Jesus said:

Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.

Give us today the food we need,
and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9… NLT

  1. Interesting that God gave us specific instruction, on how to pray, isn’t it? Read with me verses 7&8, in Matthew 6: “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!” (NLT)

  2. Yes, it is Needles. He knows what to bring our focus to. And it is comforting to know that we have a prayer to pray that is His perfect will and His words and heart.

  3. I have heard different takes on the Lord’s Prayer. For example, the phrase, THY WILL BE DONE IN EARTH….taking the words “in earth” not only to mean that God’s will to be done on planet Earth but also in our Earthen vessels…in these earthen vessels our temples, our bodies…..may God’s will be done within us.

  4. I love this prayer. I love that God gives us the food or substance for the day we are to face. As we arise with HIM he already knows the day ahead of us and gives us substance to strengthen us for the day. What a precious Savior. Today I was reading this site and was so sad about hurting people and situations around me as I sat in my rocker and suddenly a friend calls me yelling with excitement. “Get moving it is almost Christmas, bring Jesus into your house today. Show the world JESUS lives there.” I jumped out of the rocker and my whole day was changed – From tears to jubilation because my Savior lives.

I love the part, “Rescue us from the Evil One”. My goodness we know the evil one wants to kill, steal, and destroy. So don’t sit, lie, or do nothing, take action and call out to the Father, RESCUE US FROM THE EVIL ONE FATHER! He hears!
    Praise God, He hears!

  5. I am always amazed when I remind myself of what God told me to call him. Father!

God wants us to address Him as Father and to know Him in a close, personal way. He wants to have a very specific kind lof relationship with us.

And, then He makes known to us the mighty power He has on our behalf. A food provider, a provision provider. Power to deliver us from evil! Now that’s talking, folks….

  6. Psalm 103:13-14, Message. “As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him. He knows us inside and out, keeps in mind that we’re made of mud.

You are right, MG, may God’s Will be done in our earthen vessels. They sure need some insurance against the storms of life being build out of mud.

  7. I love this prayer. I have recited this prayer for as long as I can remember. One of the Pastors at the Happy Home revival this summer preached a sermon on this prayer. He broke it down in the 6 words that started with F. I thought it was cool, how he had taken this prayer and broken in down. It helped me to see it in a different way.

“Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.” = 1. FATHER

“May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven. ” = 2. FUTURE

“Give us today the food we need, = 3. FOOD

and forgiven us our sins, as we have forgiven those
who sin against us.” = 4. FORGIVENESS

And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us
from the evil one.” = 5. FREEDOM

The whole prayer = 6. FOREVER

So the next time you recite this prayer, think of the 6 words that start with F…. Father, Future, Food, Forgiveness, Freedom and FOREVER..

  8. Oh yes Sara, I think we should pray this daily and definately get our daily supply. I just thought it was interesting how that preacher took this awesome prayer and broke I down.

  9. This prayer grows larger than life when prayed and obeyed. It seems forgiveness is the door to the heart.

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins”
    (Matthew 6:14–15, NIV)
