Detoxing our minds

Joel Osteen and his family came to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on September 5, ’08. What an uplifting event. The bill of fare lived up to its name, “A Night of Hope”. Everything was inspiring and truly Joel Osteen is anointed for this message. He said that most people today are into detoxifying their bodies but what they need even more is a detoxifying of minds. We need to go on a diet and stay diligent to it and not allow negative things to infiltrate us. We need to unload the negatives, find and up root the cause whether a teacher or counselor speaking negative things into our life, or whether anyone else spoke it – ask forgiveness or write letters of forgiveness so that you can be set free to become everything that Jesus wants you to become – what he wanted for you as a child of God from the very beginning. He said that we need to read scripture of affirmation of who we are in Christ everyday. These scriptures and like message had been given to some of us at the 3rd Annual Retreat of the Daily Lily, “The Four Bees, by Sara. The message at the retreat by Sara and the message that Joel Osteen preached were almost identical. This must be the message of the hour for God’s people. Here are some of the scriptures typed out so that each of you can read them and become whom God spoke blessings over from the very beginning:

Psalm 37:25 (New International Version) 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

2 Timothy 1:7 (New International Version) 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

John 15:16 (New International Version) 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

Colossians 2:9-10 (New International Version) For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

Romans 8: 31-39…31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a] 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:16-18 (New International Version) 16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness

There were many more exact scriptures given Friday night by Joel Osteen at a ‘Night of Hope’ and by Sara at “The Four Bees Retreat” July ’08. Sara gave each of us much inspiration this summer and Joel came along and matched it. Now, some of us have gotten it both barrels. Therefore, we should take the vitamins and go full force to detox our minds to the Glory of God.

My thanks to both Joel and Victoria, Joel’s Mother for testimony of God healing her of cancer, their praise team and Sara’s powerful anointing teaching this summer to lead and propel us right into this new diet of detoxing our minds.

Now, hopefully, we will run the race with the power we have!

I love to garden and got that love from my Mom and Dad who taught be everything I know from planting to harvesting to canning. I'm happy gardening, walking with my pug, JD Sir Winston Churchill, painting, and crafting. I love to spend Saturday's sitting in my rocker going through a bible study. I love working with elementary school aged children and seeing them use their creative gifts. I have taught Sunday school for a number of years and taught in the public schools for 18 years. I might say I'm retired but I spend most of my time subbing and enjoy it immensely. The kids spark my own creativeness.

  1. Rena, thanks for your post to help keep our ‘detox diet of mind’ before us at all times. I had a very exciting and inspirational night with The Osteens as well. We were told to write letters of forgiveness for part of the detox diet by the Osteen’s. I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit had led me to write some forgiving letters through the power of emails and internet on Friday am just before the pm meeting.

I agree with the Osteen’s on this. Let us continue to clear and make clear any areas in our lives that keep us from having Victory. My thoughts are ‘Win words not Worm words!’ Also, as you mentioned Joel told us to read scriptures EVERY DAY,that is the very same thing Gary (CCI) says in his teachings week after week to do and that is part of Gary’s goals for this year and every year. You are right Rena, both barrels, not double, but triple!

A detox diet is not easy but worth the work and discomfort as well.

  2. I would like to share a testimony about an experience I had at the “Osteen’s, Night of Hope.” As we stood Worshipping Jesus, I looked up on the big screen where the worship leaders were singing and I saw “Tammy and Wendy”, they need hope. I prayed for them and blessed them with my thoughts and words. Then I felt strongly to sit down and text message them on my cell phone and that I did. I got back from them, thanks, we need this our hearts are heavy. Frankly, I was a little shocked. I had spoken with them during the day and had not been told that.

Little did I know they had just heard and experienced (they are nurses of ICU) that a co-worker of their hospital, a grandmother, with a six year old grandson in car had just had a fatal accident. Grandmother had just attended “Grandparents Day” and driving home in heavy rains from the storm had an accident. The child is in the’ arms of Jesus’ and the grandmother is in serious condition in a hospital in NC. Oh, my, yes, their hearts were heavy but God brought this to the attention of a big screen in The Verizon Center in Washington, DC for prayer, hope and love. This was a “Night of Hope” by Joel Osteen. Yes, I realized just how much God loves His children. May we all here continue to pray for this grandmother, her family, especially her daughter and family as they walk through the losing of a child and the healing of Mother.

I am just so thankful that God loves this family that I do not know and have never heard of as far as I know. But, when you live and move in the family of God, He calls upon the intercessors, His children, His family, His church, to move with action.

Our prayers, love, thoughts and hope go out to this family.

