOD
FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE I DO
OH, FOR FORGIVENESS AND THE CLEANSING WORD
OH, LORD I RUN TO YOU
FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, I DO

  1. We are so blessed to have the assurance of The blood of the sacrificial Lamb, Jesus Christ, as our assurance to forgiveness. We are so blessed to have The Holy Spirit as our comforter, counsellor and giver of truth.

Jesus Promises and gives the Holy Spirit:

John14: 15-24 “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

22Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”

23Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

25″All this I have spoken while still with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

  2. What a comfort the Words of Jesus are in John Chapter 14, one of my favorite and most cherished sections of the Bible. ( I sound like Sara. She says that about practically every verse she reads). But to think that Jesus Christ, the SON OF GOD has said these things to us is more than man can take in.
And, as Sara says above, “We are so blessed”. Then what else can we be looking for? He’s promised us Paradise if we will pay attention to the SPIRIT and obey His gentle promptings.
What could possibly, on this earth or anywhere in the universe, be better than Heaven? Nothing! And it’s ours if we remain faithful and obedient. We will not only inherit the Kingdom but on this earth we will have “life and life more abundantly.”

  3. As you said MG, …”My history is written in the palms..” And as Sara says above, because I live you will live also. Therein is our Life for we serve a risen savior. This morning I found myself singing this hymn, ‘He Lives’ written in 1933 by Alfred H. Ackley. It seems it’s words express these truths.

    I serve a risen Savior, He’s in the world today;
    I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He’s always near.

    Refrain
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me
    along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
    He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And tho’ my heart grows weary
    I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up
    your voice and sing,
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him,
the help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.

  4. He who dewlleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God; in Him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust; his truth shall be thy shield and bucker. Thou shalt not be afread for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day, Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come near thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation, There whall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come near thy dewlling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder; the youn lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under feet…….BECAUSE HE HATH SET HIS LOVE UPON ME, THEREFORE WILL I DELIVER HIM….I will set him on high, BECAUSE HE HATH KNOWN MY NAME….HE SHALL CALL UPON ME, AND I WILL ANSWER HIM…I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation………..PSALM 91:1-16….(there is nowhere else to run and no one to save and help but the Lord)…David knew…

  5. MG, your poem is so appropriate as some of us prepare our hearts and minds for the Festival of ‘celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ,’ known as Easter by many.

I was thinking of Paul, a murderer and brutal man at one time in his life, how could he write one of the most beautiful and probably best known love poems of all times. I Corinthians 13…I thought, one may know truth but to live it, are two very distinct different things. It’s like day and night. I am so glad that we are given the opportunity to grow in faith as well as age as we mature in all areas of our lives.

  6. Sara,
You mentioned Saul/Paul. Once he learned the truth he was determined and proceeded to live his life as though he were already in Heaven and his physical body mattered little except to be a vehicle to transport the Preaching and Teaching of the glorious Good News to mankind. What FREEDOM!!!!
Then I thought about Solomon, so beloved of God that his name means PEACE. God gave him EVERYTHING; wisdom; beauty, brains; creativity; talent; incredible prosperity that even Jesus referred to Solomon’s wealth & abundance in the Gospels. Solomon knew the truth and yet, what happened in his later years? Just as you mentioned above, “one may know the truth, but to LIVE it, are two different and distinct things.” And therein lies the truth. TO LIVE IT; WALK IN IT; TO DISTRIBUTE and DISPENSE IT.(especially by example)…….. is not the same as JUST KNOWING IT OR ABOUT IT. TWO DIFFERENT THINGS, indeed.

  7. MG this brings to my mind how unworthy we really are. We have all fallen short. We have all felt lust, pride and greed in our hearts at one time in our life. As I was reading this I thought of John the Baptist. This man was put on this earth preparing the world for Jesus. Mark1:1-4 “This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began just as the prophet Isaiah had written:
Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he
will prepare your way. He is a voice shouting in the
wilderness, Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
    Clear the road for him!
This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should baptized to show that they had turned to God to receive forgiveness for their sins.” (NLT)
This man was put on this earth to preach and prepare people’s heart for the coming of Jesus. That was his whole purpose. He spent day and night preaching, praying and preparing for Jesus. John himself stated that he was unworthy.
Mark 1:7-8 John announced: “Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am-so much greater that I’m not worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit” (NLT)
As I was reading this I was thinking if someone like John the Baptist feels unworthy, I am definitely not worthy of Jesus. I fall short every day. What makes me think that I have a chance to receive God’s glory. Compared to John the Baptist, I am nothing. I have failed.
Then I read Mark 1:40-41 “A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed.”If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean, he said. Move with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I AM WILLING”, he said. “BE HEALED”” (NLT)
Now I know that I don’t have leprosy but I do have sin. I know I am not worthy but I AM WILLING for Jesus to HEAL me. I am WILLING to let Jesus CLEAN me daily. Lord forgive me for my short comings. Please heal me and clean me just as you did with the man who had leprosy. Sin is more severe than leprosy. Sin is so bad God put his son on this earth to die a horrible death to clean us and heal us. What a sacrific. I humble myself before the Lord. Use ALL OF ME!!!!!!

  8. CF,
You know, as I read your excellent comments, I started getting the mental image of JESUS on the Cross. He was there for one reason and one reason only; HIS Father had asked HIM to sacrifice HIS life for us, before the beginning of the world. He consented to do the Father’s will and “He BECAME sin for us; He Who had no sin.” But for our sakes, for us the sinners, He suffered and died so that we wouldn’t have to suffer in HELL for all eternity.
When I wrote in the poem above that my history is written on the nails and the spear and the bloodied wood of the cross, I acknowledge and admit that it was MY sin that put Christ there. The enemy of Christ thought he had HIM, at last. But I love what Lisa Bevere said in one of her teachings. “When Christ forgave His slayers (including me and all mankind), He went from being a VICTIM to being THE VICTOR.”
Those who receive THAT FORGIVENESS of their sins through the shed blood of CHrist on the Cross share in the resurrection of CHRIST the VICTOR!

  9. “Christ himself was like God in everything. But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit. But he gave up
his place with God and made himself nothing. He was born as a man and became like a servant. And when he was living as a man, he humbled himself and was
fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death–death on a cross.”
    (Philippians 2:6-8 New Century Version)

Lord, I pray for your forgiveness, “what they have done, I do”. When I read this blog and the above scriptures, I can do nothing but repent and be
thankful for Jesus, who humbled himself, and took MY place on that tree. Thank you, Father, for sending your precious Son, so that I/we would have the
freedom to have forgiveness for our sins, and the freedom to choose You and make heaven our home.
