Happy Thanksgiving, Blessings and Honor

I am so thankful for all of you. I am thankful, blessed, honored and humbled by our soldiers.

Come as You Are

We all get invitations to certain events or activities. I got this invitation in the mail for a dinner party. It stated to ” come as you are ” on the invitation. As I arrived, I wasn’t sure it was the right place. I shook my head in disbelief. This couldn’t be the right place. After all, I couldn’t possibly be welcomed here. I had been given an invitation several times, by several different people, ( thought it was Amway or something), but I had finally decided to see what this place was all about. But, this just couldn’t be the right place. I glanced down at the invitation in my hand. I scanned past the words, “COME AS YOU ARE. NO JACKET REQUIRED.” I was in the right location.

Mother’s Needlework in my attic

A piece of patchwork from my childhood heart lies dormant in my attic to this very day. The design and hue of colors of my heart are wrapped well in my Mother’s tattered and torn quilt she hand-made for warmth, out of necessity for her family of a dozen.

The Holidays awaken the inactive emotions showing like a candelabra with dark and light. I have come to see, through each new holiday pictures of children’s faces in each little design of my Mother’s hand-sewn quilts.

Rituals and heirlooms invite me to embrace and celebrate the good of family while burying the pain of rips and tears. The value of an old hand-sewn quilt, like my patchwork heart, has turned into a golden antique hue making a mark of an old aristocrat. When I feast my eyes upon the delightful patches and touch with care these heirloom with my very own hands, I remember my better self, and it gives me noble thoughts that hopefully will endure a nobleness for her ‘now’ generations.

My Prayer for The Lord

Many have prayed some form of the Lord’s prayer in their daily devotions and I feel lead to share my daily prayer with the Lilies in hopes of blessing you.

OUR FATHER; Yes! You are my Father. I was in Your mind before the beginning of time that I should come forth upon the earth in this era. You are the husbandman that sows the seeds of life, the Father of all life. Jesus, You are the eternal, everlasting Father, My Savior, My Brother, My Friend, My King, My Husband, the Creator of me and You are my FATHER! You are the Father of all things bright and beautiful, Who out of the virtues of compassion, love, and mercy has made all things for Your own pleasure. And You have included me in Your eternal plan and purpose. You are the Father of all Source. You are the Father of Jesus and You live eternally, always have, and do so now and will forever be…My Father!

A Needle in Time

Please enjoy the quilt my grandmother, Alice Furlough, made for me. I remember a story she told me about my cousin, Frankie. When Frankie was just a little boy, he wanted to quilt, like her. She told me that she fixed him a place near her, and a needle with thread, and handed it to him. The key was….he would sit there and quilt as long as she would, but she would chuckle when she told me that she didn’t tie a knot in the end of his thread. My cousin, Frankie made me the beautiful quilt rack you see in the picture. I love this little story, because the quilt, now sits in my home, on the quilt rack that Frankie made for me.

Why I don’t like Cheese?

My seven year old son, Luke, wrote this story for school and wanted to share his story with us. Double click on the picture to read Luke’s story. Hope you still like cheese after reading his fantasy story. Or, maybe it’s a mystery! Don’t you just love his art work as well. I am a proud Mom.

Artist of the Needle

This story is dedicated to my mother and all those who are artist of the needle. We so enjoy your wonderful talent and applaud you.

Hettie Ruby grew up in the lean years of this country, right after the Great Depression.
When she was little, her mother dressed her in long brown dresses, brown stockings, and a bonnet. She hated her look so much that as soon as she lost sight of home, she’d roll down the stockings and get rid of the bonnet.

She was a child laborer at the age of six. She pulled cotton all day long. She had six other brothers and sisters and they would pick along side of her. Poor Hettie Ruby.

2008 Olympics in China

I heard today that the organizers for the 2008 Olympics in China have released their list of items banned from the Olympic village where the athletes will stay.

Take a guess what item among others has been prohibited: You guessed it right, Bibles!

The Catholic News Agency reports that the committee behind the Beijing games cited “security reasons” for the ban.

Athletes are also prohibited from bearing any kind of religious symbol at Olympic facilities.