  3. That is an awesome account, Sara, concerning the names on the screen, God’s message to His intercessor. How wonderful of God and how wonderful that you were obedient and responded to the Lord immediately to mininster to the grieving and sorrowful hearts of His children in N. C. as they tried to come to grips with this tragedy.
We must all learn quickly to answer the call to intercede on behalf of the saints and our loved ones. But more than that, we need to recognize that call. And the only way to do that is to listen to the SHEPHERD’S voice daily…My sheep know My voice”. And then, obey!

  4. I, too, was at the Joel and Victoria’s victory service at Verizon Center. And these are my observations. The service was amazing as the teachings that Joel AND Victoria gave were not only centered in the WORD of GOD, not only insprirational and spiritually practical, but were almost exactly what we had learned at thedailylily.org THE FOUR BEES RETREAT this summer. We would have had to be deaf, dumb and blind not to see that the Lord God was reinforcing everything He had given us at that retreat through the teachings of Sara, in July. (and continues to). One of our elder prophets told us that God does not tell one servant one thing and another servant something else.
It truly was a message of hope. As Gary has been reiterating over and over in his lessons on Sunday…GOD REALLY DOES LOVE US and has plans and purposes we for our lives. In that is HOPE.
Another observation as I sat in one of the balconies at the Verizon Center and surveyed that packed out audience of Christians, (mostly) and potential Christians just in the city of Washington, DC and its environs I couldn’t help but think of the mighty army of the Body of Christ all over the globe, in the large cities and in the faraway reaches, that Jesus has created and founded on earth by His death and resurrection and if we joined together in mass fellowship how great an army could win the world for Jesus Christ, quickly and then HE COULD COME AND GET US.
The testimony of Dodie Osteen, Joel’s mother, was spectacular concerning the Lord’s healing her of cancerand her courage and faith to believe and stand for the healing. And Jesus Christ did it!!! THERE in itself is HOPE!.
We cried and prayed fervently when the altar call was given to STAND and ask Jesus to be Lord and Savior and to cleanse from all unrighteousness and a host of people responded to that call. May the Lord have mercy on them, deliver them, wholly, from evil and fill their lives with the knowledge of the Living God.
It was a glorious night. No ball game could have been that exciting, that miraculous, that much fun in the Lord. And the JESUS TEAM WON!

  5. I agree with MG that Sara’s testimony is awesome…a powerful display of God’s timely love, reminding me of the scripture from Isaiah 65:24, “It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.”
I join in prayers for this family also.

  6. That massive outpouring of Christian assembly which I experienced…in person, live, reminded me of a Scripture in Revelation 19:11. It is a Scripture that brings chills and longing for Christ.
“And I saw Heaven opened and behold, a white horse and HE that sat upon it was called Faithful and True and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were as a flame of fire and on His head were many crowns and He had a Name which no one knew except Himself. ..and His Name is THE WORD OF GOD.
AND THE ARMIES WHICH WERE IN HEAVEN FOLLOWED HIM (the Body of Christ) UPON WHITE HORSES, CLOTHED IN PURE LINEN FINE AND CLEAN”
That ARMY could be “US”! That we must go out and compel them to come in so that they may ride with us when we ride with JESUS CHRIST upon white horses.

  7. One other tool that I would mention which I thought was very helpful and practical in the detoxifying process for our souls; Joel mentioned that his very health-conscious friend, when offered a food or drink that he feels is not a healthy choice, responds, ” No thanks, that’s not on my diet.”
Joel said we must do the same thing when the enemy offers us a thought or imagination that exalts itself against the the knowledge of GOD, just say to that thought or imagination….”No, thanks! That’s NOT on my diet!”
    Defy and detoxify!

  8. I gave this word that I felt the Lord gave me for our church, CCI on 11/07/04… edited for blog
“The water that you are drinking has been purified. The air that you are breathing has been purified. Drink, breathe and detox your mind. Yes,Detox your mind. Detox because I am going to give you new and fresh things. There’s a new wind blowing; a new way blowing. It is new. It is exciting and as you drink of Me and take Me in and purify your minds. I will talk with you. I will give you new things, creative things, new ways of doing things and you will say, ‘well we’ve never been this way before’. And you are going to be skilled and able to do it because I will equip you. I will equip you. If you will follow Me… I will equip you for this next journey.”

