Take a Test on Compassion

I stumbled upon an interesting book that taught me how to take a test on my compassion by taking my PULSE! Thought you might like to try it!
Frank Rogers Jr. “Practicing Compassion” Take your PULSE!

“P – Paying attention. Cultivate a nonjudgmental, nonreactive awareness of whatever agitation is present within you.

U – Understanding empathically. Listen for and be moved by the suffering hidden within the cry of this agitation – the fear, longing, or aching wound in need of tending.

L – Loving with connection. As you are moved by the suffering within you, extend tender care toward the need or wound that presents itself.

S –Sensing the sacredness. Recognize and savor the expanse of compassion that holds and heals every suffering within you.

E – Embodying new life. Notice the gifts and qualities of restored humanity that are being birthed within you.

In taking our PULSE, we not only relax the reactivities, repulsions, fears, and drives that distort our natural humanity but also tend to the wounds and needs hidden within them. In so doing, we are restored to ourselves – selves that are naturally compassionate.”

As I completed my test, I thought my family of fur babies, our doggies, are the perfect example of what compassion should be! And, how I treat them might be a even better test for me. Look at the wisdom of my thoughts; Proverbs 12:10 ICB, “A good man takes care of his animals. But even the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.”

Book Thoughts

Philip Yancey has written a new book, “Vanishing Grace.” One of his faithful followers writes, “…provocative, thoughtful book exploring thorny issues within our faith and church.” Philip, “tackles the diminishing popularity of Christianity in postmodern America over the past several decades and suggest ways believers can cut through today’s rampant cynicism to proclaim the gospel in word-much more important deed.”

I am reading very slowly with heart wide open as I am on a journey to follow St. Frances’s advice, “preach at all times and when necessary use words.” As I read, search and pray I find that I am not alone in looking to understand church. I am bicycling in tandem with Yancey that we are experiencing an awakening grace. I am thinking grace will awaken when our deeds are seen and people begin to rejoice in glorifying Our Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) I can just hear chorus of voice in unison singing a prayer, “Our Father Which art in Heaven…”

I do so desire Heavenly Father’s will be done on earth as in heaven.  I would like to hear your thoughts on the new today’s church that you are walking out daily.

Review of sermon notes by Rena Oynes

Sunday evening I had the wonderful privilege of hearing Dr. Fred Wolfe do a revival service at Jubliee Baptist, Dalphne, Al on the topic – Ministry to the Brokenhearted.  It was a powerful and timely message to so all who are brokenhearted.

 Right away he said:

1.  Jesus understands and feels your broken heart.

2.  Jesus is present today to heal the broken hearted.

3.  He invites the broken hearted to come to Him.

He read John 11: 1-7 telling the story of The Death of Lazarus.

Also; MATTHEW 11:28-

Jesus can do the following:

1.  Heal a heart broken by grief (grief is not a sin) by prayer and the Word of God.

2.  Heal broken hearted of guilt.  We need to confess, accept responsibility, get honest about our part

3.  Heal a heart broken by rejection.  This is when someone who is important in your life rejects you.  They have turned you off.  (Rejection is a root, anger is the fruit.  If you suppress the anger you get depression).

4.  Heal heart broken by abuse.

To get healed, you need to:

1.  Come in Faith

2. Come with an obedient heart

3.  We have to forgive whatever or whoever broke our heart.

It is hard to forgive.  The pain is real that is why it is so hard.

Why should we forgive?  God told us to forgive.

You have to go over your emotions to be healed.

If you choose to forgive God will heal your broken heartedness.

Forgiveness does not mean approval.  The action was/is wrong and always will be wrong.  Remember God forgave us of our sins and he never approved of any of them.

Three Ways to Forgive

1.  Cancel the debt.

2.  Cut the cord.  (If you don’t cut the cord you will have a rope around your neck and a rope around the person’s neck which links you together and you drag him/her around with you wherever you go.)

3.  Let them out of the cage.  (We need to let them out of the cage for good, instead of taking them out of the cage and beating them up and then putting them back in the cage.)

Remember in Colossians 2:14 NLT He canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross.

Therefore we should do the following.  Let them out of the cage and throw the cage away.

Remember forgiveness is a lifestyle.  Forgiveness is not an emotion it is a choice that is why it is hard.

Dr. Wolfe then led us in prayer of forgiveness for anyone we needed to forgive letting them out of the cage and throwing away the cage.

What a power teaching we need to implement in our lives.

Karen Langford Brown ‘s Story

I have read and reread your book, “The Doll Within Me,” for several weeks, and asked God to send me His message for me to write. You see, I have to wait on the Lord and not try to go ahead of Him. 🙂 The ego likes to suppose things that aren’t necessarily so. I have always loved that Dr Dyer described the ego as “Edging God Out,” so I try to go slow and easy before proceeding.

Very, very surprised at the writing that came after much contemplation. Hope you enjoy.

Love & Blessings,

Twin meaning: one of two offspring born at the same birth. A counterpart.

When I was young and there was no money
for frivolous things such as a doll
Actual needs were so much greater
as I look back and do recall.
But then I was but a little girl
wishing for just a Barbie doll
Not understanding or realizing that
my wish was Oh, so small!

God has brought me to a time in life
where He showed me that within
He had created a beautiful doll
that was actually my twin!
He said that when I was born
her spirit was with me
She would abide with me forever
and one day I would see…

The beautiful doll that is my spirit
was always there to comfort me
Because she was sent from Heaven
to always help me be
All that He created and
that He would have me be…
Has always been in His Hands
and I am really three!

gives birth to spirit.” John 3:6 NIV

Earth Gospel

This (see writing below, Hamilton) brings to bear; thoughts of our prayers when others, or ourselves, are aged, sick, dying. When Nations are at war. When a little child has cancer or other illness. When so many unknowns lurk around us each day, how does one pray, think and act?:
Rough up my “conventional values”
with the wildness of your love and creativity.
Help me to let go
of my need to predict and control
and let me enter
the unmapped regions
of your grace.- Sam Hamilton-PooreEarth Gospel
