Alice Adventures in Wonderland-Chapter X

Alice continues her adventure with the Gryphon and the melancholy Mock Turtle who relives memories of his past by telling stories. (Is this a way to avoid living in the present or thinking about the future?) This time his story is about a seashore dance called the Lobster Quadrille. He asks the Gryphon to help him show Alice the dance. The Mock Turtle does the singing in a slow, rhythmic voice. It is a sort of ballad about jellyfish, lobsters, seals, snails, whiting, porpoise and turtles and their participation in the dance by the seashore. Alice thanks him for the song and is particularly interested in hearing about the whiting. After a detailed explanation, they ask Alice to share her adventures. She begins by telling them what has happened to her since this morning, but manages to get things rather mixed up because her mind is still filled with the Lobster Quadrille. (There may be a lesson here in listening, remembering if your mind is unfocused on the agenda at hand).

W.W.J.D.

W.W.J.D.1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then He broke it in pieces and said, “THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH IS GIVEN FOR YOU. DO THIS TO REMEMBER ME.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “THIS CU IS HE NEW COVENANT BETWEEN GOD AND HIS PEOPLE-AN AGREEMENT CONFIRMED WITH MY BLOOD.DO THIS TO REMEMBER ME AS OFTEN AS YOU DRINK IT.” 26 For every time you eat this bread ad drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until He comes again.”

Samaritan Purse volunteers

We have a dream to touch children of every nationality for Christmas, 2009 through the Samaritan Purse/Operation Christmas Box. It will take many hands to pull this off. We need people to wrap shoeboxes with Christmas Paper. We need people to go out and buy items for girls and boys 2-4 year olds, 5-9 year olds, and 10-14 year olds. Go on line to check the list of things you could buy and tuck in each box, watch the video and be inspired. You can give money directly on the Samaritan Purse site to fund the box project coming from CCI. It takes $7 a box to mail to a child somewhere in the world. What a wonderful thing to touch a child who probably would get nothing at Christmas. Write a note and tuck inside and become a pen pal to someone who is touched by your gift. Become involved. Join us at Christ Church Int’l/thedailyliies in being a small part in this massive outreach by the Samaritan’s Purse.

Chapter IX Book Review on Alice

In this next adventure Alice meets up with Duchess again who greets her fondly. Alice thinks perhaps the pepper was the cause of her hot temperment when they first met in the Duchess’ kitchen. As they stroll along together conversing, Alice discovers that the duchess finds a moral in everything that is said. The duchess thinks so highly of her words and morals that she leaves them all to Alice as a present. (Though many of her morals seem nonsensical, in theory I find a great deal of truth to this as shouldn’t our words should bring life to those we present them to?).
Suddenly the queen appears and gives the duchess an ultimatum to leave or have her head cut off. She chooses to leave and the Queen tells Alice they should get on with the game of croquet. However the Queen quarrels constantly and demands so many heads to be cut off that soon there’s no one left to play the game but the Queen, the King and Alice. That’s when the Queen tells Alice that she must find the Mock Turtle and listen to his history.