  9. “As you drink o f ME and take Me in and PURIFY your minds, …..I will give you new things, creative things, new ways of doing things..” What a promise!! The Lord says His yoke is easy and his burden is light. So what small price could it cost us to seek the Lord for drink and breathe in the rarified air of the Lord Jesus Christ?
If we strive to detoxify….Joel said it would take patience but we must keep filling up on the pure water of the Word, just as Sara’s prophecy above, says….’DRINK OF ME’…keep that pure water going into the rough, dry, muddied places in our minds and hearts…and eventually we will (Or rather HE will), flush out the filth and degradation, corrosion, toxins and harmful, poisonous areas of our minds, hearts and souls and eventually the pure water of the washing of the water of the Word will run clean & clear through us, giving us rivers of Living water in our inner man and the air we breathe will be Christ Jesus and His Holy Spirit.
Then we will be victorious in what we undertake for the Lord because we will be listening to His instructions on how to achieve new and exciting things and projects and processes for the KINGDOM Work.

  10. Note on word above from 11/07/04…: I have seen this happen in my life. One: this website Two: writing of new workbooks and teaching retreats Three:many new and many changes in areas with interpersonal relationships, skills and communication ‘bridge building’ between diverse groups and situations Four: Communication skills have in fact increased in ‘volumes’ for this part of my journey Five: in my journals for the past 3 years I have seen many changes in my writings, thinking, loving and hoping, these things are just a few among many others of no less value.

I am also very grateful and thankful for the encouragement from God’s Word and His servants like unto Osteens and others. Can’t forget my trip to Charlotte, NC this summer to visit The Billy Graham Library which gave me a real boost of Hope for ’08 into eternity. What a life story of a man with his family serving God through His Hope in Jesus Christ and the work of The Holy Spirit. Also the help and support of those that I am blessed to be in relationship with. I am glad to be a part of a generation of hope that looks for and finds creative ways to be a blessing to the people around them.

  11. Sara, that’s quite a testament to the faithfulness of God. His promises are yea & amen but also He looks for patience, perseverence, diligence and faithful commitment in those He blesses. You have proven a good and faithful servant and by the fruits you are known. The Lord would have each of His children partake of His abundant blessings. Whosoever will, can enter in drink deeply of the pure water of His Word and breathe the purified breath of Jesus Christ and they (we) too can have a mind cleasing and a testimony and a hope for the future.

  12. Yes, MG, I agree with your comments about Sara and your other observations. Living this detoxed life reminds me of this chorus from ‘Dwelling in Beulah Land’ by C. Austin Miles.

I’m living on the mountain, underneath a cloudless sky
I’m drinking at the fountain that never shall run dry
O yes, I’m feasting on the manna from a bountiful supply
For I am dwelling in Beulah Land

  13. A Vitamin of Prayer for the on going processes of detox for the mind: Mark 11:24-25 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

  14. I’d like to thank you, Sara, for being still, listening to God, and texting Wendy and I, that you were praying for us. God’s timing is always perfect! Also, thank you, for continuing to remember this family, as the child’s funeral is today, and the grandmother is still hospitalized.

“Detoxing our minds”…. According to Webster, detoxify means- 1) to remove a poison or poisonous effect from 2) to treat for drug or alcohol addiction. After reading this definition and opening my Bible, I wondered how similar the word “purify” was to “detox”. Webster’s dictionary says that purify means – 1) to rid of impurities, etc. 2) to free from guilt, sin, etc. –to become purified.

I found a scripture in 1Chron. 15, that I think is “fitting” for this blog. It’s verse 12. ” He said to them, ‘You are the leaders of the Levite families. You must purify yourselves and all your fellow Levites, so you can bring the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.” The footnotes say: ” The priests purified themselves so they would be prepared to carry the Ark. To purify literally means ‘to separate’, to set apart for sacred purposes, to consecrate. The priests symbolically separated themselves from sin and evil. This was done by washing themselves and their clothing in a special ceremony. While we are not required to carry out such cermonies today, we can purify ourselves by reading God’s Word, thoughtfully applying it to our lives, and preparing our hearts to participate in worship through anticipation, self-examination, and meditation. Just as we ‘set apart’ time for worship, we also ‘set apart’ ourselves to be in God’s presence.”

Seemingly, “detoxifying our minds” is a continuous daily exercise, that requires action and or work, on our part. I am sure we have all heard the old saying….”trash in, trash out”? Well, thanks be to God, He left His Holy Word, for us to use and apply, so that we would have the choice to put “pure in, so that pure comes out”.

Thank you, Lord, for Your Word, Spirit, and Bible teachers, such as the Osteens, Sara, Gary, and others, who will “labor”, for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

  15. “The water that you are drinking has been purified. The air that you are breathing has been purified. Drink, breathe and detox your mind. from my comment above.

Needles, in reading your above comment on purifying and detoxifying our minds as a daily exercise etc. my thoughts go to drinking water is the washing of the word, and the air is the breath of the living God. This bring me to this wonderful song to help with our exercise.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love,
and do what thou wouldst do.

    2. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    until my heart is pure,
until with thee I will one will,
    to do and to endure.

