I wish you Love…from” The Power of Attitude”

by Mac Anderson August 1992. Derrick Redmond from Great Britain was covered to win the 400-meter race during the summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. But as he powered around the backstretch his hamstring snapped. Derrick tried desperately to finish the race, but he still had half the distance to go. Because he could’t walk, he began to hop. One step-a grimace, Two steps-a yell.

Wrapped in Saran Wrap

The World is moving around you and you find yourself wrapped in Saran Wrap. If you breathe you can see your own condensation, dripping back on your head, chest and feet. You become soggy, damp and distressed.
Why one might ask? Maybe stymied in old ideas and ways that were soggy from the beginning. Or it may connote and or denote laziness and apathy. Neither laziness or apathy would be worthy in the ‘Book of Life’. If you are finding yourself wrapped and struggling to enjoy the breath of life with vitality and enthusiasm, check out some guidelines for eye popping change.

Sicko- Documentary

“SiCKO (2007) is an Academy Award nominated documentary film by American filmmaker Michael Moore that investigates the American health care system, focusing on its for-profit health insurance and pharmaceutical industry.”

“Michael Moore sets his sights on the plight of the uninsured in this eye-opening documentary. In the world’s richest country, 45 million people have no insurance. While HMOs grow in size and wealth. Moore also explores the widespread use of antidepressants and their possible link to violent behavior. With his trademark humor and confrontational style, Moore asks the difficult questions to get to the truth behind today’s health care.” quote from the move cover.

I had a chance to watch this documentary recently. I believe it opens a great door for dialogue on an issue, health care, that is so vitally important to so many Americans and this presidential election.

Do you or anyone you know have a ‘story’ where medical insurance or lack of insurance has affected getting proper health care? Do you know of anyone with a story of lack of medications because of health insurance?

Book Review

After putting up a bulletin board in our (elementary) school library for Black History Month I was prompted to read one of our newly purchased biographies on Martin Luther King, Jr. The book is entitled “M.L.K. Journey of a King” and was written by Tonya Bolden who has received numerous awards for her more than twenty books for children and adults. Under the author’s note she describes this book as her “soul’s journey to see, to feel the man…who gave thirteen years of his life marching, preaching, praying for a righteous America. All the while-a bull’s eye on his back.”

I was stirred as I learned of his rich spiritual heritage and personal faith that prepared him to play such a key leadership role in the civil rights movement of his time. The book also shows how this same faith gave him the courage and self sacrifice to persevere through the dangerous and often discouraging road that he traveled to make strides toward his dream of the “beloved community”. Bolden outlines his journey from school days to the pulpit and into the crucible that was to be his life’s work; striving for a society with racial harmony and equal opportunity for all of its citizens.

Are you stumped?

Lord here I am! Can’t you see me! Look I’m here, can’t you see me? I’m looking at you! Help Lord, I need your help, and NOW!!!!!!!! This is what I heard a student proclaim.

He had apparently read a book but forgot what it said in regard to the question he was faced with this day! Like some of our articles on the dailylily, he had a blank slat. He read well, thought well, and usually had all the answers. Everyone looked to him to have the right answer, but today he was stumped.

He begged for the answer, but no help. I told him to seek advice from another student, but he said the instructions said the answer had to come from your thoughts and that no ones thoughts were like his thoughts.

Do you believe in angels?

Do you believe in angels? I do!
Cimg0735-4

Angels are everywhere all the time, 24/7. Abraham believed in angels, three came to visit him as house guest. Jacob sure believed in angels, he wrested with one all night long. He was touched by an angel. The angel gave Jacob a heavy blow on the thigh and he limped forever after that.
Daniel while having an overnight stay with the lions trembled when he saw the Lord’s angel appear with him. John, on the Isle of Patmos had such a dramatic experience seeing an angel, that he fell down as though he were dead.

The Art of Simplicity

The Art of Simplicity can turn one’s life around for the greater gain.
Peace for ‘turmoil of lack’
Joy for a ‘scattered mind
Love for ‘confused and afraid’
Hope for ‘sad’
Light for ‘darkness’
I have for ‘I have not’
Courage for ‘fear’
‘Simplicity of Life’ to me is like black-strap molasses flavoring and coloring my cookies of choice.
