What Would I Wear?

As we were out shopping the other day and looking at the new Autumn fashions, we discussed an upcoming event and I asked, “what are you wearing?”

So, here’s a question for our writers, today. What would YOU wear if Jesus were coming, today?

Suddenly , the thought occurred to me, ‘If Jesus were coming today what would I wear?’ If Jesus were coming over for dinner, or if i were to meet Him in town for dinner, WHAT WOULD I WEAR?

  1. The Biblical response COULD be that I would “Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” That would be one choice. Any other thoughts?

  2. I think I would wear the same outfit that I wear when I go to dinner with my family and friends. I hope it would say integrity and goodwill. I hope my lip shine will be grace and my fragrance will be hope. I hope my eyes will speak to Him in words of peace, truth, love, and joy.

I think my jewelry would be turquoise and silver. May I see Him for Himself and all His friends be mine as I see Jesus in them. I hope I am each day what I will be on that day.

Now what will I eat for dinner???? That takes more thought as I really love good food and coffee!!!!!

  3. I like Sara’s response…that’s authentic and that’s what Jesus would see anyhow…your authentic self.

When I read “What would I wear?” I thought that I hope I will have ‘on’ character traits like Christ.
Col. 3:10…”and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him– {a renewal} in which there is no {distinction between} Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things {put on} love, which is the perfect bond of unity.”

These are not ‘things’ which can be put on for a particular occasion or at the last minute (like the virgins in Matt 25:1-13 who went seeking for oil for their lamps at the last minute because they knew the Lord was coming). This is character/authentic self which has grown and rooted in us and is always dressed and ready for any occasion.

  4. After reading a book about Heaven entitled, HEAVEN IS SO REAL, my response might be….as with what happened to Choo Thomas.
You may be surprised. He may visit you in the night hours. He may have a message for you. He may have a warning or counsel or a request of you in the dark of night. He may ask you to pray and intercede for a urgent desire of His heart. It may be 3:00 a.m…or 4:00 a.m.
Yes! Jesus may visit you in the night hours. AND: You may be wearing pajamas.

  5. Yes, Sara, the only one that would outshine your loveliness is JESUS! He would be the most beautiful one of all at the dinner table.
I love the Scripture that Debi quoted above: COL. 3:10. Ouch!

  6. Initially, I would want to say…..”Oh, I would have on my very best, for the King of Kings,” but I hope to have on my countenance……….the EXPECTATION OF HIS RETURN! Read with me….Mark 13:32-37 “No one knows when that day or time will be, not the angels in heaven, not even the Son. Only the Father knows. Be careful! Always be ready, because you don’t know when that time will be. It is like a man who goes on a trip. He leaves his house and lets his servants take care of it, giving each one a special job to do. The man tells the servant guarding the door always to be watchful. So always be ready, because you don’t know when the owner of the house will come back. It might be in the evening, or at midnight, or in the morning while it is still dark, or when the sun rises. Always be ready. Otherwise he might come back suddenly and find you sleeping. I tell you this and I say this to everyone: ‘Be ready!”

  7. Good thinking Needles! Esther showed her countenance to the King and he immediately chose her about all other. When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. So Esther came near and touched the top of the scepter.

I think we all yearn for The King to extend to us His golden scepter….

  8. After listening to some of Courtney McBath’s sermon on tv today, I’d like to add something here. He used the example of his mother asking him to take out the trash, while she went somewhere. He said that he could do something else, or even sit on the porch with a “gleam” in his eye, just waiting in excitement of her return. He said, “now, I don’t know what kind of mother you have, but my mother would not be concerned with how much love or excitement or gleam I had, but she would want to know, if I had done what she told me to do. (take out the trash)
I guess I knew exactly where he was going with this. This made me think about this blog and my comment posted. I do believe we need to be prepared and be looking for Jesus’ return, but I thought……”am I doing all He asked me to do, in the meantime?”

Lord, help us to stay focused on You and Your Word. Help us to stay busy, about Your work.

  9. In this book HEAVEN IS SO REAL Jesus tells Choo Thomas that He is coming much sooner than His children realize. He showed her a vision of the Ratpure and she saw her 1 1/2 year old granddaughter (looking to be about the age of 8 or 9 years old) going up in the rapture. That was about 5 years ago when she saw the vision.
That means OUR LIFETIME. We must prepare NOW. We heard a sermon in NC a few weeks ago when the Pastor Masoncup said the LORD had impressed SEVERAL WORDS upon him. And the first one was PREPARE.
You’re right, Needles. He will take up only the pure in heart, those who have obeyed Him and have done His work on earth that He gave each of us to do. Those who have washed thier sins in the blood of the Lamb
By the way, the children of God in the vision that showed Christians going up in the rapture all had on WHITE ROBES!!!

  10. Thanks for sharing and your thoughts on the sermon Needles. It made me think about what Jesus had to say about showing love. “If you love Me, you will obey my commandments.” John 14:15.

  11. I believe if we have our armor on, Jesus will be able to pick us out in a crowd. Ephesians 6:11 “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” Ephesians 6: 13-17 “13Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In additionto all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Isaiah 59:17 “He put on righteousness as his body armor and placed the helmet of salvation on his head. He clothed himself with a robe of vengeance and wrapped himself in a cloak of divine passion.”

Romans 13:12 “The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.”

According to the above verses, we need to be wearing our armor, when we meet Jesus for dinner. He is the peace in our battle. We will be able to sit with him and eat our dinner without anything to worry about. We have to keep putting our armor on daily until the day he knocks on our door and ask us to go to dinner with him. We must stay focused so we will hear him when he knocks at the door. We must make sure that our TV is not too loud to hear his knock. We must be ready at all times, he could knock on our door today.