    3. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    till I am wholly thine,
till all this earthly part of me
    glows with thy fire divine.

    4. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
    so shall I never die,
but live with thee the perfect life
    of thine eternity.

  16. Sara, I love that song that you have quoted above. I am reminded of another P & W song that I love and that goes something like this:
“This is the air I breathe,
this is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me
    This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread etc.

  17. I found, in the the book, “Reframing Your Life” by Stephen Arterburn some very helpful information in eliminating some of the toxins in our lives. Some of the points in his book address the distorted thinking and confusion that many hold in their souls which hinder the victorious life in Jesus Christ. Some of his chapter contents deal with Arrogant Entitlement; Justifiable Resentment; Roots of Bitterness; Dislocated Isolation and Blind Ignorance. He writes on how to find a new mind-set and develop a fresh new perspective on overcoming the negatives playing on your mind and soul by “not letting your weaknesses define you” but …and Sara and Joel & Victoria alluded to the same thing….allowing yourself to regard your strengths and your gifts from God to redefine your point of reference.
When we reframe our way of thinking about a thing by applying the framework of the Scriptures…and persevere in that, then we become overcomers in Christ Jesus.

  18. MG this example of reframing and eliminating toxins reminds me of a principle Sara taught in her Four Bees. She told us that regarding those negative things in our lives, she said ‘force those underground and let them die’…that these were seeds we didn’t want growing, rotten fruit that would spoil the rest.
I think about why we might want to plow/cultivate our gardens this fall…one reason is to uproot the weeds that have grown in them, and the old rotten plant material and turn or force them under the ground. When they are pushed under, they don’t have light to grow, they are smothered. Then we should immediately plant winter rye, a good green manure crop, whose roots actually release chemicals that can prevent weed seeds from growing. So God shows us principles in His world of nature that can correspond to things in His Spirit.

  19. A good friend sent me this and I thought how appropriate for’Detoxing our minds.’ I normally don’t stop to read this type of email but felt important. Hope it ministers to you as it did to me:
    SATAN’S MEETING
    (Read even if you’re busy)
Satan called a worldwide convention of demons.
In his opening address he said,
“We can’t keep Christians from going to church.”
“We can’t keep them from reading their Bibles and Knowing the truth.”
“We can’t even keep them from forming an intimate Relationship with their
    saviour.”
“Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power Over them is
    broken.”
“So let them go to their churches; let them have their
Covered dish dinners, BUT steal their time, so they
Don’t have time to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ..”

“This is what I want you to do,” said the devil:
“Distract them from gaining hold of their Saviour and
Maintaining that vital connection throughout their Day!”
“How shall we do this?” his demons shouted.
“Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life and
Invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds,” he Answered.
“Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow,Borrow, borrow.”
“Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and
The husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a
Day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles.”
“Keep them from spending time with their children.”
“As their families fragment, soon, their homes will
Offer no escape from the pressures of work!”
“Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear That still, small
    voice.”
“Entice them to play the radio or cassette player
Whenever they drive.” To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and
Their P Cs going constantly in their home and see to it
That every store and restaurant in the world plays
    Non-biblical music constantly.”
“This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ.”
“Fill the coffee tables with magazines and Newspapers.”
“Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day.”
“Invade their driving moments with billboards.”

“Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order
Catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter
And promotional offering free products, services and False hopes..”
“Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV
So their husbands will believe that outward beauty is
what’s important, and they’ll become dissatisfied with Their wives. ”
“Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at Night.”
    “Give them headaches too! ”
“If they don’t give their husbands the love they need,
They will begin to look elsewhere.”

“That will fragment their families quickly!”
“Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching
Their children the real meaning of Christmas.”
“Give them an Easter bunny so they won’t talk about
His resurrection and power over sin and death.”
“Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.”
“Have them return from their recreation exhausted.”
“Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on
God’s creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting
Events, plays, concerts, and movies instead.”

    “Keep them busy, busy, busy!”
“And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve
Them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with
    Troubled consciences.”
“Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have
“Soon they will be working in their own strength,
Sacrificing their health and family for the good of
    The cause.”
    “It will work!”
    “It will work!”

    It was quite a plan!
The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing
Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed,
    Going here and there.
Having little time for their God or their families.
Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus
    To change lives.
I guess the question is, has the devil been successful
    In his schemes?
    You be the judge!!!!!
    Does “BUSY” mean:
    B -eing U-nder S-atan’s Y-oke?
Please pass this on, if you aren’t too BUSY !

  20. Wow Needles these examples will certainly intoxicate our minds and lives. Reminds me of Luke 8:14…”The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.”
Thank you for taking time to bring this to us and to our attention.
